Struggle to transfer files using USB connection

Howdy all,

I just got the Galaxy S10+ and want to connect it to my windows 10 computer and upload all the pictures from the phone to the computer. I can do this. but if I select multiple files it will sometimes work, sometimes start to work and then hang and become unresponsive, and sometimes just not work at all. Is there an issue with using the windows 10 explorer to manage files on the android device?

I have various thumb drives, not sure what OTG is specifically.

Okay, just looked it up, on-the-go, as in you can hook the usb drive directly to your phone. I had one for the Galaxy S4, which I used up until the S8 came out, but it is Micro-USB, not USB-C and I haven't had a need so I haven't tried it with an adapter.

You shouldn't have any problem with Windows 10 - I transfer files back and forth all the time. But if you're trying to upload hundreds of megs of files (or more) at one time, the USB chip in the PC will overheat and stop. Either transfer them by wifi (WiFi File Transfer works) or by some means other than USB (like Bluetooth). (USB was a bit of an improvement over the previous standard, RS-232C, but the chips don't take massive file transfers. [They're wither tiny chips, or part of the SoC in the phone, and can't dissipate all that heat quickly.])

But whichever way you do it, if it's a lot of files, it's going to take time. Even if you had gigabit wifi, the phone can't go that fast.
