Text going out to wrong person

To the person who said before it is a Froyo problem is correct. If my memory serves me correctly it may even only be a 2.2.1 problem. It really is a shame that we still face this issue as it has been fixed LONG ago. Even if gingerbread is not ready this should have been fixed in one of the updates.

I agree.....

This has happened to me as well.

I have noticed that when it sends to the wrong person, I always have an open text conversation with that person. ((Meaning that I haven't deleted past dialogue with that person)).

Ah Ha!

That sounds like a big deal. Possibly the whole issue! It's in the cache!

I've not had this issue but I am always careful to keep any drafts I may have created accidentally deleted. Always.

Happened to me the other day. Sent a text meant for a good friend to one of my employees. Thankfully I don't think she had me save so she had no idea who it was, otherwise it would have been extremely embarrassing.

Happened to me just now... Sent a text saying "I miss you" to my wife but it went to my friend... Pretty embarrassing... And with such a powerful phone like. This its pretty pathetic that we have to delete threads of 100 or more...

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one going throught this. I've been deleting everything under 50 messages just in case, don't want to go through any more embaressing text going to the wrong person.

You think that's bad? My phone sent a harmless "I love you" text meant for my mother to my ex girlfriend. There needs to be a fix soon. There is no reason why I should have to limit the number of messages in my inbox before my phone starts getting me into trouble.

The Funny thing is this just happened to me, I called Verizon and it is not on their known issues list.

WTF!!!!

I can see a Lawsuit coming behind something like this.

Any fix for this guys? It just happened again!!! I'm still within the 14 day warranty...should I go to Verizon?

Download a 3rd party app like go SMS or keep your SMS inbox cleared out

This is a froyo issue and has been for a number of months. It's a bug in the programming and the issue happens even on third party text apps. Right now you can root and flash a GB based Rom if there is one available for your device and you feel comfortable or post your request to fix it here.... Http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9392
Or call your carrier and demand they fix it... Though they will just say they never heard of the problem.

It's not a Verizon issue its a Google and Android issue. It will be fixed in Gingerbread.

The same happens to me. Let's just say I sent a text to my GF and it went to my mom... Real bad....

But it seems that if you clear out your texts it doesn't happen.

I only read the first and last pages (the rest is tl;dr), but I had this issue out of the box a week after Tbolt's release. It's not as much a bug as it is a sluggish system. Like many, I'm usually quick with my taps, so the SMS screen isn't up for even a second before I've found my recipient, tap and start typing. But the Tbolt needs a second to refresh before you select the person you're texting.

For instance, yesterday, I went to send my wife a text. Since she's a frequent recipient, her name was near the top and I tapped right away and started writing. Had I waited, I'd have seen that it was a coworker whose name replaced hers in that position after the phone had a moment to refresh. So the coworker got a very boring text about a house repair issue she knew nothing about.

TL;DR VERSION: Wait a couple of seconds for the phone to get it's act together and refresh before you select your recipient.

I had the same problem and went to verizon about it. They told me to pull the battery and sim card. I still had the problem so I rooted the das BAMF 3.0 ROM. Haven't had the problem at all and the phone runs a lot faster. Battery life is better with stock ROM tho...

Has nothing to do with text threads of 100 or more!

This just happened to me for the first time. My TB is for work and I rarely text. I tried to reply to a spam sender (thread of 6 msgs) and it went to a co-worker (thread of 4 msgs).

What a horrible software defect. I cannot fathom that this is known and not already resolved.

From attempting to analyze this thread, I see two probable causes for this behavior.

1) Too quick on the trigger - don't wait for message interface to catch up when beginning a text, resulting in sending to the wrong person after the interface finally displays the real recipient. Seems like waiting and verifying the recipient before starting to type would "fix" this.

2) Leaving draft messages in your draft folder, resulting in the phone "resuming" an old message to someone else by mistake. This might be cured by making sure you never have any "draft" messages. You can get a "draft" by mistake by simply starting to reply then changing your mind and using the [Return] arrow to back out. This automatically (and maybe unintentionally) saves a Draft. If you have a draft message you can tell by Messages | Menu - if you see Draft, you have one or more and should delete them. If you do not have any drafts, you will not see a Draft folder at all.

Just my thoughts. I have never had this issue. But, I keep my drafts deleted and I'm a slow texter (the interface is faster than I am anyway) :)

It has nothing to do with the user, it is a problem with the messaging framework. NOTHING the user can do will prevent it from happening.
