soooo had it with the Rezound!!!

I noticed some battery issues after the update myself. Here are some things I have noticed:

1. Some of my settings were reset to default settings - especially my sync settings. I went back and set them to either sync manually or at least increased the time between syncs - the vcast media manager in particular appeared to be draining my battery - this stopped when I turned off auto syncing for this particular service. I recommend going to Settings > Accounts and Sync and checking your settings for all of these services. The only one I personally care about is the google services sync.

2. I had downloaded some wallpapers from this website recently. There was another forum post somewhere where someone mentioned that corrupted files on the SD storage card could cause the media manager to work overtime, so I deleted the new files. Not sure if this was what was going on with my phone, but my battery was heating up before, and now it's back to normal.

3. I found a small app to easily toggle 4g on and off. It's helped a lot to only turn it on when I want to surf the net or download something. I similarly turn off bluetooth, gps, wifi, etc., when I'm not using them.

Not sure if any of the above is helpful. I'm still experimenting with my phone to try and get better battery life. Called a verizon tech who was very courteous but appeared to have no clue about any of these issues or how to help other than do a factory reset. Anyway, good luck.

The Rezound is one of the best all-around phones out there today.

I loved this phone for a week so I would like to keep it if I can get this battery drain thing resolved.

The OTA screwed up my battery life. With no other changes, it dropped to half day. I tried the VLA download trick and that seemed to help, but not much.
As did I, but I'm not sure I did it right. I did uninstall the update today or whatever it is they call it but the original is still in there.

Finally did a factory reset (both kinds). That's got me back to pretty good battery life. (factory reset instructions: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ething-new-about-factory-resets-new-post.html). I don't know if it completely fixed the problem or not, but I would try that before going back to Big Red, if you like the phone.
I'm considering a factory reset, thanks for the link but I didn't know there were TWO of them, geez!

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn off sync for this. It's set for once a day but no manual sync selection that I can see. What am I missing? I really don't need this, is there a way to uninstall it? I just need my contacts backed up 1x day via the VZW backup asst.

I have just 3 or 4 downloaded but none in use. I haven't switched to any wallpaper from the default that came on the Rezound. I was seeing constantly that MM was failing now today it finally I think for the first time was successful and I have no idea what happened to go from total failure every day to successful today. I didn't do anything that I'm aware of except start uninstalling some apps.

I don't have 4G in my area yet so it either shows 3G, 1 or a little X randomly.

Anyway, good luck.
Thanks :) . It's totally unacceptable to charge your phone fully, put it in your pocket, take your dogs for a half-hour walk and come back to half a battery in my opinion and that's happened several times. I also noticed my phone was warm but now since I started uninstalling apps it seems cooler. Although, outside it's under 10 degrees and my phone was in an outside breast pocket so maybe the weather helped keep it cool?

In response to your other post on the other forum, which is having problems letting me post.

I don't think so. Your OTA update is installed as your current operating system. I don't think a factory reset rewinds to a previous operating system. (I just did an OTA update on my Razr yesterday before I turned it over to my GF. I did the OTA update and then factory reset it and the same operating system remained. It did not roll back to the original operating system the Razr had at launch last November.)

The factory reset will rid the phone of any apps or settings you did that might be causing the battery drain issues. It wipes the slate clean. Then begin installing your apps slowly, day by day and see if the battery life drops after installing any particular app.

Under other circumstances, I'd fully agree. Your correct about not being able to roll back on the OS but in the recent Rezound OTA. What happened is that an unannounced app. that was not ready for release was snuck in. It appears to be a buggy mess that's not working right, It's said to be incompatible w/ the Rez but it's running. Worst part is it's granted itself the top battery killing permissions on any android phone. Updating the app. in the market, disables it in running services after opening it on restart. But it still is openly running in the background and cannot be fully disabled from booting up b/c it's permissed to start upon system boot or fast boot.

The Rezound is one of the best all-around phones out there today. Having said that, HTC is known for poor battery life. My Dinc was on a charger all the time. When I bought the Rezound, I just bought the extended battery at the same time (it was on sale). I was really surprised to get a day day and a half - right out of the box - of battery life (not rooted, 3G only, lots of apps downloaded, and medium use).

The OTA screwed up my battery life. With no other changes, it dropped to half day. I tried the VLA download trick and that seemed to help, but not much. Finally did a factory reset (both kinds). Interesting because I'm using the original DINC with the stock battery and I can easily get a day and a half or more in between charges. When I had the seidio 1750 battery I could go longer. But that battery died on me after about a year and a half so now I'm back to the stock battery. I think usage and phone setup have a lot to do with battery life. I'm on wifi most of the time, I think that helps alot. But I always leave GPS on, bluetooth on, wifi on, mobile on. If you are in a iffy area for mobile signal it will drain your battery really fast. I notice when I go to my sister's house my phone is always switching 3G/1X and the battery drains like crazy.

