ok i ddi the update via kids and have a question/problem with the new update. it is constantly showing 4 files i have downloaded as complete in the menu bar. when i clear them it disappears for a few and then shows them again. i did a power cycle and still no change. any ideas/suggestions

Go to settings /application manager /all /download manager clear cache and data. Reboot and the issue should be fixed

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I do indeed have kies and have used it to connect to my home computer before. That is about all I have ever done with it.

Connect via usb, open up kies and let it connect. A prompt should come up automatically to update. Follow the prompts. If not ,check the box of firmware version. the latest version should be newer than current version. Click on firmware upgrade right above that.

You just fire up your pc, start the Samsung Kies program, it'll take a while to load up, once it's loaded, it'll take a minute to recognize your device, once it does the model number will appear along with a summary of your internal and external memory and right below that it'll list the current firmware version and what it should be on, a box pops up that says a firmware update is available for your phone and asks you to acknowledge the terms and proceed with update. It's really simple, that's just off the top of my head because I just did it yesterday. There's more specific guides online I'm sure

Sorry, but this is not what I see. I tried to follow your directions and I connected via USB with no problem. I then open Kies Air (note I this is the application I have but perhaps I need something different). When I open Kies Air I do not get an update prompt but a prompt with directions to connect wirelessly. I did follow those and then I checked for settings concerning firmware upgrade and nothing. I also checked on teh computer side and again nothing. Do I need a different app? I checked the play store and didn't find anything different either.

More investigation revealed the Kies windows application and I installed tehat and upgraded to latest level. I am now in the process of performing the update. Thank you for the help.

I downloaded OTA .. Still playing around but I can't find where the "developer options " went . Instead of running a few background processes and saving battery .. It back to running about 35 or so when I clear it .


Edit ..... Never mind . A quick search and BOOM there the answer was ! This site rocks !

when i plugged my phone in using the usb cable it said update available and then hit ok. it told me the update was available.

In post 21 you said you had updated already. Why are you trying again? Is it to solve a problem?

Settings /more/About phone
Tap on the build number about 7 times. Back out to settings /more...
Viola! You have developer options

For those looking for developer options.
Go to settings, more, about device. Press on build number 5 times and voila. Go back to more settings tab to find dev options.

-Updated calandar (ui fixes)
-Updated samsung apps' ui's
-Change of core ui to mirror s4
-Opengl 3.0
-Trim support
-Faster snappier ui and performance
-Updated gpu drivers
-Tabbed settings (like s4)
-New s voice
-same notification panel as s4 (drag down 2 fingers to show all quick settings at once like s beam and blocking mode)
-updated camera (added sound and shot and camera icon)
- updated email app (better ui and easier functionality)
-updated samsung keyboard (supports extra languages available for download)

I'll post exact benchmark scores later, but I can say that 3dmark scores improved by like 1000 after the update and games fps is greatly improved.
Two games that suffered from lag before: MC4 and subway surfers are now faster and have no apparent lag.
