Still can't decide between V30 and Samsung S8+ anyone on here tired both?

I like the Note 8 and what it has to offer, but yes -
  1. That finger scanner is so horribly placed. I can't believe some engineers in a room thought that was a good idea way up at the top, and next to the camera.
  2. The edge screen makes me dizzy. Almost like i'm drunk. Or the screen is wet. Just really bothers me.

Depends what you want from a phone? If its for the cameras then the Samsung probably beats it. The screen is marginally better on the S8 too. Ergonomics on the V30 are better, less bloat, headphone audio is insanely good and the fingerprint/home button is where it should be. The wide angle lens is very useful too.

Im not sure I would buy an S8 this close to Christmas. The S9 will be out in about 3-4 months.

I have tried both. I recommend the V30 for the following reasons:

V30 has a more comfortable feel, curves aren't too much therefore using and holding the phone feels better and natural. Fingerprint scanner is more naturally placed in the center VS somewhere far where it's hard to reach. The V30 screen looks bigger because it's not actually super skinny and narrow like the S8+. The S8+ indeed has a better single camera, both front and rear. However, the V30 has a 16MP so when you zoom/crop, you can see more detail and it's something I notice (but some people don't). Also the V30 has a useful wide angle camera, very fun to use. The microphone is much better since they have 3 microphones on it and video recording software is more advanced. The DAC is a plus, music sounds much better and clearer, it's noticable. I'm not biased because I've been using Samsung phones for many years including the S8+. It all comes down to preference from here, if you're okay with the awkward shape of the S8+, then go for it because it's a great phone. Bixby is actually pretty good and useful.

Agreed, the S9 is rumored to have a centered fingerprint scanner which is more convenient.

I've still got both the Note 8 and the V30. I had the S8+ for 5 months prior to upgrading to the Note.

I think given what you said about the edge bothering you, you know the answer. Personally I love the edge. On the Note, it's far less pronounced, but I loved it on the S8+.

The call quality is about the same on Band 12 LTE (Voice over LTE for T-Mobile). The V30 is the only one of the two to support T-Mobile's latest band for rural areas, but since you're on AT&T, that won't matter.

I've had more weird Bluetooth issues with the V30. It sometimes randomly disconnects from me car (2017 Golf R), my Beats X headset, and my Bose QC35s. So I do think it has less stable Bluetooth than the Samsung.

Batter life on the V30 is better, particularly standby time. The screen on the S8+ is somewhat nicer, but the V30 is more than good enough.

If you like audio and have good headphones, the V30 has no competition in the market.

For instant photos where you don't have time to think, just quickly pull out the phone and snap a photo, the Samsung wins every time. If you have a bit more time, you can get better shots out of the V30.

The only other complaint I have about the V30 is that it feels extremely light. Too light for me, but I'm putting a heavy case on it to make up for that (Spiegen Tough Armor).

Yes you are correct. It appears that everyone in the technology field has totally forgotten that these things we spend good money on are called Smart PHONES! First and foremost the darn thing needs to work reliability as....... Surprise... A Phone. I sometimes think I'm the only person that actually depends on it as a phone first, then after that almost any priced phone will take pictures, check emails, play games. But if your phone has no signal and you stuck someplace alone, well I guess you can take pretty pictures of the place you stuck abandoned at :)

I definitely agree with you! I've noticed signal strength differs for me in specific areas depending on which phone I use. Same carrier, same place, different phone... So signal strength and reliability are important!

I agree, I have had the S8+ and the V20 and they both had a so-so signal. Which is why I am now trying the V30, so far it has been pretty good! It is a lot smoother than the V20!

I've had both the international unlocked s8+ and now the v30 on AT&T, and I can tell you I absolutely do not miss the bad fingerprint sensor or having to disable the bixby button and software. otherwise, the phones are very very close. I'd be happy with either. I like the v30 a bit more with the dual camera set-up

Have you seen the renders? It looks better placed but still way to close to the camera for my liking.

Other than the screen (blue shift) I'd take the V30 every day. Better standby battery, better FPS, better size, the DAC!

The Samsung does have the better screen though so bear that in mind.

isn't there a rumor that the S9 may be released in January?

I had the S8+ and now using the V30. Samsung has a bigger screen and bigger battery. Nicer screen to me. Back cameras are a toss up but the V30 has a wide angle. FFC is Samsung all the way. Better fingerprint location on V30. The Quad dac is awesome if you listen to music on the V30. I really liked using Samsung Pay

I have the S8+, not thrilled with the 18:9 ratio, the curved edges, built-in battery, etc. Only got it because of the Black Friday's deal at Best Buy. It's so totally not worth the retail price. 400 - maybe? 800, def not.

The bluetooth between my V30 and 2009 Ford F150 works very good.

I bought the Samsung S9 (nine) before the V30. I didn't like the sound quality of the calls so I quickly returned it to Verizon. Perhaps I didn't give it enough of a chance.

Been comparing both the AT&T V30 AND AT&T S8+, reading reviews, watching YouTube videos, and it seems like the opinions are split almost 50/50 on these 2 phones. Anyone on here actually owned both or used both phones? I know I can swap them out within the 14 day period, just was looking for opinions from regular users not just reviews from Android sites. Thanks.

Yes, I did. They are both great devices. The s8+ has a slight edge in screen quality. But really unnoticeable unless you've got them together. I chose the V30 for it's unsurpassed audio that no other phone and even some DAPS can't match. Plus the V30 is more ergonomic.