I would first try getting it replaced. I agree you with you on getting a refurbished unit, however if it solves your problem, who cares! Talk to Verizon, sometimes if you push hard enough you may be able to get them to let you get a completely different phone, tone down the anger though.lol
All 4g smartphones have battery issues, except for maybe the new maxx. I strongly suggest a extended battery or pocket charger for any phone.
If all the above fails, just sell it on Ebay or craigslist and find something that will work for you. Hope things work out for you. :)

Unfortunately, not if your stock. So your stuck w/ it. Which shows you clearly why so many are rooting these days. Unless, you unlock, root and run a debloating tool like Scroslers CleanROM. His only requires temp root, to run once. It's as simple as it gets. So your highly unlikely to run into any issues like the dreaded "bricking"that scares so many when their green.

FYI, if you do a factory reset, make sure you use the hboot method. Not just a simple reset from settings.

I had a issue with my first rezound after the ota I noticed my data being slow when it should have been fast because I had full signal to fix it I had to restart the phone and data speed was normal after that. But I recently discovered dead pixels in the screen and was dealing with the pink instead of red touch buttons. So verizon store ordered me a like new certified warranty replacement. I have had the replacement for a couple weeks now with no major issues. And the touch buttons are red when lit up now which is great. And on the weekends I still get 2 days of light to moderate use with some battery left on sunday nights as for work days I get a full day out of it I surf the web and youtube on my breaks with some occasional netflix. So Deb I would advise getting a warranty replacement it is most likely your particular phone I have had no difference in battery life between phones and the replacement doesn't have the issues of the first one both have had great battery life on 3g. As you know 4g sucks down the juice so I keep mine on 3g only most of the time.

If you use k9, kaiten or any other market mail app you need to delete your stock mail accounts or set them up not to sync. I think by default they auto sync and battery is set to 'performance.' Performance auto syncs your accounts.

I'm at this point going to see what happens after uninstalling a number of apps, turning down the screen brightness, turning off some auto-syncing, and whatever else I spent my morning doing (can't remember everything right now).

I did notice battery life is worse at work, but don't know why. We'll see what happens tonight with all the stuff I've done today.

I hope I find I can put back on at least some of the apps I'm currently doing without but I'll give it a day or two and see how it goes first.

Thank you to everyone who replied and mostly to those who gave me ideas to try and links to follow should I need them - you people are great!

I did find one default mail app that I've stopped from syncing in Settings --> Accounts --> Sync. I had already turned off syncing GMail since it syncs anyway with the Google sync. How freaking redundant *that* was! Uninstalled K9 for now but that's one I really hope to be able to use again soon.

I live and work in an area that often doesn't get great reception (and travel through areas with no coverage at all) so you are right, my phone is always trying to get a better signal - a real battery killer. That's why I bot the extended battery when I bot the 'Zound. (Like Deb, I thought the extra size would be awful but I would just live with it - to my surprise, I like the extra bulk & weight.)

Sounds like you need an app to turn 4G off (CDMA Only). By default 4G radios are turned on. If you're not in a 4G area and have 4G on the phone with continuously try to find a 4G signal at intervals. The thing is that when it searches for a 4G signal and doesn't find it the battery takes a hit.

If your removing apps anyway, you might try doing the reset. It maybe too late now, but there are a number of apps to back everything up first (you'll lose everything in a factory reset). As for email, I have 4 or 5 different accounts. I like to keep them separate so I know who's sending me stuff from where. I never could get K9 to work the way I wanted, so I always stuck with stock. My battery stats don't show much use for the email accounts even though the non-push ones are all set to sync pretty regularly - every 15 minutes...

Worth a try, didn't know it would keep searching if it's not available. Do you have any app suggestions for this? Since 4G is supposed to be coming, and I have 4G turned off, how then would I know when 4G is available to my phone here?

I have MyBackUpPro plus every now and then I just plug my phone in and copy to my desktop computer. I'll also check the GMail app and see if there's a way to turn off auto-sync.

You have your wireless and networks settings set to CDMA only, right? You don't have it set to to CDMA/LTE?

Got to settings. --> Wireless and networks --> Mobile Networks --> network mode. Check that setting to make sure it didn't reset when you did your OTA update. Since you have no 4G in your area, just use CDMA only.

Check the settings in your mail app (the stock one that came with Gingerbread and is your universal mail box) to see how often it syncs.

I gotta tell you I've had nothing but problems with the stock gingerbread universal mail app. It doesn't sync properly sometimes and at other times fails to connect. And it won't delete emails some of the time. My gf had the same problems with her droid X. That is why I do not use it.

I only use the specific mail apps like the Gmail and yahoo mail apps. I also do not add my yahoo or Facebook accounts to the phone's Accounts section in the settings. I will use the yahoo and facebook apps themselves, but I do not add those logins to my phone's Accounts. When I used to do that, the phone would always do background syncing and all kinds of unnecessary stuff in the background. I will use the facebook and yahoo apps when I specifically want to use then and not allow the phone to access those accounts when idle.

There is a stock HTC widget that allows you to turn on and off all background syncing. I love how easy it is to toggle it.
