Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Okay, I did run this by Ragnarokx our Moderator for Epic 4g and he said in theory it should work flashing a zip with the files your missing but he also remembers people having some issues in past updates doing this.

He recommended and I agree your best bet for a guaranteed OTA update is to Odin back to stock Froyo EB13 so you have no worries on missing the OTA update. You can't use the update.zip method, that is only going from Eclair 2.1 (DI18) to Froyo EB13.

Use procedure #1 in the link below to perform the process.

[How to] Factory Restore (or Fix a Bricked Phone)

Wow, alright. I kinda figured It'd be a bit more involved than simply just being able to re-install the missing .apk files, but thats what I get for being ******ed and not backing up the apps before I removed them. That said, thanks a bunch for the help. I will be doing this in the morning though, time for bed now. :p

EDIT: I just remembered that I also have the full Samsung installer app for EB13 as well. Would I be able to just use that instead to essentially re-flash the entire device back to stock EB13? Or is the Odin method in your guide the better/easier way to go?

The Windows Froyo EB13 installer? Yes you can try it, the worst that would happen is it realizes your rooted and kicks back an installation error right in the starting stages and stops the install..

Or you can skip it and save any possible issues and just use the method I gave you.

Still waiting on EC05...

I installed the EB13 from the Samsung website a few weeks back, with a couple resets to try to clear some of the issues. Here are the issue's I still have been experiencing:

1.) 4g connection says connected, but i cannot browse the web or do any up or down data transfer whatsoever.

2.) 3g data connection went to crap, very unstable and much slower than it was previously.

3.) Keyboard issues, can't type fast because it wont recognize the second letter key press sometimes. (i know there is a fix for this, but its not worth it with this supposed OTA update coming to see if it is fixed)

.

I did the same as you and am suffering these issues.

Lol. Everyone cared about the nexus. Lol

" hey Samsung. With the froyo updates of late, what keeps customers coming back?

I missed the conversation. I do not have a rooted phone. Has the update from samsung begun being disseminated to normal smart phones?

Doesn't seem so, at least not to 99% of the people. A couple got it in this thread and thats about it. I think if we don't start seeing a a good chunk of the community here getting it today then I think we have a problem.

ughhh this is starting to get on my nerves! i spoke to sprint yesterday they said this whole update thing was not a rumor but it really seems to be!

I can tell you that im NOT having any of these issues running EC05

That is good to hear, you went strait from eclair to EB05 correct?

Odd thing is, some had issues, some don't. If my issues are not resolved after the update I will try a hard reset.

I admit I have not read every post..

However, My Epic 4g was rooted, and I uninstalled every single sprint application after installing eb13.

Monday, I re-ran the EB13 software update exe which I downloaded from Samsung, and was able to restore my phone back to stock.. All bloatware is back, including Asphalt, phone is unrooted and as if it never was.

Yes, I do still have the original file if anybody is interested.. I just need a place to upload a 200mb file.

LIke I said before im still new at this so excuse my ignorance. Im not sure what I was running before. I can tell you ive never gone on samsungs site or any other site and downloaded any kind of updates. The only time I update or download anything is when the phone promts me to.

After doing that did you get the EC05 update?

Mark, you seem to be the only documented person to receive the EC05 OTA update. If I had not seen the photo of your About Phone screen, I would have thought you were messin with us. ;) Hopefully the EC05 OTA update floodgates will be opened soon.

Two of my brothers and their wives have Epics, plus my wife and I. Not one of us has seen the update. I am the only one to dabble with manual updates and rooting.

My son got it yesterday morning. He woke up to it. He also was on di18 and not rooted. Just like Mark, he doesn't mess with this stuff and only does the updates sent to him.

Yea I thought it was kind of weird myself. When i got up yesterday the phone said it needed to be updated so I let it do its thing and here I am. Im new to all this but still shocked that im the only one to get it. If anyone else has any questions feel free to ask, Ill answer them to the best of my ability. Guess I should consider myself lucky for once..
