Static noise with headphones

Hello,

I get static noise when I plug in specific pairs of headphones into my HTC one m8. When I try them with my other devices, I don't hear any static noises. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there something wrong with my device? Thanks.

So not every pair of headphones does this on the M8? And the ones that do, don't have static on other devices?

When you hear the static, does twisting or pushing the plug in harder do anything, for better or worse?

@Mooncatt is going in the right direction with this. IF you answer yes to the questions what might be happening is you have loose ground (or other) wire inside the connector of your headphones. When your plugging them in or wiggling the wire around the base of the plug, the static noise your hearing is the cable touching the metal inside its housing.

Pretty much. If the headphones are old, the wire could just be worn out. That would cause static by bending the wire but not moving the plug.

If the static is affected by twisting the plug, or pushing it harder into the jack, that could be one of three possibilities. The plug could be loose/worn out (happens on the same headphones, regardless of device plugged into), the jack is bad (could happen on all headphones, but some may have a little longer/thicker plug that compensates just enough to make enough contact), or could be pocket lint (same symptoms as a bad jack).

A note about the pocket lint. A single strand of fuzz that you can't see in the jack can cause static. I'm speaking from experience when I say this is possible. Lol. Using something like a toothpick or paper clip to fish around *GENTLY* inside could pull it out. Not sure about the M8, but my last phone loved to eat pocket lint in the jack.
