SORELY disappointed with S22

Other things that can cause your phone to over heat is having a very poor signal or no cell service. There are places I go with no cell service and I turn on airplane mode. Otherwise, your phone desperately tries to find a signal that doesn't exist and will get warm.

I was getting 3 to 4 bars of 5G service down there-- first time I've ever received 5G as I live in a rural area and Tuscaloosa is obviously one of the first places to get 5G service in Alabama due to the campus there. I didn't turn airplane mode on since i was gettinf good cellular signal, but I did turn both Bluetooth off and wifi off as I know those can make phones use more power/create heat.

I am saddened to hear that the camera didn't perform when you needed it most! How awful. If you feel like a Pixel or iPhone would be a better choice for you, go for it! Please keep us posted on what you decide!

Sorry for your lost photo ops--that is indeed a disappointment. I know it's too late for now, but in the future, taking long videos is one of the first things to test with a new phone so you can return it promptly if there's a problem.

I've had no overheating problems with my S22 Ultra (Snapdragon). Trying to guess which apps if any might be at fault is difficult. Safe Mode prevents all your user-installed apps from running; does the problem happen in Safe Mode? If so, I'd suggest trying a factory reset and if it's still happening, you have defective hardware and should exchange the phone for a new one. Also, which firmware version do you have? Most users are not reporting overheating; this is nothing like the Note7, which was recalled within less than a month of its release. (When you say 105°, is that F or C? If F, that's not especially hot and should not come close to causing a shutdown.)

As for scratching, I've had my phone since February, with no case or screen protector, and it has no scratches anywhere. But I always keep it in an otherwise-empty pocket.

I will try to run in safe mode later and see if anything is amiss there. I did just use rhe in-house device care battery diagnostic to check the health of my battery and it said "good".

It's the video that let me down the most. I took some still shots before the ceremony around campus and the football stadium, and in the basketball auditorium where the commencement was and it produced some fantastic still shots.

That video and battery though, arrrrgghhhh.

You probably would have gotten good WiFi coverage at a college. Most likely it would have been better to turn off cellular data and only keep WiFi on.

I'm sorry you have had such an experience. Both my S22Us have been and continue to be problem free. Now, my One+ 9 Pro...that got hot but the S22Us have been cool and fine.

Check under Battery in Settings to check the individual app usage of the battery. That's what I suggested earlier.

Facebook and camera look to be the only significant battery hogs. Though I've used Facebook in fragmented portions today. The camera I tried to record separate short videos of abour 2-5 minutes in length as the graduation ceremony proceeded but even with those short uses of video recording, it still ran me dangerously hot. When it kicked off, it reported a temp of 106 degrees.

Had time to do a test recording? Just let it run for 5 minutes... same setting (What resolution it set at) and see if you can feel it heating up?

Just recorded 10 minutes of my cat snoozing at my feet. Battery temp actually went down . But it is pretty cool in here right now and there isn't a lot of light to process like there was earlier.

I bet if I try to record something tomorrow in daylight and at 80 degrees air temp vs 53 right now, it will most likely overheat.

Facebook is notoriously a battery and resource hog, but this might be a bit high here. Try uninstalling and reinstalling it. I can't recall if it's a system app and we're unable to uninstall, if so go to Settings > Apps > Facebook > 3 dots in upper right corner and uninstall updates. Then you can update to the current version again in Play.

I don't use Verizon Cloud, but for 1 minute of use, that percentage seems high, too. Same suggestion as with the Facebook app.

You used the camera a lot and Chrome is always high on the battery list, so if it's an app causing problems I'd guess it's FB or Cloud.

It actually did let me flat out uninstall Facebook altogether, so I will try reinstalling it and see if that helps.

May consider switching to Samsung Internet as many people are saying Chrome is becoming resource hungry and Samsung Internet is a good alternative.

Hmm i uninatalled FB and my idle time battery is much better it seems. I bet FB was doing stuff in the background before I uninstalled it. It seems to take a lot longer to lose a percentage in idle /standby than it did before uninstalling FB.

You could also try saving a Facebook bookmark to your home screen. That's how I access Facebook, or there's also a Facebook Lite app version.

Domn has a point on the resolution keep testing on FHD+ also can monitor in safe mode

The Facebook app is poisonous to phones... it's one of the most resource intensive, nosey, background running monsters you can put on a phone. It's almost like it's designed to kill phones lol.

That's one thing I haven't heen able to figure out on tgis phone, how to get to change screen resolution. Other phones like my S9, s10, S20 were straight cut, but I can't seem to find the screen res settings on this one

Thanks for doing the test. Interesting result. With the other comments and not being so easily repeatable I would lean towards something running in the background causing it... still a glitch in a way cause you shouldn't have to check for running apps or something when you need to whip out your phone to take a video when you want. Bad timing for you and can understand your frustration.
