T-Mobile LTE and my Nexus 4

Its tons of threads about users using lte just fine and guess what its still on 4.2.2. To the op lte works just fine on the n4 T-Mobile is bringing out lte on the frequency it runs on.

The Nexus 4 will never officially run on tmobiles Lte. Anyone that is running it on 4.2.2 has flashed the old radios, because the new ones have Lte disabled as required by the FCC.

Here is the fact. Nexus 4 as we know sells officially by tmobile. And it had to go through testing by FCC. FCC done testing it on tmobiles network and passed it as well as other networks(not particularly for lte because none of US carriers have it for sale) . But it doesn't matter. At the time of testing FCC couldn't test LTE on nexus 4 because tmobile wasn't ready. So it is possible that Google and Tmobile agreed with fcc to do further testing for lte after tmobile official lte deployment. Meanwhile google disabled lte through the software. Would it be a reasonable explanation why n4 got functional lte but its been disabled for aahh network interferences.. Or FCC order.

Did note 2 get lte enabled by software update?

Well, until today no US carrier offered Band 4LTE. T-Mobile rolled it out today, and now plenty of people are making it work.

I think you're the only person in this thread who has actually answered the OP's first question. Good job :)

Yeah

The note 2 did. T-Mobile also has made it very publicly known that the note supported lte.

Do me a favor and go look at the list of handsets tmobiles network will support for lte. The Nexus is not, nor will it ever be, one of them.

The lte was disabled because the Nexus 4 is not certified to access it, and Google and LG will not be submitting it for recertification. By not locking it, Google was technically violating the law by allowing devices to access a network which they were not certified by the FCC to have access to.

Is solavei's lte bandwith compatible with te nexus 4's radio capabilities?

Solavei uses T-Mobile, so yes, it is (or will be) Nexus 4 compatible if you enable the LTE.

Solavei doesn't currently (officially) offer LTE and there are mixed reports about success getting on LTE with the Solavei sim.

The Solavei support response is that as soon as T-Mobile rolls out LTE to their MVNO's they will offer it. It's a matter of when, not if according to them.

Might there be a walk through on re-enabling the LTE option on the N4 after the 4.2.2 update? I can flash the old radio easily enough and access the hidden radio options menu but I read that the APN must be edited in order for it to stick and the person who stated this didn't go into any useful detail. Heck, I couldn't even make phone calls after I flashed the old radio so I'm wondering if that had to do with the APN setting as well.

Thanks

Sorry, I'm no help on that. I've read some of what you're talking about and it's a bit beyond me. One thing it seemed like on the XDA thread was people were having a lot of problems with the .33 radio with 4.2.2 on T-Mobile, and some seemed to have better success with the .27 radio. (I'm still running 4.2.1, and am hoping the next release will officially support LTE - silly of me because I don't live in an LTE area, but that's beside the point...)

The program screen is still available with 4.2.2.

The lte onoff "thunderbolt" app works as well.

But only wcdma sticks. Or no lte in Los Angeles yet..

I don't think the nexus 4 has all the required hardware for reliable lte service.

I would save your breath. Too many on here still believe deep down that LTE will be enabled someday. Some don't know how FCC certification works either. Trying to explain the facts of the situation will get you no where here, I've tried. Still find it funny the lengths people will go for LTE, I haven't missed it since I left Verizon. Too big of a battery drain for the little I actually need it.

Yes it did

Here is the difference. You won't find this in the Nexus 4's test pages

Never mind link don't work. But here is a pic of one FCC test with LTE before the release of the Note 2 on T-Mobile. So if they were planning on activating LTE on the N4 officially im pretty sure they would have tested it the first time.

So when they do expand am I gonna have to buy a new phone. Will they continue to support and expand the current Hspa+ ?

some people say that google and lg will product new version nexus 4, support LTE.
so if you want experience lte's speed, i suggest you purchase it few month later

That sucks...

LTE will continue to advance, both in terms of network infrastructure and on-device technology to maximize performance and minimize power consumption. As far as I am aware, T-Mobile's LTE rollout is designed to be fully compatible for future LTE-Advanced upgrades. Yes, HSPA+ has advantages as far as power consumption, but it's a better strategy for T-Mobile to focus on one primary network technology, and LTE is the standard with the most momentum and advancement behind it right now.

Plus it's fast. I had the opportunity to use T-Mobile's LTE here in Seattle for a while. It's in a Friendly User Testing phase right now, meaning it's IMEI- and SIM-whitelisted. There were less than a hundred people on the network at the time (so no, this isn't representative of real-world conditions) and I was pulling 40's down and 20's up with considerable distance and interference between me and the tower. I don't usually get even half that on Verizon unless I'm very near to a tower and outside of peak load hours.
