T-Mobile LG G3 5.0.1 3/31 LGMobile Support Tool

There's some talk going around that the Support Tool will only work for the Black Version of the phone right now.

From Reddit and XDA "You can only use the LG Mobile Support Tool right now on the BLACK version of the phone, the white version can't even get past update recovery"

Anyone having the Google play services error that happened with some of the other models? How are your fixing it? I tried to update using the apk but it didn't work.

I do that and I get a message that says "Check out your model and serial number"... No help from Google on that cryptic error message.

How strange. Hopefully they fix this. How much of a difference is there between the white and black models?

Literally, just the color and the model name. The internals and software are exactly the same between the two.

I asked the same thing on XDA. Here's what I was told.

Technically different model numbers (D851TN = Black, D851WH = White). The source code that came out earlier was technically only released in the black model, and I'm guessing the support tool is hitting the same damn wall right now.

So how come no one will let us MAC users in on the secret...that you have to use and only use a WIN machine...this is beyond stupid...no LG Tool available that I can find...Ive used Google to no ends...and to be honest, why is the LG G3 just getting v5.0.1??? Seriously, they really want us to root, don't they, they really do. I mean v5.1 is out and they can't get us on that after waiting? Looks like I have to take the dive into rooting..or wait for the LG G4 and then root that one even though it comes with v5.1 out of the box...

Its rather quite stupid, these game OEM and Google play on us for hundreds of dollars...

Wait for the OTA. And it only works for the black version, not white.

Just finished updating to Lollipop. A couple of issues, first there was a message to update Google Play Services. I followed the instructions on this link to update it and now I don't get the notification.

Second issue is that I can't send text messages. I use Textra as my default app but I also tried it on the stock app and the messages are not sent. I'll have to look into this now.

I have the black version but I could not find the OS X version of the app...it's for windows only...there is a LG PC Suite but that's not it from what I know? Unless I'm mistaken I will wait for the OTA..its still sad that Lolipop 5.1 is out and we're only getting 5.0.1...I would've thought that we would get the newest available version...that's all.

No matter what I do my black D851 will not update via LG tool even when choosing upgrade recovery option. I am on 10r stock never rooted.

Wi-Fi calling was disabled (I guess because of the update), enabled it and now I can send text messages.

When I originally updated, I thought I had the same problem you did, but I ran a test with my brother's phone, and I was sending, the phone just wasn't showing that it was. I just had to wait a few minutes before it was, almost seemed like SMS was at the bottom of the boot list.

Edit: added quote.

@askdes on Twitter says OTA will be available on April 7 (I asked if this included white but he didn't respond yet)

I just did the update. Google play services said it needed to update. I went to the apps section in my settings, cleared the cache and data, uninstalled the updates, then re-installed and it updated on its own. Other than that no problems, wifi calling and texting work great.
