ATT updated their notice ... not sure what to think of this. Exchange for another phone?

Important Information for AT&T Customers with Samsung Note7

Samsung has notified us that they have identified a battery cell issue in certain Galaxy Note7s. They have asked all retailers, including AT&T, to stop selling the device. Because safety is our top priority, customers are strongly encouraged to exchange the Samsung Note7 for a new device. Customers with a Note7 may select a new smartphone, and may also return any Note7 accessories.

AT&T Statement on Exchanges for the Samsung Galaxy Note7 | AT&T

So not for a new Note? That statement makes no sense, glad it took all day to get that out.

This is what Verizon just told me

You: Samsung announced a voluntary recall of the Galaxy Note7 in response to an issue with the device’s battery. Because customer safety is our top priority, Verizon has stopped selling the Galaxy Note7. Additionally, through September 30, 2016, we are waiving the restocking fee for any customers who purchased a Galaxy Note7 and wish to return or exchange it.

You: What if i am past the 14 day return period?

Jennifer: You would need to buy a new device at retail value, or if it is a damage, you would need to call the phones company like apple or sony, and have them fix the problem through the warranty
Jennifer: If you call customer service, they may help you.

It is pretty clear from your posts and others that the word has not made it down to the call centers and such yet. Pretty disappointing that communications companies stink at it so bad. It sounds like they are not making this a priority, or everybody on the pointy end would have their new script by now.

A new article. I heard about this 600,000 overseas a little while ago.

Seems numbers may be changing.

"Sales of the Note 7 will be halted in 10 countries, Koh Dong Jin, head of Samsung’s mobile division, said Friday. He said there are about 2.5 million units in the hands of users and carriers.

Lee Seung Woo, an analyst at IBK Securities Co. in Seoul, estimates that about 1 million handsets are affected by the battery problem, with about 600,000 sold overseas. He expects shipments of the Note 7 this year will shrink to 12 million units from a previous estimate of 14 million units."

I just chatted with Verizon. They said i could return the Note, have the rep reset the upgrade date and hop across to the street to Best Buy and take advantage of their Labor Day Sales. I'm gonna wait, but if I decide I don't want to stick with the Note I'm aiming towards that rose pink S7E with the $200 gift card.

The biggest mistake that's happened isn't the small number of faulty batteries, it's the fact that Samsung has apparently failed to register which component batches went in which phones. If they had, they could do a limited recall based on IMEI numbers. But because they failed to follow this simple unwritten manufacturing rule, it's costing them dearly.

Ohhh, that rule is written! At least it is at my company, lol. If that is true, that is a very, very costly mistake. smh

I saw that rose gold one the other day.. I was tempted.. but i do love my Note 7... So are you outside the 14 day return period:?

The problem is, will they back date the upgrade date to match the original upgrade date which I got the note 7?

Well I'm keeping my note 7
At least until tm or Samsung puts a new note 7 in my hands
Not spending one day without a note 7
Not taking any "comparable" phones either

It would be nice if they provided a comparable phone as a loaner in the mean time. Don't think that will happen though

BB return policy so far.... within 14 days return it to store...over 14 days return it to manufacturer. Phone was launched at BB on the 19th. So today(9/2) is either 14 days or 15 days depending on if you consider the day of release the 1st day. This whole situation just sucks... 14 days with my new phone i love... return it for an S7...wtf? Doesn't seem fair or thought out.... I expect them to get their new shipments of replacement phones and be able to exchange your old one for the new one.. This is how it should be done... not just forfeit your phone and good luck.

From BB specialist:
"I’m sure that you are concerned about how to proceed regarding dealing with your Samsung Note 7.

With this news coming out fairly quickly, it did take us some time to figure out how to proceed and how to collaborate this with Samsung. XXXX information on our public post is the most current that we have. Regrettably, we will not be able to extend the return/exchange period beyond the 14 days.

If you are unable to return within this time frame, we can only recommend that you wait for Samsung to announce how they will be handling purchases outside the 14 day return period. Once we know more, we’ll be updating our public post as well.""

Since Samsung has experience centers in so many Best Buys, it would be shocking if they don't use them as a return depot at a minimum for Best Buy customers. I'd wait for the details to come.

It appears ATT and Verizon are handling this similarly, in that they they will help you refund or exchange the Note 7 for a different phone. It doesn't seem like they're willing to actually exchange the Note 7 for another Note 7 at any point.

If that's the case I wonder if Samsung would be a better source for getting a replacement? Although there's cons down that route as well such as probably being out of a phone for a couple of weeks...

I'm waiting on At&t to send me a new Samsung Note 7 phone, or call me and say I can come into the store and get a new Samsung Galaxy note 7.
Elsewise I'm keeping the Note 7 I have.

Samsung has sold millions of these phones and like 30 messed up.

Wait what kind of phone do you have? ;)

Mine has given no indication it has an issue, so keeping it.
I bought a back up phone. It is always good to have one. An S5. Never had an issue with the one I had before. Might keep it in the box on stand by until they give more information on replacements or if the LG v20 specs are good.

Gonna call up samsung. All i care about is a temporary replacement. Totally fine with returng/replacing phone for fix.
I would give it a day or two and only contact Samsung Plus.

Even some Samsung offices don't have the statement from the Global office.
