Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

drekosh, are you saying you were on EB13 and used the zip file to go to EC05, or did you go back to DI18 first? I thought the zip file would only work from DI18.

I went back to DI18. I use Titanium Backup and I can get everything back the way i want it in an hour or two after doing a full wipe of my phone. It is a little bit of a pain but it is worth it to me to not have to wait for the OTA update.

Also, I am now rooted with no problems. I'm going to hold out for a stock EC05 deodexed ROM before converting to EXT4 again. Are any of the wonderful devs here working on one? :)

if i downloaded the d18 update from the samsung website can i put that on a sd card and put it on an epic like i did with ec05 on my epic? my friend is running froyo eb13 and wants the new ec05 but im not sure how to get it back to d18 so i can put ec05 on it.... and im not sure what odin is and how it works. kinda a newb here....

does anyone have an answer for me??

For instructions look at the first post. In short, I believe the answer is no.

Upgrade path is DI18 --> EC05 or EB13 --> DI18 --> EC05

Looks like there is no easy EB13 --> EC05 yet.

I was about to apply the update via the zip method by first restoring the phone back to DI18 from EB13. After restoring the phone to DI18, just before I was about to use the update.zip file, I was immediately prompted for the EC05 ota update :)

When you go back to DI18, are you rooted? Not sure I completely understand the whole root thing.

IF I am understanding correctly, no. Once you use Odin to go back to DI18 the phone is exactly how it is when you unboxed it.

Just added: Custom Odin Package Installation!

Just added: We now have a custom Android Central Exclusive Odin Package for those interested.

does the update include people on eb13 who updated the last time? not sure i want to check out the update or stay with my ace

Yeah I'd really like to know if those of us that were updated to eb13 either OTA or via the original update.zip can use this to update to EC05.

My issue now is this is supposed to be the final day for the update to roll out and I still have no notification. If I got and try to do any of the udpates they all error out on my phone. I cannot update PRL, I cannot update firmware, I cannot update Profile.

I get this message: "An error has occurred while trying to update your (context of what I tried to update). Please try again later.

If the problem persists, please call customer care.

Error: unknown error"

The update.zip method provided will only work for those on Eclair 2.1 (DI18)

the method some people mentioned a few pages back of triggering the OTA by downloading something from the market didn't work. I've downloaded three different things from the market nearly 90 minutes ago and haven't received any notification of an update.

hey all,

i downloaded the update.zip file and did the manual install as prescribed in the awesome first post. installation was easy and fairly quick.

the only app that kinda broke was my alarmclock app. when i tried to click the icon, it just said the app wasn't installed, so i deleted the icon and got a new alarmclock app.

i got the epic 3 weeks ago and i was on di18 and haven't received the OTA EC05, so i just tried it manually.

the epic kinda seems slower tho :(
