soooo had it with the Rezound!!!

Got to settings. --> Wireless and networks --> Mobile Networks --> network mode. Check that setting to make sure it didn't reset when you did your OTA update. Since you have no 4G in your area, just use CDMA only.

Sent from HTC Rezound using Tapatalk.

It was set to CDMA/LTE. Now set to CDMA only. Fingers crossed! Wonder if that was part of the problem with my TBolt. Interesting thought.

So without that set to include LTE how will I know when I have 4G?

One thing to keep in mind, for future cell phone purchases, is to look at the return/exchange period. Verizon allows 14 days. I bought my Rezound from Costco for $50 and have a 90 day return period. I had to exchange the Rezound twice and both times got a new retail box replacement.

Some third party may have an additional etf above Verizon's etf typcically applying to the 1st 180 days, but Costco does not have this.

Menu>Personalize>Widgets>Browse all HTC widgets>Auto-sync

I believe it is near the end, around 74/78 or so.

OMG! I never knew this whole section was on my phone! Way cool! Will have to play in there. Thanks!

I understand your frustration, Deb. I am a Rezound owner and although I think this device is superb, I am disappointed by the battery life. I have fiddled and explored to find apps that are updating unnecessarily, or using power in other ways I wasn't previously aware of. I am using Juice Defender, which also requires some understanding but does help the battery life. For the most part the battery issues are being managed, but the battery should not require such diligence by the user. Based on the tone of your post, I think you might be happier with a different device. If your battery issues don't resolve, then maybe the Razr Maxx is the best option for you right now. If you don't need 4G, then I can heartily recommend the Droid Incredible 2. My wife has owned it for months, and I am very impressed by it's performance and battery life.

Didn't you say you don't have 4G service in your area? I assumed that since you can only obtain a 3G signal, that leaving the phone in "CDMA/LTE" mode would cause the phone to constantly try to connect to 4G, thus draining more battery. By staying in CDMA-only the phone quits trying to find a 4G (LTE) signal, which shouldn't be an issue since you said you have no good 4G service anyway.

Every month or so, you can turn your setting back to "CDMA/LTE" mode for 10 minutes to see if you can grab a 4G signal. Also, you can check somewhere on the verizonwireless website to see if the LTE network is available in your area (you can type in a specific address to see if it is available). Until that happens, just keep the phone in CDMA-only mode.

Same thing with the WiFi. Are you leaving the phone's WiFi radio on when you leave the house? If so, the phone is constantly searching for a wireless router to connect to when you move away from your home's connection. And since there are a lot of wireless routers out there, as you walk the dogs or drive around town, the phone will be constantly exposed to different routers and try to read the output from them, which takes battery power.

What's it called?

The stock HTC Widget that allows you to turn on and off background sync is called "Auto-Sync".

To add it to your home screen, go to the "Personalize" tab on the lower right of any home screen. Then choose the "Add to Home" tab at the bottom. Choose "Wiget" and then "Browse all HTC Widgets". Then look for a small widget that is called "Auto-Sync". It is a little while icon with a picture of a phone with two arrows.

I don't have 4G here yet and the phone's *now* set to CDMA only. They did the tower work here a few weeks ago and newspaper article said it would give us service the following week. They must have lied cuz it's not here yet.

Ok.

Same thing with the WiFi. Are you leaving the phone's WiFi radio on when you leave the house? >>>snipppp<<<
Ok, will have a look at that, too -- wasn't understanding that right. Guess I'll have to either give up using my network or remind myself to turn off the wi-fi when I leave the house.

Thank you all. I didn't buy the Rezound because it was 4G capable, I bought it 'cuz I like the phone for other reasons. Will see how things go with the changes I've made. A good test will be at work cuz that's a *huge* battery drain spot.

It's a great phone and that's why I really *don't want* to give it up, would rather give it another chance after all the tweaking I've done following suggestions here. If all of this doesn't make a really huge difference then I'll be looking at other phones. I don't need 4G yet because it's not here but it's *supposed* to be coming soon and would be nice if I was already 4G capable when that time comes.

