T-mobile $30 Unlimited data, Text, 100Min Voice

Good luck! Report back with how it goes. A lot of us are very curious about this plan.

I hope T-Mobile doesn't have a data proxy location like VM does. We all know the only reason why that proxy system is there in Kansas is to slow down everyone's 3G so VM can be cheap and prevent the entire system from overloading.

T-Mobile got me free overnight shipping on the SIM card so it should arrive within 1 to 2 days. ( Thank you for excellent service! VM would take two weeks.)

How did you get free overnight shipping?

And how can a sim card be tied to a particular plan? When you order online you don't select a plan, you do that once you receive and activate the sim card. Perhaps they meant you can't use a post-paid sim card for a pre-paid plan, and vis versa.

I believe I got the shipping because I already had a SIM card and I was upset in not understanding why they couldn't have generated an activation code and read it over the phone to be used with the card I already had. There's no reason why it has to be a different SIM card honestly.

I would think that they could have activated the existing card over the phone. It's not like I'm trying to get then to activate an AT&T SIM card or something that was five years old. It's not my fault the stores don't have the right cards.

They literally had different boxed activation kits that had a label for $30 1500 mins / 30 MB and another for $70 unlimited.

There seems to be a provisioning issue with the internet of this plan. A lot of people in Howard Forums reported that they are not able to access HTTPS sites, including Facebook, Twitter, and Android Market. The new plan seems to have some growing pains. I suggest people wait till everything is ironed out. I just hope that it'll get fixed soon, because I already forked the money for this month! :)

I will use this with a mytouch 3G until eventually I'll switch to an SGS or iPhone.

At this point, anything to throw VM out the window. My speed test for today was "2110ms ping - 80 down - 264 up", what am I paying for?

3G means 3G. Not 2G not 1x and certainly not 0.5x.

The nearby Sprint tower either stinks or is too far. Either way, it stinks.

Just so you know, an Iphone will ONLY get Edge speeds on T-Mobile.
Doesn't matter the Iphone model, they don't have the radio in them to go faster. In other words, pass on that. If your Mytouch is not a T-mobile phone or compatible phone, it too will either only get Edge or may not work period.

This is partly why BYOD is so screwy, it's not as simple as people want it to be.

before i buy it. i want to know. it says " first 5GB at up to 4G Speeds" i might get a lg optimus t or mytouch 3g slide ( don't want a big 'come steal me' type phone" but those are 3G speeds. will i get 3G or EDGE?

I'm completely aware of the EDGE speeds on unlocked phones. I'm considering buying a used iPhone because i've been using the iPod touch since iOS 1.

The mytouch is just a line of phones rebranded for T-Mobile like how Verizon has Droids. The phone is an HTC Sapphire (528 Mhz CPU) with T-MOBILE logo on it.
It's not capable of T-Mobile's full 4G speed but it works (sort of). Anyway this would only be temporary because I could switch phones when ever.

EDIT:

same speeds just no HTTPS

WHAT? Where did you hear that from? There are apps that can't work without secure HTTPS / SSL

Good advice me thinks. I'll be watching these forums and the ones over at HoFo to see how this plays out. I'm definitely still interested in this plan, but I want a straightforward switch with no surprises. For now, my ONLY gripe about VM is the 3G speeds. But the hope of a much better phone is another draw to T-Mobile (Galaxy S 4G, LG G2X, etc).

But I wont make any moves until its clear what I need to do, what caveats there are (if any), and see how network performance actually fairs in real world use on this plan.

Nope 611 didn't fix it. I'm thinking it has to be escalated to a higher level of tech support. Hopefully we get enough complaints that they'll do something about it.

Some Apps do not work as well. Though surprisingly ESPN Fantasy Football app does work, so I can keep track of how much I'm losing by. :)

what apps arent working that you have found?

This might be location based too. With full bars here in Michigan, my 3G is not nearly as fast as when I had full bars in Flagstaff, Arizona while visiting my girlfriend. I'm not sure why. I do have the Sprint 22081 PRL.

Facebook, Twitter, Android Market, Gmail, Chrome to Phone, AMEX app, Foursquare, any app that requires you to log in really.

Though for some reason, Groove IP works.

Pretty weird since it's supposedly the same network as their "postpaid/contract" one.

Well if you look at any of the coverage maps it shows "T-Mobile No Contract Service Area". I wonder if it's different from the contact coverage.

My SIM card will delivered (if not already) by the end of the day today so I hope that HTTPS issue gets resolved soon. It's unacceptable that they don't allow the secure connection web yet. How is anyone supposed to use the internet? It's not t-zones either. I couldn't find anything on other sites about issues with T-Mobile prepaid and HTTPS or any other type of secure connection.
