Sprint Tri-Band LTE Phone Discussion Thread aka Sprint Spark

Re: Official Sprint Tri-Band LTE Phone Discussion Thread aka Sprint Spark

? Sprint Spark is currently rolling out in parts of Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Tampa.

Hesse said that Spark is available in around 25 percent of those initial markets. "It will take a while to finish," he acknowledged. However, he said that the Spark service could continue to increase in speed in the future. He said Sprint could eventually use 60 MHz 2.5 GHz channels using carrier aggregation, since Sprint controls 120 MHz of 2.5 GHz spectrum in 90 of the top 100 U.S. markets. In two years, that could produce real-world speeds of 150-180 Mbps, Hesse said."

SOrry but they can't even get 3G right. Then it was two brands of "4G" which doesn't cover much outside of major metroplexes. So now they're going to fix all this by coming up with a new multi-band 4G? Forgive me for having my doubts.....

they claimed 60 Mbps and we have confirmed that. I have been able to pull 45Mbps and someone in Cali was getting 50+ Mbps

If they claimed it why haven't you hit the 60 in real world?

I just have doubts and learned to not trust the CEO of Sprint. I was led by his promises for to long.. If he delivers then great I'll be surprised and happy.. I love good data speeds that are unlimited .. If not.. I wouldn't be surprised.

are you that dumb? 45-50+ Mbps is about right when you count over head and interference lol

No I'm not dumb and honestly don't appreciate you being rude for no reason.

No need for insults in the forums, especially when there has been no trouble in this thread.

Re: Official Sprint Tri-Band LTE Phone Discussion Thread aka Sprint Spark

well it is obvious we have stated many times that we were shocked to actually get speeds ~ of what they said would be possible.

I like Sprint and hope they succeed but the reality is they are suffering in tons of places. I simply was led by many promises and got dial up speeds so I left.. But I've always rooted for Sprint because I love carriers who offer unlimited. Anyone in these forums that knows me can tell you that... I hate data caps and hate data speed throttlers... If T-Mobile and Sprint can get their networks like the big guys with unlimited that would rock.

FWIW, I've been a Sprint customer for over 9 years. I've seen Nextel, I've seen WiMax and now LTE. Sprint has fallen severely behind the ball ever since they went WiMax and others went LTE. Now they build up their LTE network on a smaller capacity level that is basically maxed out at launch. So they buy up some additional spectrum from other carriers and close down the old Nextel 800 frequency and repurpose it for LTE and create Sprint Spark. Nice try Sprint but its still suffering and once again you force your customers into buying a new phone to support your latest Tri - band attempt at recovery. I'm hanging in here for a little while longer to see but I see AT&T or even T-Mobile in my future before long.

I live in Chicago suburbs and even with this being one of Sprints main markets its LTE is still very poor compared to its competitors. Thumbs up to their attempts to fix things but I think it may really be to late for Sprint.

I'm right there with ya. I've had Sprint since 1999 and at times it's been abysmal to say the least.

My issue though is unlimited data. T mobile sucks in my area and I average about 30 gig per month. I have very limited options. The following speed test reflects what I'm frequently seeing in my area. Right at my house I still bounce from 3g to 4g with speeds averaging between 1&6 megabytes

Nice. Yeah I'm in the same boat as you.. I average high amounts of data (usually 70 or higher) so unlimited is a key factor. That speed test ain't bad at all :).

Do you have a Tri-band Phone? I was reading on S4GRU.com that Chicago is Blazing fast and consistent on Band 41 (2.5 LTE) and is pretty well blanketing Chicagoland. Sprint just doesn't have enough spectrum online in Chicago for B25 (1900 LTE) it's still waiting on the USCC spectrum to go live, which was just shut off at the end of Jan. B26 (800 LTE) is just in its infancy on its Build out.

Once the USCC spectrum goes online Sprint will be able to add an additional carrier to B25 to take some load off the current carrier. But right now the fastest solution is to get a Tri-Band Phone so you're not stuck on B25 only. B41 is a breath of fresh air.

No I don't. My contract expired back Sept of 2013 and I just can't bring myself to upgrade again into another 2 years of hopes and dreams with Sprint. I currently have my HTC One and the wife has a Galaxy S4. Kids are on GNex's and an iPhone 4.

Those are some great speeds, I'm really glad its doing well for you but Sprint is just so spotty across Chicago. Areas that used to get great speed are now getting less and less. Problem is Sprint's spectrum even with acquiring more from US Cellular and other re-purposing of current Sprint spectrum just isn't enough going forward. I think Tri-Band will be a temp band aid until that is used up then Sprint is with its back against the wall looking for more spectrum which it clearly has no more on tap with its competitors buying up every piece they can and building it out stronger than Sprint is doing with its LTE.

Plus another factor I'm watching is whats the overall effect of battery life with Sprint Spark and jumping from band to band? I think were still early in to get a solid answer there. We all know a " busy " radio is a battery hog.

Maybe I'm wrong.. Only time will tell.

Oh well dude, you only have 1 of 2 options, One being upgrade and get Tri-band Phones to future proof yourself...Band 25 only phones are never going to produce >10Mbps down in Chicago sorry its just too dense and not enough spectrum in that band. Band 41 is the deal, and there is plenty to go around, this is where Sprint is going to kick serious ***. B25 is just going to be a back-up to B41 in dense urban area such as Chicago, NY, and SF.

So as long as you're using Band 25 only phones in Chicago, you'll never be happy with Sprint. So it's either Upgrade or prepare to leave.

Oh and Sprint no longer does contract's if you switch to Framily Plan and Easy Pay.

Like I've mentioned before I've been with Sprint now for over 9 years. I've seen the highs and lows and in my opinion Sprint is still way in the low.. Sure what you say sounds great and I hope it does well but Sprint has gone down this path many times before. Something they should do well with and they fail. Even with those frequencies eventually they load up, if Sprint doesn't have the additional spectrum on tap to handle the load its going to fail again.

As far as the Framily Plan and other offers, they don't impress me much. I have 5 lines with Sprint so I'm being very cautious on considering a new contract or buying into new phones with them. I like many others are right on the bubble of leaving, you can only fail so many times and put up with it.

So Lenny you still on Verizon or switch yet? I see they say New York has it now so you should be good right?
