Swapping Thunderbolts resets contract date

Two days ago I returned and replaced one of my Thunderbolt phones. I was just checking some information on line and noticed that the "upgrade eligible date" was pushed out to be 10 months (1 year contract) from when I received a replacement TB, not from when I first bought the TB.

Does getting a replacement phone due to a fault reset the contract/eligibility date?

It shouldn't. I had my Storm2 swapped in Nov, and I was still eligible to upgrade in Dec.
 
they tried to do this to me numerous times when they replaced my bb tour and bold. when you tell them about the "error" they correct it.
