Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Just did a firmware check. It took five minutes and never responded. I hit cancel and now it says "session in progress." I'm running EB13. Any thoughts?

manually checking for firmware updates like that will not do anything. the update has to be pushed to your phone first.

if you decide not to update when you are notified then you can use that manual method to update.

Dunno if that's the case here. I clicked update firmware, not update android. I understood update android to be the manual update. Either way, its been going for a while now. Phone hours through spurts of lag.

You will not receive the OTA update by manually forcing it with the options in Settings>About Phone>System Updates.

It has to be pushed to your device by Sprint/Samsung.

This is correct. You can push the damned update button all you want but nothing will happen until it is pushed to you. That ONLY works if the update was sent and for some reason you declined it. Later you can go back and update.

Tic....toc...

Oh great...now that I've seen this thread, i'm compelled to check my phone every 20 minutes....sigh.

Yeah, I know. But the window has everything grayed out on the update screen. I can't click anything now.

Nothing new otherwise.

The interesting thing is that if you go to Sprint's website it says that there is an update available. It then tells you to update to do the following:

Update your software

To update your Samsung Epic 4G over the air:

1. Go to the Home screen
2. Tap Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Update Android
3. Your phone will automatically download and install any available updates; you may need to power your phone off and back on to complete the software upgrade

If this means anything, app installs from the android marketplace are taking forever to get to my phone so maybe the network is buried under traffic

They clearly must be taking their time with this one. After the EB13 issues everyone had, I bet they are very hesitant to release a manual update again. I, for one, am just going to continue waiting and watching.

I just received an out of the blue text from Sprint announcing "Coming soon! Sprint ID on your Epic. ID packs bundle apps, wallpapers, ringtones and more for your lifestyle. Learn more http://sprint.us/id1"

Filled with youthful hope, I followed the link, which just provides a minimal marketing blurb and directs you to sprint.com/epicsupport for more info. There, under "Alerts, Fixes, Downloads" is the following announcement: "A software update is available for your phone. Update now." Huzzah!

Follow that link, and you get the same instructions that you found: Go to the Home screen, Tap Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates > Update Android.

Which, of course, does absolutely nothing.

Silly, silly Sprint.

Not yet.. The same guy that posted here about his son's phone also posted the same msg at XDA.

So I get it...Sprint is pushing it out to ONE phone at a time...

they will be done right after I die of old age....or maybe not RIGHT after...more like 6 months after. I don't see anything about this on the other "alpha geek" sites...hmmmm

I just got the same text from Sprint regarding SprintID... hoping this is an indicator that I'm not far from the queue...
