sprint navigator updated to telenav gps

A few questions.

1. Will this update work on the Sprint LG Optimus S? I currently have Telenav version 5.8 which was automatically loaded as a part of the 'Sprint ID' pack.

2. If OK for the Optimus S, will installing the update overwrite/replace version 5.8 or should I uninstall v5.8 first?

3. What is the installed size of the new version? (5.8 takes up 8.96MB of space.)

4. Any way to move new version to the SD card in Android 2.2? Version 5.8 cannot be moved to the SD card.

Thanks!

Right now, the update to TeleNav GPS Navigator 6.2 is only available on the HTC EVO and we haven't yet made any new announcements about it's availability on other phones. Regarding the size, I just checked mine and it's about 12.67 MBs. And to answer your last question, I'm not 100% on the answer, so let me see what I kind find out. Thanks for your patience!

KenjiatTeleNav,,,

Anyway on next update to have the actual speed appear like the garmin nav units have? That would be a nice feature. Love that on my brothers garmin.

Fingers crossed! I just sent our product team your thoughts about this. If my vote counts, I would love to see this too. ;)

Is there an ETA on availability for the other phones?

Thank You.
I think people would be amazed at just how far off some car speedometers can be.

Hope thus does make it into the next build.
I am liking this update.

Thanks Glenn. I did check it and found that the phone *is* going to sleep properly. I keep Wifi/4G/Bluetooth off, while GPS is on.
If you have Wifi at your home, turn it on. You can keep 3G (mobile data) on, as well. The Evo drains more battery when not on Wifi.

Now, back on topic...

Is there any way to set your home using current coordinates? I didn't mention this in my previous posts because I don't recall the "home" feature being there prior to the update, and it's not that big a deal going into favorites for directions home.

The reason I ask is because the place where I live is a somewhat new developed community, so the address cannot be found on the Telenav map (although it's been around for more than five years, and can be found on Google Maps and from last year's Garmin map update), and as far as I can tell, you have to enter an address or cross-street to "setup home."

And back to the issue with the app being pre-set to avoid traffic delays... It looks like unless I deviate from the "chosen" route, it will not actually try to reroute based on traffic. If I don't deviate from the route, then I have to tap on the traffic icon, and choose "minimize delays," and then "accept" the new route if a faster route is found.

This rather defeats the purpose of telling the app to avoid traffic delays to begin with.

To me, the ability for the GPS to automatically reroute based on traffic is one of the most important features it can have, and is the only reason I use Telenav instead of Google Navigation--I don't want to have to reach over to my phone/GPS to tell it to avoid traffic delays and look for a faster route, which diverts attention from the road.

So, if there can be an option for it to do so without prompting me, or at least have the three route options to actually check traffic conditions first (it doesn't seem to be doing that when first getting directions), that would be great.

I just upgraded and I can't seem to find the option Drive To--Intersection. The older version let me input just the intersection street names. Was this option forgotten or was it left out on purpose????? or am I just overlooking this option.

How are you guys getting the update

Hi Everyone, I've been following this thread and would like to try the new Navigator. I can't seem to find a way to do the update and am wondering if this is something being pushed out by Sprint (beyond my control) or can I go somewhere to download and install the new program? Thanks for your help.

You may not see it if you are rooted (I am and didn't see it, but found it another way). The way people were notified is by starting Sprint Navigation and then getting a message that an update was available. The message takes you to the address posted in the link in my signature. If you go to the link on your EVO, you can read the info, click download and that should take care of it. If you click the link on a computer, you can go through an extra page and download the apk to copy to your phone's SD card and install later.

Just put the street names in the search box on the Drive To screen, such as "first st and pine ave".

I've been using it every day going home from work. It does appear to be taking traffic into account when it gives me 3 choices of routes. The estimated travel times are different and vary each day. I really haven't had much traffic yet to test if it will warn me and switch routes.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Unfortunately for me, there's a lot of traffic both going to and coming from work, and Telenav never seems to default to the fastest, least traffic affected route when I use it. (Whereas prior to the update, it always did automatically.)

I usually wait about five seconds after choosing the default route, then tap the traffic button, and choose "minimize delays," and let Telenav do its thing, and sure enough, each time it will show me a different route that Telenav says saves me a few minute of time stuck in traffic.

Hi all - Just checking back in. Thanks for your patience. Right now, I unfortunately don't have any new information for you but hopefully I'll have something for you early next week.

Thanks again all. I certainly appreciate your understanding.

Yup, I can confirm that when multi-route is created, traffic is taken into consideration. :)

Is there a way to turn off alternate route suggestions upon route start? I've got the app set to avoid traffic delays, which means it often doesn't use the original route chosen anyway, so that's an extra second wasted waiting for the app to show alternate routes...

Thanks for your patience, Glenn. Right now, there is no way to disable the multi-route feature but be assured because it does take traffic into account when creating the routes.

Kenjia:

Do you know why it was pulled from being automatically updated when starting Sprint Navigation? Was it due to the background task issue?

Someone suggested to go to Drive To - and input the street names in the search box , but all it does is it tries to find businesses with the first street name.

My evo is rooted with unrevoked, while my sweetirs is still stock. Neither were upgraded. By navigating using the link on page 2 i upgraded mine successfully to ver 6.2.
We will wait and see if hers is auto updated.
