The Coronavirus Maze-How are we navigating it today?

Hang in there everyone. This is going to take a while and we all have to find ways to cope. Take care of yourselves and be safe!

I am stuck doing schoolwork, walking on campus, watching YouTube videos, rambling on Twitter, etc...

And yes, @Morty2264 is right about the hugging thing. I also cannot hug my mom, not just because she is on the other end of the world but also because Serbia has gone into fully dystopian/totalitarian police dictatorship (much worse than anything in the US) and the fact that the Serbian president is cooperating with the worst totalitarians from China is not exactly helping the situation. It sucks knowing your family is not protected by ANY rights laws that you take for granted in the US, believe me.

My best friend back in Serbia is also losing it. He informs me on things that go on there, and today he messaged me saying how if you are caught violating ANYTHING, you get stuffed in a police van where you then wait for the judge to show up on Skype and give you your sentence. Freaking hell IMO.

Thank you! I have heard that there are some security issues with Zoom. My workplace uses it - I only use it when they need to have a meeting. But thank you for reminding me! I'll bring it to my boss' attention. I use Facebook Messenger when I'm harassing my family with my virtual presence. ??????

take a look at the following and see what they recommend. it explains some of the security issues, it says zoombombing was fixed and more. basically it says it is safe for normal everyday usage that does not involved with anything confidential. so if stuck at home because of the virus, still okay to use to visit family and friends.

We have a shelter in place order, social distancing rules, and all that stuff down here, but literally nobody follows it. I'm essential so I'm out and about everyday, and am constantly seeing people joyriding on their motorcycles, normal amounts if not more traffic, people just going about their normal lives. I mean all nonessential stores are closed, schools are closed so I can't even figure out where all these people are going.

Stay safe everyone.

I am not blaming the education system, but yeah I will have to adapt. I hope that whatever help system they have is effective.
Online learning as long as they have access to a tutor for help is OK. The open university in the UK has been doing distance learning for the whole of my lifetime (46 years). I don't know when it was started. But they have tutors you can talk to.

Good luck with it.

I been in the hospital for a few days..
My medicine caused my potassium went up to 5.9
At 6.0 it's too dangerous.

My temp was 101*

Had to go to the emergency room.
They stuck me in the hospital.

They wouldn't let anybody in to visit anybody.
You couldn't leave your room.
I felt like a 6 yr old kid locked in his room.
I just got home.
I can't take any leukemia " Myeloma " treatment for 2 weeks.

Got antibiotics for that time.
Oh I am so sorry you are sick. I didn't know you have leukemia. Try and keep yourself safe. Get well soon. Xxx

Sorry I came to this thread a bit late. Today we hit nearly 13.5k dead in the UK. This virus is just terrible. Awful. We have another 3 weeks minimum of lockdown. Fun!

Meanwhile here in the US the early computer models of the Corona virus spread turned out to be a tad bit overblown (I warned the public of this via social media at the beginning but people just waited for the government to admit it) and the several locked down states didn't cut down on the lockdowns (in Michigan the tyrannical governor made it so bad everyone there thinks she is a Nazi, just look on the news about some of the absurd and pointless restrictions that are implemented there). There are massive protests going on in Michigan and Texas right now, with people waving Gadsden flags (the "Don't Tread on Me" flags) all over the place while screaming at their town halls.

there are some pointless restrictions. for example - curfews in some small towns - like mine. it is from 10pm to 5am. since nothing is open and basically everyone is already home, it is really not needed. the few that might be out they have less chance of catching anything than during daytime when everyone is out working or going to stores or whatever. there are so many exceptions that nobody should get a ticket, even if they were out.

another one is making store hours shorter. all they are doing is lumping everyone together instead of spread out more over normal hours. there still would be plenty of time to clean after the store is closed.

that said, those protesters really need to stay home. they are no better than the spring breakers who partied at the beaches without a care in the world and got sick when they got home.

me, I have been basically staying home. only a few trips to the store to keep from going crazy and to pick up a few things otherwise I am home, learning to be a better couch potato.

I'm retired. Watch a lot of TV.

