Tethering now free on tiered data plans

In reality, it only assures you the ability to download a tethering app. For us grandfathered unlimited users, I imagine there will be controls in place to force a switch to tiered data if tethering is taking place. Or force a subscription to the mobile hotspot plan.

Just more bs from the fed. You think the fcc actually cares about us? It just wants more money, hence the stupid auction of pretty much "air". The fcc is the boot on technologies throat.

What actually is gonna change? Verizon is pushing everyone on the new plans, which included mhs. I guess the 10 people who were paying for it, 3 of them won't have to pay, and my bill goes up a penny.

Just like Verizon should have gotten in trouble for locking the bootloader, EVERY 4G handset user shouldn't be limited from using any app or device the way they so choose. The 700Mhz spectrum(block C) was sold with the 'open access' clause attached to it. Basically allowing "Any app, any device" which Verizon agreed to and made a public statement(Verizon: We promise to honor the Block C open access rules | Ars Technica) about it. So it's free for all 4G users, now if they force a plan change based on that, you should be able to drop Verizon without ETF.

There were phones that could be used in conjunction with unlimited or tiered data with officially sanctioned mhs a long time before this ruling, and at no additional cost. For those on the tiered data, the mhs doesn't count towards the tiered data cap, but has a separate allowance. Of course, whether or not anyone wants to use those phones is a different story.

Verizon already had tethering free on the share data plan. Now they can't block the tethering apps. I look for them to get very aggressive in forcing the new plan when changes are made.
