Sprint Galaxy S3 - 4.3 Q & A

Re: 4.3 Q & A

You need to disable mobile data and gps if you're not using them. When mobile data is disabled you can still make and receive calls and text messages, Facebook just won't check for updates, nor will your weather widget, email and whatever else you have sucking up your data and gps which saves battery. When you need gps, or data it literally takes 2 seconds to flip the switch. Try your same test again, put the phone in your pocket for 45 minutes but before you do, disable mobile data and gps, tell me how much your battery drops then. I do that myself, and on a recent 3 hour trip over some relatives house in a not so strong signal area, my battery dropped 15% in 3 and a half hours WITH usage (checking train schedules, fantasy football changes, looking up stuff on Google, texting, etc.) you just turn on mobile data when you need it and off when you don't when you're away from home. And also I forgot to turn it back off the last time I used it that day so for the last 40 minutes it was on and sucking battery so it probably would have been better if not for that. At home I'm connected to wifi so that's not a problem. The main thing I DO dislike is on 4.1.2 there was a tile in the quick settings to toggle mobile data, I don't see it on 4.3. Have to go all the way into settings >more networks >mobile networks >mobile data

I have a mobile data toggle on the new update. Something must not be right then

Re: 4.3 Q & A

Anyone have a problem with it freezing up on you and then having to pull the battery or let it reboot? Happen at least 3 times since the update

Re: 4.3 Q & A

You mean that toggle switch?

Yes I do, as you can see I don't have that toggle, am I missing something?

Go to Settings / My Device / Display / Notification Panel. Should be able edit it from there.

That's where the top picture was taken from, there is that option but I still don't see mobile data

Re: 4.3 Q & A

My mobile data toggle is at the top in my notification bar. Just pull down the bar and its there. Its not in the notification panel.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

No problem yet, as I am just getting ready to know where to go in case I have such a problem - I am still deciding if I should do the XDA DL, but I am not sure about the formatting of the partition as I don?t know what I will lose - I am guessing everything - I was hoping for more of a dirty flash

I initially dirty flashed and still had my stuff. I then wiped everything but external sd card and OTG. Worked great. Then TiBu restored my apps. Use TiBu's create a update.zip for a quick flash install of TiBu. Do a nandroid backup first of all and you'll be fine.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

What do you think of it? I manually updated my phone with the file provided by XDA members recently. Still messing around with settings and getting use to newer stuff. So far I dislike my text messages/phone character icon is annoyingly stupid looking.
Also what apps do you recommend turning off? I see there's a lot more loaded on with the update.

So far so good on the Galaxy S3. Did the OTA update. Overall performance enhancements. No downsides yet for me at least.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

Does anyone know how to bring the WIFI notification back? It used to work on 4.1.2 without any problem.
I'm talking about if you have a saved network that is require an additional login when you automatically connect and it is require to open the browser to create an account to register the device to that network so you can use it. Before as soon the phone is connected on top notification bar it is show message that tell the WiFi is require additional information to sigh in (or something similar) and when you click it is open the default browser and show you the sign in page of the network. After the update it is connecting directly to the WiFi but no notification and basically your phone is not connected.
Thanks

Re: 4.3 Q & A

How did you fix this? I recently updated my Co workers T-Mobile s3 to 4.3 via OTA, but they're missing their toggle switch for mobile data.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

For those who haven't taken the OTA version with "Knox", Thunderstick at XDA has put together an "all in one" flashable version of CNexus' odexed, Rooted MK3 (4.3) ROM with all the fixes.

===> HERE <===

What it will do:
"-It will install the ODEX STOCK MK3 Rom with all the improvements CNexus busted his *** to bring to us.
(No KNOX, WIFI Fixed, Rotating Screen Working, Rooted, Additional Quick Settings, Hot Spot Fix)
-Will install the MK3 Baseband/MODEM/Radio...
-Will Format the System Partition before installing
-Will Delete Cache and Dalvik-Cache" <=== From ThunderStick's OP

Enjoy and hit his Thanks button...

Do you know what happens when you "Format the System Partition before installing"? By doing that will it affect anything - by that I mean will this in a sense be like a dirty flash where my settings will still be in place because it is only reformatting the "System Partition" or will I lose all of my apps and settings and have to reinstall and tweak everything?

Just trying to decide on what to do - as the Official Sprint OTA may not work because of billard412's camera mod that I have on my non rooted phone - if that is the case than I will have to use the XDA version with root where possibly a few of my apps won't work afterwards because of root.

Thanks!

Re: 4.3 Q & A

No, this will be a clean flash. All your data and settings will be gone unless you back ir up first. If you want to do a dirty flash, see this thread:

[STOCK ROM] Stock 4.3 MK3 ROM [ROOTED/UNROOTED] - xda-developers

You'll need to be rooted first to apply either version. And note that 4.3 is a major change to Android. A dirty flash is much more likely to cause problems than a clean one. But if you choose to dirty flash and have issues, you can always do a clean flash later.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

I just received the 4.3 update on my Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 and I am missing that same toggle switch for Mobile Data on Notification Panel. Where you ever able to figure it out.

Unfortunately no I wasn't. Mobile data is a huge battery drain when is not being used and unfortunately I'm just going into settings>more networks >mobile data to toggle. If you discover a shortcut please let me know

Re: 4.3 Q & A

I'm not sure how to bring that switch in the notification panel, but I didn't loose it after the upgrade. I did my update manually with the file from xda threat. I'm not rooted at all. here is what I have:
Screenshot_2013-12-09-08-50-12.pngScreenshot_2013-12-09-08-50-28.png
What I notice is that now none of the notifications are show up in the notification area. I mean from my calendar (if a have a event and set alert and notification is setup for Status bar notification) or wifi (to sign if network require additional info to login).
Does anyone know if it is some kind of switch to turn them on/off somewhere in this new update?
Thanks

Apparently there are now 2 different update versions. the one that I did from XDA manually is L710VPUCMK3. the official one from Sprint is L710VPMK3.
Check and see which one you have? Maybe that is the problem.

Re: 4.3 Q & A

When wifi is connected, mobile data is automatically turned off, and not using any battery.