Seen 3 weeks in advance what was coming

Told the OL to go buy food. Before the panic
Put it in the refrigerator/ freezer in the upstairs.
Or the freezer downstairs in the garage.
We bought a lb of brisket meat from a BBQ place.
Bought steaks, sausage, hambutger meat.
Fish, pizza.
Soda pops.
Gator aid.
Milo's tea.
A big brisket to cook.
Milk break, cereal..candy.
Cookies.

Told some family members.

Told a few of the neighbors to go now and buy food before the panic.
They all laughed at me.

So I only texted a few other friends .

Did they pay the price trying to get what wasn't on the shelves.

I'm just waiting till we can roam the roads again.
Eat at nice restaurants

People go back to work.
Being confined is taking a toll on me.

I need to move around.

I am waiting for the restaurants to reopen. never cared for carryout so not eating any. though I have plenty of food in the fridge/freezer I really cannot cook unless it says seven minutes in microwave-and then I still burn it. I am actually losing weight - which is good. I am really ready to go back to work in June when the furlough is over.

I have a propane grill.
Love cooking with propane.
Cooked a big brisket on it @ 225* for 9 hrs.
Man did it turn out good.
We even cooked some dried pinto beans.
Had brisket and pinto beans.
I made sure that I had propane bottles full ahead of time..even had bottles for my Mr Heater, 30,000 but for some if the 44 * weather that snuck in for days..

The store hours thing got to me last night. I had to make an unexpected run for a thermometer battery last night (thankfully a false alarm in the end). Out of the 7 stores i could've normally went to, 6 were closed already and the one open store was sold out of both batteries and thermometers themselves. That's pathetic.

As for the Michigan protesters, expect more of this. Government running rough shod over us and trying to take away or rights and liberties is only making things worse. When did being able to plant a garden become such a bad thing? The last i checked, food is kind of an essential item, so there's only one conclusion I can draw from this. Their governor would rather everyone suffer if there's a grocery shortage, than allow some people to provide their own food. Heck, the inability to grow a garden would put more strain on the food supply chain, contributing to worse shortages. So yeah, I see it as a deliberate attempt to make the problem worse.

Or, if you want to take the wording of the act itself that garden centers must be closed, ok i guess technically the store could move those products into otherwise open areas of stores. That means talking up more floor space, and cramming shoppers into a more confined areas. Congrats on helping spread the virus even more! Or I guess the stores could further limit their occupancy. That will be lovely for the people who don't have time to wait in even longer lines to get in and now have to go without.

Either way, that order is a lose-lose situation.

If they say to stay at home, except for going after food or drugs. Which are essentials.

You should stay at home.

There is no way we can reopen the government if the Corona Virus cases continue to stay the same or rise.

Sorry but you being out could spread the virus . Respect the other people who are out trying to get things.

I am tired of being home as bad as you.,
I have to go once a week for Myeloma treatment.
If you gave me the corona virus, you could kill me.
I have no immune system.

What about my rights.

Stay at Home.

Sorry about your health. I do hopeSorry about your health. I do hope you can keep aired from tens virus. It is a terrible thing. l also have to be careful because I am at a high risk. My own immune system is weak after a spell in ICU with sepsis. 1 also have diabetes and asthma. But I was on a ventilator as my lungs collapsed. I am scared of being on one again.

Well, this is not exactly true. I've checked and what you have been saying since day one is that the "Coronavirus thing" was a hoax, an scheme, a false panic created "by the left" for economic and social control reasons. Not the measures to control the pandemia, but the pandemic itself. You bought the idea that this new virus was nothing else than a normal flu and that you would fight and wouldn't tolerate any kind of quarantine or forced testing.

I hope that now you recognise how wrong you were and understand that this is a very serious global pandemic.

About the models being wrong. This is completely normal and totally expected, and the are many reasons why this happened.

The isolation measures that were taken and the sharp increase in medical personnel and equipment helped to keep the numbers lower. On the other hand, this is a completely new situation so any model changes when more data arrives. And anyway, it doesn't matter too much how wrong any old model could be to agree that this is a terrible pandemic with serious consequences, don't you agree?
