The HTC One has kind of saved the mobile market...

Htc finally got the publicity to show off there nice phone, and ppl are biting it. Nokia and lg have wonderful phones now, but the public hype on those two are no where in sight of samsung and apple. Its good to see other companies make a run for the podium.

Holy negativity. Mods, you can shut this thread down if you'd like.

You made a statement that some people aren't agreeing with. I don't agree with it at all. How can the One "save" anything when it may not even keep HTC alive?

With decent Windows 8 options from Nokia, phablet phones like the Optimus G Pro and Note 2 (soon to be Note 3), much better BlackBerry offerings, and world-beaters like the GS4 and iPhone 5, it doesn't need saving, anyways.

The One saves the mobile market from being taken over by two phone companies. Ppl are harsh on here. If you looked at his post it talked about how samsung and apple are taking over and how no other company can compete and htc is coming up in the ranks.

No it doesn't. It won't even come close to selling as many phones as either the S4 or iPhone 5/5S. It's a great phone, but that statement is false. If it makes you feel better to believe it, though, then by all means.

I wonder if it'll outsell the 4S. ;)

Where is your source if this? Has HTC released sales numbers yet?

This is just a case of someone wanting their phone to be something it isn't. What it is, however, is a damn good phone. That should be enough.

Nokia are not even in the game, they are estimated to have sold twenty million Lumia handsets in last 24 months, samsung are on track to sell ten million of the s4 in four weeks (and I say that as a Lumia user looking to get another).

I would have taken the nexus 4 over the GS3; but you make a solid point many of my family thought galaxy phones and iphones were the only smartphones.

I'm excited to see how much of the market HTC can steel back. I'm tired of seeing nothing but GS3s and iPhones everywhere I go. There was no competition before a few weeks ago, now people can actually recognize my phone if it's not "a Galaxy".

That's a bit of a broad assumptions n don't you think?

On a side note the sprint stores near me don't even advertise the one but they do have this massive banner for samsung on all the windows.

The store we go to the most has a little tiny setup for the one and a massive setup for the s4 and the reps don't even talk about the one.

I hope you guys don't get your hopes up. The One is a great phone but the S4 & 5S will crush it in sales again. I'd be surprised if it even outsells the S3. If you love the phone cool, but realistically HTC simply does not have the money to be able to market their phones the way that Samsung & Apple do. I think I read somewhere that HTC spends roughly 45 mil for marketing where as Samsung spends over 400 mil. I've always loved HTC phones but at this point I just prefer the Galaxy line.

At this point the One should save HTC to fight another year without collapsing or being bought out. BUT, to say it will save the mobile industry is a bit of a stretch. I think the One is a satisfactory first step towards HTC becoming relevant again and if the Two or OneS or whatever the next One is learns from it's shortcomings and improves upon a decent design it might sell a good amount.

Even if they did have the marketing money they don't have the name factor of Samsung or Apple, it'd just be wasted money. HTC hasn't saved any market with the S4 selling 10 million in under a month and on track to being the best selling Android phone of all time, and with the 5S more than likely selling more than that. They've managed to save themselves which is more important.

Next year is going to be interesting though. WP8 is slowly and surely gaining ground regardless of people's perception in this thread, it's looking like Sony might actually start selling phones on US soil instead of customers having to import them, the next iPhone will have a radically new design with a bigger screen, the Galaxy S5 will have a flexible screen, and with the help of some reviews and people in general bashing plastic, more than likely have a metal body. HTC is going to have to bring it again.

I'm one of those who made the switch from Galaxy s3 (international) to HTC One.... and i'm LOVING it.
Loving everything from the feel of the device, to the camera performance in low light. Actually able to get great photo's in venues where flash is not allowed and the lighting is usually horrendous for anything less than a DSLR.

In terms of marketing, never underestimate the value of word of mouth (or in this day and age - bloggers and reviews).
In terms of the modding community, the HTC One is quite active with already a CM10 alpha undergoing nightly testing, many custom roms and kernels already out and quite an active forums.
It is quite a viable option if u want a phone that won't be dead in the eyes of the public a few months after release.

I don't consider myself a fanboy since i've never stuck to a particular company for more than one generation if another company makes a better product, and in this case, HTC has won me over for this round. HTC needed a winning product to stay in the game, and I think they hit a home run with the HTC One.
