Spell check issue

I've only had my phone for a week or so and new to the Galaxy. When I type text messages and spell check catches a misspelled word, my last word typed, and I choose the suggested correct spelled word, it deletes my whole text. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Not sure if this is the same issue, but looks similar. Don't believe you're doing anything wrong.
