SW Version LS670ZVD?

Looking to do this when I get home later tonight (updating to VD that is). Just wanted to know if I could get any opinion from you as to the validity of the method I mentioned in this post:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...s/66736-sw-version-ls670zvd-4.html#post700943

Thanks in advance.

I already answered your other post, as I did the exact same thing. Look two posts below your original post. That is how I did it. LG reboots your phone at the end of it's update, once I could get adb to notice the phone, I fired an 'adb reboot recovery', and then proceeded to bring my phone back to its previous rom state.

If you have a custom recovery, why would you need to re-root the new OS, if you plan on flashing something in it's place, either a rom or a nandroid?

For anyone that went back to nROM/TR after updating to this: Does the wireless hotspot feature still work? In other words, is the exploit that was used ROM level or Radio level?
Thanks :)

Haven't tried, but it's probably a kernel-level exploit. Try it and share your results

Soooo.....If I have CM7 right now, is there any reason for me to go back to one of the VC-based ROMs...update, reroot, and reflash CM7?

If VD doesn't update radio, (which it must not do, since you can update while still using CWMA recovery), then is any of VD carried over to CM7??

Thanks (and my apologies if my assumptions above are off....)

After I updated to VD, I Flashed nROM and my Android version went back to 2.2.1, and my Baseband went back to MVC, but my SW Version is still at ZVD. Is this normal? Thanks!

Yes, that is completely normal.

Radio and Recovery are two separate things here. VD does in fact update radio. The reason you are told to update VD while having CWMA recovery installed is because when you installed the recovery kernel, you deleted install-recovery.sh, therefore the updater doesn't flash a new recovery kernel. It is probably a good idea to go back to a VC-based ROM, update, re-root and reflash CM7, as I've noticed big reception gains with the VD radio.

I would be willing to bet that if you deleted install-recovery.sh from a rooted VC BEFORE updating to VD (with the V9 recovery kernel of course), you could use the VC rooting method.

Fantastic...I thought for sure that the V9 -> VC needed a complete return to stock because the new radio would torch the phone with the custom recovery. In any case, can't wait to get home. Thanks!

(And AMAZING work having a rooting guide out within hours of the update release....you have VD rooted before Sprint even told anyone they were putting it out!)

I was going to update to vc tonight guess I won't be for a while now

Nvm just found a guide might still wait a day or so to make sure no horrible problems surface

Is it possible to just delete "install-recovery.sh" while running Thunderc recovery, then do the update or is CWMA still needed?

Probably. Try it and post your findings. The thing about that is you will then need to root the VC way.

IMO it's much easier to flash CWMA, update to VD, and simply copy su/busybox/Superuser.apk to the system.

Not to mention the fact that you need to be rooted anyway to delete install-recovery.sh, so you might as well flash a custom recovery while you're at it.

I am rooted and running RA-thunderc-1.1.0-GNM. i guess my question is, can I keep the custom recovery that I have and still update to VD? Just curious.

The nice thing about the builtin Portable WiFi hotspot option is it worked in AP mode.

Now that LG/Sprint has made this not an option with the VD update, what are people using for WiFi Tether in AP mode. Wireless Tether for Root Users apparently works in ad-hoc mode unless your kernel is recompiled with SOFTAP enabled. Are there kernels for Optimus S that have that included?

Ad-hoc mode isn't nearly as flexible as AP mode since many devices don't have options to connect in ad-hoc mode, only offering options to connect to APs.

yes i would like to know this as well because right now im having a very hard time trying to flash the xionia custom recovery:mad:

I flashed VD via LG updater to 3 phones with thunderc-1.2-GNM on them without a problem.
cant see why 1.1 would be different, made a clean nand back up and everything from the recovery after I flashed everything worked good.

Go for it

Things are a little easier than you think

If people are going to just update their radio and return to any custom rom that is already rooted, and not run the stock OS that LG puts on with the update, there is NO reason to re-root.

You will still have your custom recovery, so you can fire 'adb reboot recovery' from the command prompt, and then restore the nandroid that you should have made before you started the whole process, or flash a new VC or probably coming soon VD based ROM.

So for most of us, this new update was simply a radio update. Albeit, a little bit longer than just flashing a radio, but still a radio upgrade, presumably.

I was told that a nandroid made with v9 wouldn't work with a different baseband I guess if anything does go wrong you could just flash another rom after wiping data right?

I'm still trying to understand how this all works. So when the radio gets updated, the phone will become unrooted? And that's why I have to follow the Guide to Rooting Software Version LS670ZVD?

I'm currently on V9 and I want to upgrade to VD. I'm just trying to follow what you're saying here, simon.ponder...

EDIT:

I guess this is what I wanted to know.

So... out of curiosity, can anyone else do a PRL update or a profile update since updating to VD?

Could anyone check to see if 3G and WIFI work together on VD? When one is running and you turn on the other it shuts the first one down.
