Sorry. Rant. Is anyone else as sick of "it just works" as I am????

In one post, you defend everything Apple. In your next post, you say it wasn't fitting your needs so you switched to Android.
Why is this confounding you? Do we have to be black and white? Either love everything Apple or hate it? On a daily basis I use my One with Android, my iPad with jailbroken iOS, my Mac mini with a Microsoft keyboard/mouse and Dell displays, and at least one of three Dell machines running Win 7, Fedora and Ubuntu. I am not a brand loyalist just for the sake of being one. I try to use the tech that best suits my needs at the time.

Then you tell people you disagree that iPhone is used as a status symbol because they have seen it and you haven't. But then a few posts later you say that you weren't disputing it, but that you were simply unable to understand why it happens.
OK, clearly I did not express myself well in this statement as everyone has taken it to mean something I didn't intend. I'm sorry. What I meant to say was that I don't know why anyone would view an material possession, and in this specific case a phone, as a symbol of status.

Aside from all of that, OP's post and a lot of the comments that followed are based on personal experience and personal opinion. So really we're all a little insane and uptight for trying to debate about what someone else feels or has experienced. I enjoy the passion and I appreciate everyone's opinions. My frustration kicked in when people started reading in to what OP and a few of us said and tried to insinuate that iOS sucked when in reality that was never remotely stated.
Agreed, I was just trying to add some color to the comment that "it just works" is valid and that buying an iPhone because it's an iPhone, while not overly descriptive, can also be a valid decision for someone.

It looks nice, has a giant easy to identify logo or accessories with the logo for the whole world to see, and celebrities run around singing or rapping about having their iPhones. I can replace iPhone with Beats Headphones, Jordans, Air Forces, Fitted or Snapback hats, Sunglasses, Jeans, Shirts, and I don't have time to keep going oh yeah and 24" Rims.

Yup, none of it makes any sense. It clearly exists, I just dont get it. This is what I was lumping into the category of the uninformed consumer. These people seems to have a set of priorities that I just don't understand. Hey, if it makes them happy...

Their priority is to fit in with the cool crowd first then anything else comes after.

As a new Android user who is loving the OS and my One i can say that Android doesn't "just work" the way iOS does. The end user doesn't need to know anything or configure anything to have a great experience on an iPhone. You can't really say that about most Android devices. I think part of the fun of Android is the customization and how much you can tailor the OS to suit your needs, but this also comes at the price of an OS that is more complicated. I don't think one OS is inherently better than the other, they just take different approaches and each speaks to a different audience.

There will always be some defective devices or bugs in an OS, but iOS and Apple blow away the competition on user satisfaction surveys. Again, their OS is more simple, it's easier to use and harder to screw up. At the same time, you better want to use it the way it's designed to work because you can't change much.

This is the fundamental difference iOS and Android and it's a perfectly reasonable distinction. Anyone who claims that one OS is better for everyone than the other OS is misguided at best. Anyone who claims that all users of "the other" OS are somehow fools or lesser people is just silly.

Pretty much spot on.

I find it odd, Google needs to reign in more and control more of Android like Apple does with iOS but Apple needs to be more open like Google. Different strokes. Different philosophies. One isn't better than the other. And they don't have to be the same. I don't get why "hardcore fans of Android" get so bent out of shape over Apple and iOS. Sometimes, it seems like hate for hates sake.

I have an iPhone 4S for work, and I don't like it.
I bought a Q10 to try it out, used it for a week and sold it on eBay the next day.

Nexus 4 forever...or until Nexus 5 comes out.

I don't think anyone here has any hate for Apple or the iOS. However, I do think the "hardcore fans of Apple/iPhone" (on a lot of sites) are the ones who seem to get so bent out of shape when someone doesn't like their device. There just seems to be an arrogance that I have run into on the part of the Apple folks when visiting forums. Just like my OP said with the "it just works" thing. I could hardly read a forum when looking for a phone where someone wasn't throwing this out there, and in a way that def implied that other phones must be crap. I'm not sure arrogance is the right word, but there is def a sense that the Apple folks seem to think they are part of the "cool club" and if you're not in, you're out. Hadn't had the need to read blogs for a while, and when I started looking for a phone 2-3 months ago, dove in full force, and this is what really stood out and surprised me. I just didn't know or expect there to be any real super charged emotions involved in picking out a phone, LOL!

Right?! One of the guys who works for me actually wanted to take me out to lunch when I switched to Android because he was happy I had "switched teams." I took the lunch and all, but I guess I just am not passionate about my devices the same way others are.

Scroll back and yes, there is actual hate for Apple and iOS. While some may see arrogance from one side, the other side might see jealousy.

