This would be funny if it wasn't annoying. So I installed 2.2 via Samsung link when the update was pulled. I loaded everything back on flawlessly and settings personalized. No real problems. Then BAM!! My earpiece speaker went bad last Friday and I had to swap the phone at ASC! Luckily the service tech was able to put 2.2 back on the replacement phone, and I loaded my apps and everything AGAIN. I am having ZERO issues again. I noticed an email got stuck in my outbox which happened frequently on 2.1 so I can't really call it a 2.2 glitch. There is no tiling whatsoever now when using the browser to pinch zoom, and there was mild tiling the first go round. I am back to normal. My data was wiped twice which really is not as difficult as it sounds. The apps take 20 minutes to reload. My contacts/calendar syncs to google so it is really easy. I highly recommend 2.2 AGAIN! Don't be skerred.

Could you please breakdown he first steps a little further. Do i download the link to my phone and open it in Think Free office?or on the computer then connect the epic to the computer for the download? Then how do you place it on the directory? I wanted for the update since 9/2010.Sorry, Ive just read so many forums and want to make sure it is correct from the Pro. the more detailed the better, much appreciated! My phone has stock everything, haven't rooted at all..Just need Froyo..Please!

Hullo, I'm very new to this and I am not very savy with computer/ android lingo...I'm tryin to download the "update.zip" file and it redirects me to another site called multiupload. From there I can choose from more than one engine to download but they are all "rs_n5ibjyo1x4". Is this the right site? And download?
Yes these are all different "servers sites" in which the file is hosted from. Click on any of them and it will take you to the download section, you will need to choose "Free download or slow download" unless you have a paid account with one of these server sites to access the "Fast or Normal download". The filename, yes the name given to the file when its uploaded to the server. Its only for the server purposes, the actual file when downloaded and saved on your computer will be "update.zip".

having problems installing manual updates. in recovery mode hitting the home key will not select. it just goes black and when hit again goes back to prev screen. clicking the camera button does select.

i would get an error install. "Error in sdcard" install would abort.
Sorry about that, typo on my part on the Home key. Next, on the error in sdcard problem, did you leave the "update.zip" file unchanged? Don't rename it or unzip it, just place it in the root directory of your sdcard as is. Next, if that is not your problem then you may have a error on your sdcard. Transfer all your info off your sdcard to your computer, format your sdcard and then replace the information back onto your sdcard and try the update.zip process again.

I am still confused about the Over The Air (OTA) Update for 2.2. I seemed to have missed the window for updating OTA. Is there a ETA for it to be back on OTA download? Tks, David
No further information has been provided on reinstating the OTA/OTW download of Froyo EB13. We do have 3 methods available in the first post of this thread for you to download the files needed to complete the update if you choose.

Hey Paul, I tried the windows installer method and had the camera problem, so I used the Odin method to put Eclair back on. Any suggestions on what to try next?
The Camera problem or fix can be resolved by rooting your phone after installing Froyo EB13 and flashing a custom Kernel to fix the problem. The link below is to a custom kernel which will fix those issues plus also give you even better battery life and the option to overclock your phone (optional) if you choose to do so.

Successfully ran the manual update on a stock phone with DI18. I have the camera sports mode force close issue (about which I don't care at all) but no other problems that I can find. Lost nothing, everything worked like a charm. Thanks paul627g!

Could you give me the detailed steps please..

thank you,

1. Download the "update.zip" provided in the first page of this thread.

2. Take that update.zip just like it is when you downloaded it and place it on the root directory of your sdcard.

3. Make sure your battery is charged up.

4. shut down your phone then press and hold "Volume Down+Camera+Power" button for a few seconds and you will boot into Stock Recovery mode. This is identifiable by blue text with black background.

5. Scroll down (Volume up/Volume down buttons) to "apply sdcard:update.zip"

6. Select this option by pressing Camera or Home Key (I always forget which one)

7. The installation will begin, just sit back and watch and when all is finished it will reboot into Froyo EB13.

A factory reset fixed this on mine. Actually, "Sport mode" went away and I now have "Action shot".

Really? Are you sure? I understood this problem to be a mistake in the programming code for the camera, which I wouldn't think just a factory reset could fix...can you verify you don't have a Sport Mode?

I too have "action shot" and no "sport mode" wonder how that happened. none of the other modes Force Close.

Action shot and sports mode are 2 different things. You can access the sports mode by opening the camera, hit the settings button, tap scene mode, sports, OK.

...and so, WHEN you get the force close with the Sports mode, if the screen goes black and nothing seems to work, hold down the volume, power and camera buttons to do a warm restart, and don't do that again.

Let me correct this procedure just a bit.

Soft Reset/Reboot (Volume up+Camera+Power)

The above saved you from having to pull the battery and where out your connections, and also you back case covering which the snaps will wear out eventually from taking it on and off.

Paul, I feel like such a noob, I can't figure how to install the Genocide Kernel. I tried to download ClockWorkMod Rom Manager app and got
"An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" XDA forums won't let me ask questions. You've been pretty helpful thus far can you teach me a few things so I can I get this kernel you suggested.

Are you rooted?

well I've done the froyo 2.2.1 update through all 3 methods... I also used Odin to put Eclair back on my phone I still got the camera error. I followed the step by step instructions to do that. Paul told me about the Genocide Kernel which sounds awesome and I'd be willing to try to put it on my Epic. I heard some folks in the XDA forum say they were flashing using CWM, I had to research what that even stood for. And so when I download the app for CWM Rom Manager I got that error message. I am not sure if I rooted or not, but I've interested in learning. I just need some step by step instructions. I am a noob.

How much longer will you be on.I'm out right now so I can't do much to help

Ah! In that case, yes, there is a "Sports Mode" under settings. Not under the "Shooting Mode" button on the left menu. Selecting "Sports Mode" under Settings - Scene Mode does result in a force close.

This is great! I am now on froyo and its very nice, but as it is with a lot of other epics out there, my sports sceene in camera mode force closes too...but I'm not bummed about it 'cause I don't use that scene. Although, I am curious about "the cool new wallpaper" that my epic is supposed to have 'cause it didn't receive it on the upgrade...how many and what scenes are they? ...just curious...
