Text messages over wifi on tmo?

Hi all,

My buddy just got an unlocked z3 compact and lives in the mountains. Hes been able to send and receive text messages with his previous tmo phones over wifi. is this possible with an unbranded model?

If the APN entries are correct for his carrier.
Yes, it will work.

Z3c doesn't support tmo wifi calling but if he uses an app like hangouts or any other messaging app, problem solved.
