Just would like for someone to come up with a way for me to use my G1 as a modem. I upgraded form the Shadow b/c the T-Mobile ppl told me when it first came out I could use this function. Now I love my phone but can't use it to connect my laptop to the net. Anyone who can figure out how to do this for me would have earned their wings & halo in my book.

Hiya Tyger -

Bad news -- I don't know when it's going to come out
Good news -- I don't think it'll be long!

I'm curious what you think WRT the Shadow vs the G1. I really like both phones and they have a similar sort of 'feel' to me, hardware wise. If it weren't for the different operating systems, I'd call the G1 the Shadow's big brother

Has anyone tried PDANet? If so how does it work? I have used this program on my Blackberry and iPhone and it worked great.

Has anyone used PDAnet on Verizon?

I am wondering if anybody has gotten charged. There were horror stories about tetherberry (similar to PDAnet) being used on VZW and people receiving huge bills.

There was never a documented case of large phone bills directly from using either PDAnet or Tetherberry. Just a lot of speculation about what if. Either one, if available for Android, should work just fine. I have used both on WinMo and BB and both work well.

Pda.net works great on my hero. Just don't go crazy and try to download movies and large files.

I use it with my HTC Eris and love it. With my old Treo 755 I paid $10/mo for access and only got to about 940kbs. With PDANet I'm getting 2.4mbs and there's no charge. Not with Verizon anyway. It seems to time out occasionally, but not enough to be a worry. I'd recommend it.

Unfortunately, pdanet doesn't want to co-exist with the HTC Sync driver. Pdanet wanted to remove it during installation so it could install it's own...BUMMER....

Tetherberry for Android, now called simply "Tether" free beta went public tonight. I expect to see an AndroidCentral feature on it tomorrow! I'm typing this message with it right now. Works fine, if a little slow. USB only - no Bluetooth yet. :<

Features will continue to come around for it, have no fears. I have been in contact with the guys over there for a while, they are working very hard on the application and getting it up to par.

EasyTether Lite is available in Android Market for free. For Verizon, T-Mobile and other carriers.

So one would ask that if Google sees the Motorola UI updates as beneficial then why wouldn't they just add this to Vanilla Android?

Yeah, just go to the store and play dumb, say you want to transfer the upgrade from line a (unlimited) to line b(not unlimited) , and activate the phone on line b. If they refuse, just say thanks and go to another store or come back later. Do make sure that they activate it on the non unlimited line though.

Don't mention unlimited or anything...

This is like a while back when you could get unlimited by adding mhs. If you mentioned getting unlimited data, there's a good chance they would deny it. Just play dumb and when they say that you got unlimited, just act a little surprised
