Speed Differences Between Simple Choice Plans and the new Unlimited Plans

Long story short, I've even a Google Voice user for years and was using a company SIM card on Verizon. I left my company and now have to pay for wireless service. My wife had an extra TMo SIM and I'm giving it a try for now before I actually go out and get new service. I noticed that my wife's extra SIM had the Simple Choice an and not the Unlimited plus. When I perform a network speed test I'm getting extremely slow upload and download speeds. But my friend is getting 30 down and 15 up consistently when doing side by side tests. Is there a difference in speeds in the plans? Thanks in advance.

There shouldn't be. How much data do you use a month? Same phone? Same spot? Same speed test server ?

"An extra SIM" may not be activated. The only difference in speeds should be if you exceed the unspoken maximum download amount in an "unlimited" plan - then the speed gets capped. But that maximum is at least 40-50GB/month. (In other words, under some circumstances, unlimited gives you lower speeds.)

What may be happening is that your phone doesn't have any of the T-Mobile 4G bands used in your area, so you're limited to 3G speeds - because of the phone, not because of the plan. But, since you didn't tell us where you are (state, at least) or the make and model of the phone, we can't even make an uninformed guess.

I have an unlocked variant of the Note 8 in Northern NJ.
