Because it's a newer chipset I'm not that disappointed (just short of jumping off the roof). But what does worry me is if it will meet the hardware limitations for Gingerbread. I know the 1Ghz minimum was just a rumor, AND it would be stupid of HTC to release a phone not capable of making the upgrade in a few months, but still.... I'm worried.

They had the chance to release a phone to blow everyone out of the park, instead it looks like they cut a few corners. But I'll wait to see benchmarks and what people who've played with one have to say. But it almost looks like I may be heading for a Vibrant soon...
It could be worse, it could have the specs of the Bold 9700. Regardless, this phone will be a nice upgrade for those of us who were suckered into latest gen Blackberrys and for those upgrading from the original G1. And for those not sold on the G2, there's always the MyTouch HD and the new Sidekick with Android coming down the pipe.

Next the device appears under-clocked since the official Qualcomm statements refer it to support 800mhz-1ghz stable. I imagine it was done to save battery. Someone will start a kernal to clock it to 1ghz soon. no worries just have to root it.
The phone will be fast in either scenario.

Yeah I'm upgrading from a Pearl Flip 8220, so a cup with a string attached is a huge upgrade for me. I'm just still hurt from when RIM promised us OS 5.0 and "flipped" us the finger at the last moment.
If these specs are at least competitive with Galaxy S and HTC promises that we will have the hardware for the next Android, this will be the phone I'm getting. Take those away and it will probably be a Vibrant.

I'm in a similar boat. I had to get rid of my 8120. I used and abused that thing. Bought the 9700 because it was supposed to get os 5.2 (now OS6). OS5 is ok, OS6 is straight garbage. The phone works, but everything else about the 9700 blows. I need a device that's going to be last me more than a year. If the G2 is not going to be able to upgrade to Honeycomb, I'll go with the Vibrant even though I'd rather have a physical QWERTY.

I currently have a 9700... I'm looking at the Vibrant... now the G2... and the MyTouch HD will coming in November according to TMONews.com. I'm going to consider them all and hopefully see some side by side comparison test, speed tests and consider who has the best screen, on-board memory, processor speed, camera and maybe a couple other factors here and there. I'll be waiting until November to make up my mind. If I needed or had to buy one right now I would not have a problem buying the Vibrant.
