T-mobile $30 Unlimited data, Text, 100Min Voice

Agreed, especially since the $25/month plan isn't even available anymore, so if we don't keep the account active it's gone forever...I've been using Google Voice for a really long time now, so I very few people have my VM number (I give out my GV number more often), so I wouldn't need to port my number, and I could probably go under 100 minutes, but for $5 more and less minutes the data better be extremely good...even though I have wifi and use that anyways...

I wish I had ported to GV while the $25 plan was still active. Cause one of the downsides for me is, as long as I keep my current plan, I'll never be able to use GV. I don't want to change my number, so I'm stuck.

For me, that would be a bonus perk if I DID ultimately switch.

Do they not give out free GV numbers anymore? I mean I know almost two years ago (or more) I got google voice, so I got a free number, or I could port.

Johnp: what are your up/down speeds and where do you live? Care to run a speed test for us?

I'll let you guess which one is which! :) This was a no brainer! Loving the G2X. Port process is a bit slow, at 40 hour since request and nothing yet.

Does anyone know if T-mobile works better or worse indoors than Sprint?

It's been about 10 years since I've had Tmob and it didn't really work well inside but I assume things have improved.

I'd say better indoors. Also Wimax 4G [almost] never maintains a signal indoors.

Went into a T-Mobile store today to check out some of their handsets, and also to run a 4G speedtest. Before I went in the store, I ran a speedtest on my OV and got my typical ~400kbps down. Ran speedtest on a Samsung Galaxy S 4G... right around 7.8mbps down. I was like, holy... Even if they have a repeater in the store, and I've no reason to think they do, that is incredible. If I ended up with a third of that speed I'd be thrilled.

Not jumping on board yet though. I want to see what happens with the release of the Exhibit II 4G. Gotta wait for some reviews on that thing. The AT&T merger still makes me nervous though. Today it was reported that Big Blue and T-Mobile will be sitting down with the Department of Justice to discuss selling off some assets from both to MetroPCS to try to persuade the DoJ to let the merger happen. "Assets" being bandwidth, infrastructure, and customers as well.

Update, took 49 hours to port number from VM to GV. As expected, text messaging isn't working. I can text out, just can't receive. Wifi calling works great with GrooveIP. 4G is good about 1/2 the time, so think I'm going to pass on that. If I use Wifi when I can I think I'll easily stay under the 100 minutes. Thus far I'm pretty happy with this set up. Well worth the extra $5 a month, even if I have some overage, and the GV port will make it easier to take advantage of these offers that require a new line.

Let us know how long it takes before incoming texts go live. Glad to here pretty much everything else is working as expected.

You don't get a number from groove IP, you get a number from google voice. You log into your google voice account from groove IP and make calls that way

k sry im novice with gv, ill make a separate thread so i can figure this out :]

Porting from VM to GV took 23 hours for me. Text on the other hand took about 2 days. Had the T-Mobile plan since 10/16 so its been 8 days and I've only used 10 out of 100 minutes. :)

Final update, text started working this morning. 6 days after initiating port.

One bit of advice, the email that confirmed the port indicated it could take up to 3 business days for text to work. So, to minimize downtime I would reccomend initiating the port early in the week.

I have a optimus t on tmobile running on the prepaid plan. I noticed youtube slowed down significantly almost impossible to watch vids so I downloaded the speedtest app from market n averaged 0.12 up and 0.12 down... Now I havent called to turn off web guard yet so could that be whats slowing my 3g down?

That's absolutely atrocious. Call tech support. Get that straightened out.

The new Samsung Exhibit II 4G is here! $199! Specs are lower than originally anticipated (1GHz/3MP vs 1.4GHz/5MP), but this phone seriously puts VM in a position to consider some price drops on the Wildfire and Triumph. It definitely outspecs (sans camera rez) the Wildfire in every department at the same price. And it arguably matches the Triumph (sans camera again, and the .3" less screen that may actually be an asset to some) for $100 less.
I'm excited to see some initial reviews on this handset.
