Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Okay, so I just downloaded the "SPH-D700_eclair_OpenSource.tar.gz" from opensource.samsung.com.

Is this the file I need to install 2.2? If so, what are my next steps?

That file won't do you any good. Keep checking the 1st post of this thread for links to the correct file(s) when they become available.

Woops! I meant to say that I downloaded this one, "SPH-D700_Froyo_EC05.tar.gz"

This has gotta do something, right? Otherwise, yeah I guess I can try to hold my horses.

No, raw data. Nothing flashable

Doesn't seem like we're going to get anything flashsable this time. On the EB13 update the flashable files were out well before the OTA even hit. Still nothing but the source code on samies site.

Good morning everyone.. Glad to see everyone is talking about the OTA update that hasn't seemed to be confirmed by a single person.... LOL.

Honestly I don't know what to make of all this.. We have no confirmed OTA. No manual updates. Guess we will see what today brings.

Has the OTA hit ANYONE'S phone yet or is it a pipe dream?

Samsung is teasing us

Morning... :)

You aren't taking what you wrote in your very own post that started this thread as confirmation (good enough)? Is it because it's simply words from Sprint's community forums instead of actually verbatim from Sprint or Samsung? Just curious...

But then again, with the combined track record of Sprint and Samsung with our Epic so far (in terms of updates), I'd be overly cautious as well...

Yes I do acknowledge the official release statement from Sprint in the OP of this thread that I started. That is about the only thread of evidence we have of it so far. Yes we do have 2 custom based ROMs on EC05 already but that is not for discussion in this thread.

I'm just going off past updates, this time around things seem to be much quieter and as I said we have no confirmed OTA updates yet or any signs of a manual method. So I guess the race is on to whoever will be the first to receive the update?!

Is it possible to pull the update.zip from the OTA update IF anyone receives it?! So we can share it with everyone!

try baked snack v2.1

I need my epic fully functional for at least 20 days with gps working and pretty much everything for an upcoming trip.. I tried syndicate rom and ace rom, they look cool, syndicate rom is very fast but to be honest it wasnt that stable. The 1.0.1 version gave me a very bad bug in which it automaticaly deleted any new files I transfered onto the SD card and the newer version 1.0.2 started force closing everything on me, couldnt even send SMS messages.

I came to the conclussion that eclair was going to be the best option for my situation.. at least we know it's stable. So finding out about this new Froyo version was like light from heaven. I think I am not gona install any custom mods for a while and try the new stock froyo as it is. A big concern is allways battery life, which completly sucked donkeys in eclair but I use this

Amazon.com: Samsung Epic 4G (2800 mAh) Extended Life Battery with Replacement Back Cover: Cell Phones & Accessories

that pretty much ended my battery life problem
Have you tried baked snack v2.1. I love this rom. Also if you want to donate to Hero_Over in his website you can get the lastest version of baked snack v2.2. :D

Still, not one person here with an actual Epic has received the update and we are day 2 into it? Weird...

Totally weird. Oh wait, not really. Remember who we are dealing with here. The two big S words. Samsung, and Sprint, not truly known for their punctual pressence.

I don't expect any OTA update - I'm on EB13, rooted, EXT4. I just plan to look for the manual update instructions...as well as the problems. The updates ALWAYS comes w/problems.

I'd hardly say Day 2. Wasn't EC05 supposed to drop the same time as EB13? That being 9 PM Pacific time the day of the release? By that reckoning, we're less than 13 hours into the release as of the time of this posting.

Pretty sure the next morning there were plenty of people claiming to have received their updates. Now of course that was the first Froyo so there was alot more attention to it but still I think we would have heard of people getting it by now.

I'm typically a day 3 or 4 on updates for some reason, so I'm not expecting anything personally so soon.
