That isn't casual everyday wear. There is more to the story.

It is Gorilla Glass, not much more they can do to prevent scratches or protect the thing. Not like they are using cheap no name glass.

Mine looks perfect.

Where do you work? What are the surfaces line there? Do you have a case. How often do you actually use your phone?

Obviously the moral of the story here is get a case for your phone but it seems rather rude to make assumptions?

Ironically I still really like the G6, scratches and all. But this thread is disappointing at best. This could have been better if it was started as an "woops", I should have gotten a case post.

I am willing to bet your friend has a habit of tossing her phone into her purse...with her keys, make-up, and other items. Get a case and a tempered glass screen protector and she would not have any scratches.

It's not LG, it's carelessness.

Hah I actually don't have a habit of tossing my phone in my purse. I also have not had time to purchase a case but thanks for your wisdom.

Basically the type of finish that is on this phone can scratch easy. Same story as the 7 plus. For you to treat me like the "silly girl who doesn't know what a case is" is definitely not acceptable.

The surface that I work on is (not concrete) but not smooth either. Glossy Black is and always is going to be a try at your own risk situation.

However, the fact that I own the same phone as some commentors in this thread makes me ashamed to have this phone.

I'm over it lol. I'm trying to decide what case to get though.

I didn't quite realize how abrasive the surface I work on seems to be. Oh well.

I wonder if white would show these scratches. There is also the Dbrand option as well. I could definitely take suggestions

This is not true. Mine is just perfect after 3 weeks of use. Got ice platinum. Also I habitually put all my phones in a case along with screen protector. Don't wanna experiment with the beauty, whether or not it holds true to durability claims. This pic above looks like someone slide the phone on a hard surface. Better luck with it next time.....

Now I wonder if the scratches would show as well on the ice platinum when compared to the black?

Not sure why you'd be ashamed to have the same phone as us when nobody questioned you at all. In fact we questioned the OP who seems to think this is lg's fault when clearly, as youve stated, it's due to the surface at your work. The OP probably should have got the facts before posting yet another thread about a phone he clearly doesn't like nor does he own anymore.

While you may not toss your phone in your purse, it's safe to say you don't go out of your way to ensure it's "safety". As for not having time to buy a case, whoever you bought the phone from didn't sell cases for it?

You CHOSE not to use a case and it clearly wasn't a good decision for you based on how you care for your phone. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's hardly LG's fault and I don't see it being a big problem as your "friend", the OP, stated.

Good luck either way an get a case. If for no other reason than to hide those hideous scratches!

Yeah. You don't get those type of abrasions from just 'normal' laying it on a counter or in your front pocket type of use.

Look at the abrasions on the bottom of the phone how deep and uniform and only that bottom part... it's being wedged against something and scratches under pressure. The ones on the lens, the scratches are pretty uniform and not in a up/down pattern like being put and taken out of pocket or slid in table but looks like pressed against something and grinding against in a circular motion.

Normal use, like laying it on a table... you'd have scratches along the whole back side.

If I had to guess... back pocket jean carry and pressure at the bottom part of pocket and either debris in the pocket or just sitting and grinding.

The OP's "friends posted in the G6 forum about what happened. The tables at her work are abrasive and caused the damage. The OP failed to mention that little fact since it didn't fit the narrative. Hes not a big LG fan apparently.

The G6 back glass is Gorilla Glass 5, the same used in the Back of the new S8 and the same thing probably would have happened with an S8 or any glass backed phone. If the 'rough surface' was some tile or stone there can be any sort of material within laying on the surface that can scratch.

The G6 is a solid phone. Too bad what happened to it. Enjoy.

I understand what you are saying, definitely. I did notice some other commenters who claimed I did it on purpose, etc. That's unacceptable and that I am ashamed of.

That being said as I look at the back of the phone now, it's not terrible, it's more micro-scratchy. Glossy anything tends to do this. There is a scratch that is towards the bottom of my phone that is a mystery,. But my general opinion still stands. I should have somehow made some time to get a case, I didn't, life goes on.

That's too bad, for sure! I treat my phones with kid gloves - they're always in cases and have screen protectors on them. With any expensive flagship like the G6, I'd say it's always a good rule of thumb to have some kind of protection on them. Of course, any phone should be taken care of well, but when you're looking at a phone like an S8 or G6, you need to think about protecting your investment.

Could be quartz. Marble has a hardness rating of about 6 which is what GG5 will scratch at. Quartz is actually harder at 7.... that would do it.

I can't think exactly what the surface is, it's not granite, maybe a smooth marble?
