SORELY disappointed with S22

I attended my nephew's graduation today at the university of Alabama, and this sorry overheating CPU and battery shut itself down as I wss trying to take photos and pictures. It cost me PRECIOUS moments that I cannot get back.

I am soooooo severely disappointed in this thing, and ir had soooo much potential too.

Also the finish is VERY fragile. I'm still waiting for my case to arrive? So I have utterly babied it. And merely sliding it out of my pocket with nothing but ONE quarter has caused scratches on the back and is rubbing the finish off the camera array.

Just 2 minutes of video will kick this battery up to 105+ degrees and the phone will shut down. Sooooo highly 😞 disappointed with this. I didn't want to but I think I'll have to to return it and go with either a Pixel 6 or dare I say? Iphone.

I will not be surprised if these S22 models start blowing up just like the note 7s did. And it does not take much at all to get em hot. At least it doesn't mine :(. Ughhh

Wasted, wasted potential with this phone. I will not use something that could potentially blow up with simple medium duty use.

So different than my experience with my S22. Maybe there is a defect with yours?

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you.

I appreciate how precious these moments are.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s²² Ultra 256Gb Exynos variant in the UK and haven't found that using the video feature shuts down the phone.

Unfortunately items like keys and coins can and will mark up the phone. Better to keep the phone in a pocket with nothing else in or use a phone sock or wrap it in a microfiber cloth or even use a trainer sock to keep it unmarked until the case comes or buy a skin.

So sorry you are having this experience. Very different for me as well with the S22U. I have taken lengthy zoomed in videos with other things running in the background and no heating up. So far, it has not heated up ever since I got it in late March. I haven't heard of any heat problems with the S22's (which doesn't mean they haven't happened). I would bet that yours is detective and I bet they would replace it with ease.

I was in Alabama last week as well for my Grandkids 2 birthday (twins). Wife used her S22 all day taking picture and vid with no issues what so ever. I was using my SLR digital cameras as well for those better shots because, lets face it a phone will never take better picture than a SLR pro camera. As for the cosmetics of your phone, With no case to protect it, well you know the rest.

Unfortunately, I imagine something very unusual is going on with your phone because you really don't see any of those issues among the users here. Could be hardware related? Could be a rogue app?

Shouldn't be a rogue app. Only things I use are chrome, the camera, my verizon. Have not installed any games or anything at all. I do have Disney+ bur I've yet to stream anything on it given the propensity for this thing to get hot. I do have a weather app from my local news station I use to keep up with weather, it gives me up to date information on conditions and temperatures in the background. But surely that shouldn't be stressing the CPU nor the battery to the point of doing this crap.

You seem to have a defective phone have you spoken to Verizon about getting a replacement.

My ultra has never heated up, no issues, great phone for me

Not yet. I will though. Bur I bet they won't do anything unless they can reproduce the issue for themselves in the store.

I'm guessing this is probably why I got such a "deal" on trade in. They are clearing out defective models.

Can you recreate it right now or at anytime by letting it record for same amount of time?

Were you recording at the highest resolution available? Is 8k available on S22? Because at highest resolution this is nothing new and has always been mentioned over the years.

"Galaxy phone stops recording videos after 10 minutes" https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...oubleshooting%2FTSG01001538%2F&token=2FM7_1Vq

"Smartphone video recording in 1080p, 4K, 8K: How much is too much?" https://www.digitalcitizen.life/recording-videos-smartphones/

"Not only that, but during the test, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra even warned me against shooting in 8K for more than 5 minutes to avoid overheating. And indeed, at the end of the 5 minutes of recording in 8K, the device was unpleasantly hot."

Other things that can cause your phone to over heat is having a very poor signal or no cell service. There are places I go with no cell service and I turn on airplane mode. Otherwise, your phone desperately tries to find a signal that doesn't exist and will get warm.

Sorry for your lost photo ops--that is indeed a disappointment. I know it's too late for now, but in the future, taking long videos is one of the first things to test with a new phone so you can return it promptly if there's a problem.

I've had no overheating problems with my S22 Ultra (Snapdragon). Trying to guess which apps if any might be at fault is difficult. Safe Mode prevents all your user-installed apps from running; does the problem happen in Safe Mode? If so, I'd suggest trying a factory reset and if it's still happening, you have defective hardware and should exchange the phone for a new one. Also, which firmware version do you have? Most users are not reporting overheating; this is nothing like the Note7, which was recalled within less than a month of its release. (When you say 105°, is that F or C? If F, that's not especially hot and should not come close to causing a shutdown.)

As for scratching, I've had my phone since February, with no case or screen protector, and it has no scratches anywhere. But I always keep it in an otherwise-empty pocket.

When you switched from your prior phone, did you transfer data? Or did you intsall all the apps and set them up fresh?

I find the risk of a rogue installation is a better choice than having to install everything and set it up fresh, but occassionaly transfering your data from your old phone can cause issues. Either way, I'd take a look at your battery stats in settings and see if anything is using an unusually high amount of juice. That's the most obivous tell-tale sign. If so, uninstakll and reinstall it.

I just have got home and its chilly up here today so I'm not sure I can simulate another scenario like that right now.

When it occurred down there, it still should not have done that because it was a very comfortable 70 degrees inside the auditorium. And I had power save mode on. I do not think it was in 8k mode, as I just went to pointing and recording and not tinkering with the camera settings. Only things I did was zoom in and out and pan around as the procession made its way in and everyone received their diplomas.

I transferred them over via Smart Switch.