I totally agree that one should not have to be a phone expert or have experts like those here in order to learn and find ways to help battery life. No wonder VZW (don't know about other carriers and their phones) get so many complaints and returns. I would bet there are more people who don't know about places like these boards to go to get this kind of help. I'm so grateful to be one of those that does :) and the people that are here willing to help.

I'll let ya all know in the morning how the battery does tonight at work. Recent new rules there, can't have your phone accessible to you but you can use it on breaks. We'll see how much battery I have on my first break.

Didn't read through the whole thread but if already haven't, go to settings then data, click through all the apps one at a time that you don't need to connect throughout the day and turn them off. Example: words with friends, you don't need it to connect and tell you when a move you made when you can just check it yourself. Do so for every game really.

Update: I'm half way through my shift and still have a full battery! You people that helped me find and make adjustments are awesome! At least for now I'm back to luvin' my Rezound!

Are any of you telling Verizon any of this? They don't read these boards, and probably barely read the boards posted on their own site. I have sent them two emails complaining about the OTA. Of course the first reply was have the phone and battery checked. My reply was its not my phone it's everyone's phone, but each time I come back to the boards and urge people to complain I get the same canned response, if it was that big a deal wed just root. So why are there threads like this? Over 50 posts of this sucks but no one willing to stand up, just sit back and take it. I know it's not like they're going to see a complaint or two and suddenly realize that 'hey we may have messed up' but if we say nothing, more if more people say nothing it's like it never happened to them. Go to contact Verizon and leave an email, go to their forum boards and post a comment,b go to the market and leave a review of that pos vla. I haven't checked for this post but the other day it had 103 reviews, and 7 were 5 star? 103. More people than that have read this thread. You can compliant about your position in life or you can attempt to change it, doing nothing will ensure one thing though it will not improve.

Deb, it sounds like you are having a better day today with your phone than yesterday. If you find you have more problems, a factory reset will work.

I used to have a Droid X and there is a second Droid X in my house. After the Gingerbread update, I had nothing but troubles with my phone until I got my Rezound, all because I was really stubborn and did not want to do the factory reset.

The other Droid X was forced to do a factory reset before installing Gingerbread and that phone never had a flipping problem after the GB update. I should have done a factory reset on my X as soon as I got the GB update (where the problems started) and start from scratch, but I was put off by the eight hours it would have taken to customize my phone. Instead, I lived in misery for eight months in a love/hate relationship with my X.

My first Rezound was defective (could not control call volume unless I was on bluetooth) so I was sent a brand new replacement. I downloaded the OTA on a fresh slate and I have not had one problem with the Rezound. I have all my apps back and no special settings.

So ... really long story short, if the phone is screwed up after an update, just do the factory reset. It might cost you eight hours, but it will save your sanity! :)

The Verizon forum is run by moderators and service reps that toss out scripts as solutions. If you check, the majority of those threads have no solution. If they do, it's a vague promise that Verizon will eventually look into it.
We have people that file complaints to the Better Business Bureau and the FCC. Nothing is changing. As long as Verizon provides a subsidy to the phone, they can install what they wish, especially since Android is open sourced. This is why you don't see much of this riff raff on iPhones and Windows phones.
I'm all for getting our point across, but Verizon is raking in the money and we're still buying phones at the end of the day. So as far as they see, whatever they're doing works.

Yes, I am thank you. Got home and still had a full charge after about a total of 10 hours. Amazing! What a huge difference! I can go back to loving my Rezound :) and got my sanity back. Looking forward to putting some of my apps back on that I'd removed and seeing how that goes.

Good deal, Deb! So glad things are working out again. Phone frustration not fun!! :D

It must be because in my mind it seems like they would have had enough of all the complaints, the sending out of replacement phones & batteries etc and doooooo something about this thus saving them money. They could offer folks a choice of no additional apps, maybe a gamer phone w/game apps, a business phone w/biz apps, a sports version w/sports stuff and that way people get more of what they MIGHT even use, LOL! They'd do away w/the expense of replacement this and thats and wind up with happier customers. But that's just me.

Sanity is good (sometimes)... A phone that works is even better. Glad you're loving the 'Zound again. :D
