Sprint Stores Forcing Insurance Extremely Disappointed

BTW I just found out that Sprint automatically put the $7 insurance on my EVO without even mentioning it or asking. I called CS to just check on my plan and that is how I found out.

Everyone may want to check since I think Sprint is automatically adding the insurance. I don't mind it on such an expensive device. Just wish they had told me up front and I forgot to ask when I bought the phone.

The New York store did this to me with the Pre. I noticed it on my receipt.

Another thing that Sprint does is defaults to the TEP plan at $7 per month which includes both insurance and extended warranty coverage. You have to specifically request the insurance only at $4 per month. For the extra $3, I don't think you get any benefit while the phone is still under a manufacturer's warranty - they will still fix it in store. So you are paying $36 the first year to obtain the right to extended warranty coverage after the first year. For my money I would just take the insurance and if your phone has a mechanical failure after the first year either pay for the repair myself or use my credit to buy a new device.

If its damage you caused or if its lost or stolen, you gotta ante up the $100

BUT

If its a Manufacturers defect, the replace it free of charge.

We're lucky here, our expensive device has insurance where iphone has no option to buy insurance through AT&T. Theres other places to buy it, but their a hassle took a month to replace my dads iphone. what a joke, sprint had a new device for me the next day after I had taken one in for a manufacturers defect.

Considering what it would cost to replace this if you break it, the insurance may well be worth it. But if you don't want it, just say "NO!" Or call and cancel the next day. Grow a spine, for Pete's sake.

What's up with people trying to get the activation waived for no reason at all? You folks around here...

The Sprint deductable is $200, not $100. Also, it doesn't cover water damage. I went with the best buy insurance, It's $10/month, but no deductible and covers ALL physical damage. As long as you can get the carcass back in the store, you get a new phone.
If you got a replacement due to a defect and paid no fee, that was under warranty, not insurance. I'll keep the insurance at most one year, then cancel once I'm eligible for an upgrade.

i dont think that is true. When i purchased my phone on sprint.com i clicked on the "more details" or whatever it's called re insurance and they quote a $50 or $100 deductible. Nowhere did it say anything about $200

I went with the best buy insurance. No co-pay for a used referb that Assurion gives out. They promise a new one. But they do not cover lost/stolen or breaking on purpose. (if that happens, just say it was an accident.) They do cover water damage, Assurion does not, they want the $100 if any of the water detector things are red, even if the issue has nothing to do with water damage. Best Buy said if the phone drops in the toilet, just bring it in and get a new one, free. But they do cost $3 more a month then, Assurion SUCKS. (The company that actually does the insurance for Sprint).

sorry man, but to me that is $7 well spent. I know its an exagerated examlple but if you crashed your car and didnt have insurance you would screwed. The same principle applies here.

Can anyone else confirm this? It'd be a nice surprise to only have to pay $4.

I've had a few Treos replace with Assurian. In every case I got a brand new one. I wonder, have you ever actually tried to use the BB insurance? The interwebz is full of people who feel they've been ripped off, because BB finds so many excuses not to pay off.
