T-Mobile: Galaxy Note 9 Pre-Order Thread

Well your one lucky guy. I've been with T-Mobile for over 14 years now myself. I've called a few times myself and even on Twitter and Facebook chats and no luck. What did you say to them to get them credit you $180? I guess it does take the call and the right time. I can try to again later but I'm sure I'll get the same results,, no.
I just tried again a few minutes ago. Still chatting with them, actually. No dice. She said I will be at 3 years on 8/30 and to contact them again after that. I told her that there was no assurance that I would qualify. Unless she knows something I don't. Maybe that was the only factor keeping me from the low down payment.
They gave the same line about trying to keep payments low while still allowing everyone to upgrade after 30 days. I said that doesn't affect me or most anyone else because I typically only upgrade once a year. With the high down payments, no one else will be dumb enough to use it either that soon.
I also added what's needed is a simple JUMP program that allows variable down payments and allows you to upgrade after half is paid off. Is this that difficult to pull off? If you planned on keeping your phone for a year, maybe you you put down $100. If you plan to upgrade after 6 months, maybe put down $200 or more. You're in control. Simple.

I got the same results as you, it's like they want to lose customers.
Like I said before, they hooked a lot of new customers with JOD, myself included. Now, they probably just hope people are too lazy to change carriers.
They asked if I'm happy with T-mobile a minute ago. Seriously? I hope they forward my "concerns" to someone else that will listen.

The thing about that is most people won't be honest about how long they want to keep the phone and some honestly don't know. Guess that's the gamble you take having certain carriers.

You chatting on the phone? Twitter or Facebook chat?

Sad thing is, the price is tough to beat. Service isn't necessarily hard to beat. I know where I am Verizon is better most places and works just fine in the building I work in. At this point I probably won't be getting any more phones from T-Mobile. I don't plan on upgrading very often.

This is what aggravates me. I thought Sprint and T-mobile were merging? Who wouldn't upgrade for $20 per month. Too bad Sprint has such horrible service.

Pending merge sure. Not confirmed.
Timing not good for T-mo customers. That's for sure.
There is no decision to make when you can get a Note9 with zero money down and under $21 a month. The un-carrier is just that. But, now it's a bad thing. Being outdone by everyone on this pre-order. I hope when they have their meetings in the next couple days to see how the launch went, they choke on how low pre-order sales are. Honestly, it's not rocket science. Someone would be losing their jobs in similar circumstances.
The worst part is, they had almost a year to put the details of the new JOD plan in place and this is what they decided on.

Its like I said a few days ago - Tmobile went all in balls to the wall with all that stuff they did 2 or 3 years ago and all of us were like "Haha look at this all these other carriers suckkkk" and now its literally almost reversed.

The mobile industry is still very, very lopsided with a bunch of greedy CEO's who at the end of the day (and yes John Legere is just as guilty as everyone else) only care about the bottom line. And I mean, we only have ourselves to blame for loving this tech and wanting to upgrade to all these different devices. Its crazy how when you think about it its like we go and spend $1500 on a computer and we keep it for 3-4 years probably but literally $1000 phones are coming out left and right, prices are going higher and higher and we're all just like "YESSS GIVE ME THAT!!!" I mean, shoot I know I'm guilty of it - I KNOW without any doubt I'm gonna be intrigued by the S10 next year, and the Galaxy X (if that happens) after that...and so on and so forth.

These companies have got us man....they've just effing got us.

They did what I predicted. Went hard to get customers, got them, and now are calming way down on "deals" because at the end of the day they are a business and what do businesses care about? $$$$$

I keep my phones for 2 years

I'm kind of thinking of doing a preorder because I broke my Note 8 last night. The trade in sounds good since I have a S7 Edge but that deal is for 24 months and all I would need to pay today is the tax and shipping.

I've always paid for my phones outright so I may just end up buying from BestBuy where I can buy the unlocked model.

If I can find a good deal, I may end up just buying another Note 8 but BestBuy has barely discounted them.

I'll try and decide sometime this week.

T-Mobile actually started the phone payment craze that everyone inevitably followed. Not to mention the option to upgrade before 2 years. When they started payment options it wasn't zero down. I remember the S4 being 200 down for best credit with payments monthly. Like it or not T-Mobile starts a trend which the carriers later on follow. Wouldn't be surprised if other carriers stop doing 0 down on phones 1,000+ at some point as well.

nobody at the end of the day is going to be happy, I actually think things are better now.. you can upgrade and swap phones more often back in the days you will have to stay with the phone or either pay it off / wait 2 years for a new device

Agreed. Obviously all carriers are greedy corporations who are trying to appease their shareholders. But before T-Mobile did the uncarrier stuff you were stuck with a phone for 2 years. Now, I've been upgrading every six months. Can't complain!

Heh, yeah same here. It recently occurred to me that I could try out the iPhoneX for a month if I wanted to. Not sure I could give up my Samsung phone for that long though...
