The Essential Phone - Yay or Nay?

Launch "imminent" so I am looking forward to seeing it in person. But I won't go through with my reservation. I really want to see the Ocean Depth, or whatever that color is called. In person. And that color isn't launching until later.

Well, it's going to be a no from me now. They've taken too long and my phone literally just died a couple hours ago. As much as I was really interested in this phone and wanted to buy one, I can't sit around without a phone for a few days or potentially weeks or months waiting for them to release this phone. I need a phone for work and I need it for my personal life, and I need it now, not "soon" or "imminently" or whatever their next timeframe is.

I'm amazed that there have been no leaks regarding this phone. Especially this close to launch.

So I have pulled out my old Droid Turbo and will be selling my Pixel tomorrow via Swappa. Getting ready for my Essential Pure White to be able to be ordered. I am looking forward to seeing what cases come out for it. I know I am alone here but I wish LifeProof would make a case. And I know Essential won't sell enough for LifeProof to design a case.

I haven't seen any cases for it except for one wallet case from China.

They are saying no case needed. But while that may be the case (pardon the pun) it sure as heck will need a tempered glass screen. Any phone does, in my view.

I'm not sure how true that is if it was dropped. Ceramic can crack.
One flaw in the Mi Mix is they used ceramic around the perimeter. That's just asking for trouble. The PH-1's titanium should help since the metal frame covers what looks to be most of the edge curving around to the back. That assumes a perfect edge drop, however.

Whether or not Essential covered this flaw has yet to be seen.

I'm still buying a PH-1 in large part because of the industrial design and unlocked/un-bloated OS. If the gloss black proves to be a hassle to keep clean, I'll re-order in matte when available assuming antenna reception is good and there are no major issues.
