T-Mobile Note 3: Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) update problems and issues thread

Galaxy note 3 9005 model on Vodacom South Africa - checked for update on my phone today, and its busy downloading a 445.25MB update.

I never got a choice to download. I woke up to the update already being installed. Not too please by it. I haven't really had the battery issues but this has been a lazy week, so I have been on my computer more than my phone. My biggest issues are random crashes of apps, lag my Gallery, Facebook freezing, and a black screen.

Trying to find a couple of pictures I took a few weeks back, and I almost punted my phone. Scroll for a second, then freeze for 5. Repeat.

Facebook - it seems to be similar to the Gallery lag/freeze. I am trying to scroll or open a post to comment and the whole thing just hangs. Sometimes, it will come back and act normally. Other times, it goes berserk and I wind up randomly commenting gibberish on a person's post that was so far down the wall I have no idea how I got to it or typed anything without the keyboard showing.

When any of the apps hang, freeze, or crash, I typically get a black screen. I only really can get away from it by pushing the button at the bottom to return me to the home screen. I have tried to get a screenshot but have failed.

After updating my Galaxy Note 3 via the OTA update, I found a bug with Facebook. Where you bring up a people "liked", where it says "So and so and 5 others liked this" or whatever, you can't click on that to see who liked it. I have two Note 3s. The other one is still on android 4.3 and this function works fine. So it's definitely an issue with the update. Checked on a buddy's Nexus with 4.4 and it works fine on his phone. Which leads me to believe it's got something to do with the combination of the 4.4 update on the Note 3. Maybe other Samsung devices. I don't know. I have a Galaxy S3 but it's on 4.3.

Random choppy audio while streaming music or from sd card. It 3 to 4 times per song that I hear a small audio bug. Tried multiple headphones. Loud speaker does it to but is much rarer

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who can't view likes on fb. I'm sure this won't get fixed anytime soon...

The update deleted some of my apps (imdb, whatsapp, weather etc.), and the lock screen doesn?t work properly. It takes a long time to get the phone to open.
I reloaded the apps, but now whatsapp doesn?t work at all. It shuts down all the time.
What to do?

My huge problem after the kitkat update is with the stock email app. My work uses MS Exchange andafter the update whenever I open an email I get the message "Security Policy restricts use of HTML email" and it won't let me forward or reply to any email. I can read the email and download attachments but essentially I can't send email. I didn't have this problem with Jellybean and my company's security policy didn't change. It was the kitkat update. Work email is one of my essentials for a phone. I tried encrypting the phone with a password too and that had no effect. Still getting the message. Can anyone help?

I don't see that anywhere in the app listings

To turn off Google+, go to settings, general, application manager, all. After selecting the app you can hit disable. To turn off Google Now, go to the cards view, and hit the menu button, settings and switch Google Now to off.

Hm.. There seems to be a lot of issues. I am glad I am rooted so my phone couldn't auto update OTA.

Hopefully Samsung will fix these issues soon :(.

I experienced this when I was using BT streaming. This happen since day one when I have the note 3 with 4.3.

Found the issue and fixed it. Not a problem with 4.4.2. Go to more networks and select t-mobile as default network operator and it will do the trick. Now no more issues and kitkat seems to be wonderful again. :)

BEWARE... anybody else receive an over the air UPDATE for the NOTE 3? Did you download it? Is your phone working?
Just FYI I did the update and my screen stays black... you can hear the pen being removed and even answer the phone if you know where to swipe to accept call but the screen stays black... I pull the battery screen comes on but then goes right back to black...

Hold off on your updates until they work the kinks out...

Make sure the update didn't turn anything on that you didn't have on before and also re-enable apps that you had disabled. You'll have to go through everything in the app manager. Turning off Google now and G+ returned me to stellar battery life. Over 6hrs screen on time over a 16hr day.

Also before the update I had lte disabled since it was showing a crappy lte signal. Since the update and increase in lte signal strength I enabled lte. You might try that if you're in an lte area.

No offense bro but your 6 hours screen on time is crap! I used to get 10 hours screen on JellyBean and two+ days of standby! Now I make 5 hours screen on and barely make it through a day of use! What a joke! Also Google Now is the best thing abut Android and I use it a lot! I also use Google Plus a lot but I could live without it, not Google Now. This update is a joke!

I've had it with dealing with this KitKat crap and spending hours and hours of googling trying to get a new $700 phone to work properly these past two weeks when I shouldn't have to do that at all. I'm returning my second Note 3 to T-Mobile tomorrow and getting a 3rd replacement and i'll keep Jelly Bean on it for as long as absolutely farking possible.

I have to say, since the update, then battery drain & subsequent crashing of my phone, after doing the factory reset (which was more than a little annoying), my phone has been working great. GPS still searches a lot but all issues I've had prior to the update & after installing the update are totally cleared up. Would like to know if anyone else did a reset & how their phone is working now.
