Hey Paul if I just want to wait for the EC05 OTA should I flash my Epic back to Eclair using Odin or leave it on the Froyo EB13 I got through the update.zip? I have not rooted yet by the way.

You could do that, I would wait into the weekend I am sure this question will be raised about those who officially updated to EB13 and how they go about upgrading to EC05.

I would bet its safe to say you will recieve the OTA update and also have the option of update.zip or the other methods as we had with EB13.

Not sure.. Probably not much aside from Sprint ID. As far as the custom ROMs go, the change over for us devs should be pretty easy... Sprint ID will be the first thing every dev will look into ripping out of this update.

Maybe we will get a solid blue tooth out of this version for those who had so many issues..

Same for me. Since the EB13 update, I have rooted my phone using the process described here. What steps will I need to take to get the new update? I have indeed removed apps (Sprint stuff). Will this mean I need to restore my phone to stock and then apply the update file or will the update simply overwrite what is on there now?

No you will not recieve the update with the Sprint apps removed.

Best thing to do is a backup in Titanium or MyBackUp Root and then Odin back to Stock EB13 and then once you update to the new EC05 and root again you can restore your backups.

I figured that might be the answer, but I was sure hoping I wouldn't have to do all that (I'm pretty freaking lazy, took me like 5 months to even root the thing)

I'll look here for next week for all the info and new procedures.

It should under APPS for your backup. I would also for extra protection download and install Titanium and do a full backup of Angry Birds on there as a secondary.

Question;

I am completely stock EB13 Odexed (from samsungs update.zip) and rooted with oneclick root cwm 2.5.5 (when running it says cwm 2.5.1.0) with all the bug fixs applied. I am running just perfect!

With that being said - Technically if you removed some Sprint bloatware you won't receive the Sprint ID OTA update.

If that is correct could I just remove for example the nascar app "nascar09-prod-release.apk" in the system/app directory via root explorer and that would stop me from getting the Sprint ID OTA.

OR

Maybe there is a hook I need in the update to keep the Sprint network connected?

If your still stock, don't worry you will receive the update.

If your rooted, as long as you haven't installed any custom ROMS, kernels or removed Sprint/Sammy bloatware you will receive the update.

All else fails you will still have the manual updates to fall back on as before.

There are already custom ROMs based on EC05.

If you aren't running a custom ROM, you will receive the update... assuming Sprint doesn't pull it this time.