It only matters if you complain about it and by starting this thread, it's clear that it bothers you. It's Coke vs. Pepsi. It's American cars vs. imports. Not gonna say get over it, but it really shouldn't bother you that much.

Are you saying I am jealous? Of what? Because someone has an iPhone? I'm not sure I understand your post exactly. I am a stay at home mom, though the kids are teens now. I don't venture out into the work place or have many discussions with people about their phones. I needed a new phone and started reading. Didn't really ask around much, because I figured everyone just got whatever phone suited their needs. Was a bit taken aback by my friend's "it's an iPhone" comment, but didn't think too much of it. However, once I delved into the blogs, there was a def inference from a lot, not all, but enough iPhone fans that if you didn't have an iPhone, your phone was junk. I started the post because I saw it so often that it started to get annoying and was wondering if it was just me. Obviously, from all the posts, folks feel strongly on both sides, but def see more of a haughtiness from one side, and it isn't android.

Are you jealous that people still think that an iPhone "just works"? My only evidence is that you started this thread. Base on that evidence, I'll assume you are. Further evidence for other posts in this thread, the comments about the Apple brand and "cool kids".

Quick reminder: Android owns the mobile market with regards to overall market share.

You only see what you look for.

Android Central is now the only forum I visit regularly. When Apple updates any of their iOS products (be it a major iOS update like iOS 7 or a new iPhone like when the 5 came out), people come out of the woodwork to reiterate their "hate" for Apple. Every update is "Apple's last chance" like they're in such a decline that they'll close up shop (HTC's recent problems) or be bought out by someone (Motorola's continuing problems).

Heck the junk arguments happen within the Android community as well (see Samsung's plastic vs. HTC's build quality).

Does that mean one side hates more than the other? No. Does it mean one side is more "haughty"? No.

It's not that serious.

I guess it depends on your point of view. I'm an iPhone 5 and HTC One owner, and I see much more attitude among Android owners. It's like that dog in the movie "Up" - everyone's fighting amongst themselves over who has the better Android phone when suddenly someone yells "Rabbit!", er, I mean "iPhone!" and then the anti-Apple circlejerk begins. That's just how I see it, though. Like I said, it all depends on your point of view.

Am I jealous that people think their iPhone just works? This doesn't really make sense, but well, to answer it anyway, that would be no. I don't care that people think their phone just works, other than the fact that it just seems to get repeated by ill-informed people ad nauseum. That is what is annoying.

As far as your "further evidence" regarding the "cool kids." ???

Haughty: Blatantly and disdainfully proud. Yes. This is what I have found on a lot of boards. A lot. I don't see how commenting or starting a thread saying this is annoying makes me jealous.

Yes, I am not saying android doesn't have their mouthy folks as well. I don't think I have said anything hating on Apple, just my observations - that I feel there is a certain attitude amongst more Appler users on a lot of forums.

You don't read this forum, then? :D

Lol! I get it :)

Re: Sorry. Rant. Is anyone else as sick of "it just works" as I am????

I'm sick of hearing the phrase as well.

My main gripe, though, is with apple and... You want to listen to music? Then quit buying CD's and just download it from our store. You want to watch a DVD? Well don't buy the physical media, download it from our store...

And don't get me started on putting an "i" in front of everything. It just make you sound stupid!

I have a few 'pods and a Mac. I still buy and rip CDs, it's not a problem.

HTC iOne was more suited to me as a PDA/ communications device than Apples offering.

Yep...that's what I'm talking about...I work with a guy who says he'd never buy anything other than an Apple phone because "He tried to use a Treo back in 2003 and it sucked". (It actually did suck, as I owned one too, but that was still 4 years before Apple put out their first iPhone) I'm so disillusioned that I don't bother telling him the Treo had Windows Mobile on it, and that Microsoft and Google are two different companies. He also buys Macbooks because he heard they are better than Windows based computers...Yet all he does is surf the internet and check his email. Yep, that justifies it.

Doesn't need justification. He's happy, that's all that matters. Apple did their job.

I have 30" rims. 24s are so 2010. Mine is bigger than yours. So there... :)

My personal observation is there seams to be a coolness factor associated with hating/negative post about Apple. It's like they have to state that they hate Apple or would never/ have never owned an Apple product to build up their credibility. Even childless false statements get likes and thanks, especially on the CrackBerry forum.

You obviously haven't read any of the HTC One vs Samsung S4 threads have you ? The Sammy fans get bent out of shape because they bought a plasticky, laggy phone that only has 16 Gig of storage and seven gigs is used up by gimmicky bloatware. Things can get hot and heavy in those threads. ;)
