The HTC One will be a hit, pass Galaxy S4 for ONE reason..

Which is why keeping it secret for as long as possible is important as well.

These days nothing seems to remain a secret. There seem to be leaks for every new product (some of them definitely seem intentional too.)

This is what Apple gets right.

Pre-order (or announcement of pre-order) right after the product reveal/announcement with availability one to two weeks after. None of this one and half months to two months of BS.

Samsung's really trying to be hard be Apple. Next step for them is to copy that reveal/release window. Every OEM needs to copy that.

Yep, my gf pre ordered her iphone 5 like 17 hours after the release. There have been plenty of phones I eventually passed up, but would have bought had they employed the same instant availability as apple. No point in making a big deal of a release if you give people 2 months to forget about the product. Tech moves way too fast and there's always something bigger and better to distract people.

It's funny.... Rumor now has it that the Xperia ZL will be released very soon. That was the one I wanted before the HTC One but that was hyped even earlier....

^I really liked the way the zl looked too. I've basically been sitting around the last 2 months with my contract up waiting for phones to finally get released. Honestly, I probably would have bought the zl had it come out near to when it was announced at ces.

This phone is going to fail for two simple reasons that HTC is to stupid to realize ..

- Marketing should have already begun.
- The phone should have been released already.

Let me explain. No one km knows this phone exist. In a few days, everyone is going to know the S4 exist.... By HTC not marketing this phone from the announcement, they just killed themselves.

The phone should have been announced, commercials should have been rowing right after, and last, the phone needed to be out BEFORE Samsung's announcement of the S4.
I would love to agree with some of your points, but dissing a company that pulled in a $35 million profit last quarter, while using that atrocious spelling and grammar, is making it difficult. I do agree that the marketing push should be going on right now. As for releasing it, with the exception of the iPhone a couple weeks after announcing and low-end phones releasing without much announcement at all, nobody announces and releases that quick. I'm not saying I agree with the practice, but if following that schedule is a nail in the coffin then Samsung would be screwed with their devices as well. The GS3 was announced in the beginning of May last year, but didn't show up here until mid-June. It's more about the marketing than anything, although I think HTC will do just fine this year with the One. Will they beat Sammy? Probably not, but they will survive and probably grow substantially. While we here in the Nerd Herd are looking at everything, the average consumer will see the screen, the front-facing speakers and the aluminum body and be hooked.

Thank you.

HTC isn't losing any money right now.

I find it funny when people on the internet have nothing better to do than to talk about proper grammar on a message board. I'm not here to write an essay, get over yourself. I'm not dissing the company, I am simply saying what should be done if they want to compete with monsters like Apple and Samsung. I'm not coming here to bash the phone nor do I care if they make money or not, I'm still getting the phone.

Here's what I find funny: you complain about my mentioning of your grammar, yet you obviously changed your grammar! Congratulations are in order and I'm sorry if you didn't catch that my previous comment was a little tongue-in-cheek. The truth is you were absolutely dissing them in your prior post. When you say "This phone is going to fail for two simple reasons that HTC is to stupid to realize" and "By HTC not marketing this phone from the announcement, they just killed themselves" I take that as you dissing HTC. It's not a crime. Lots of people do it, especially out of frustration. I've probably done it myself over the years.

As for grammar (TANGENT ALERT!), I don't understand why people write it (or type it) so poorly. They just put their ignorance on display for the rest of the world to see. And I do mean the rest of the world - there are people on this site from all over the globe. I wouldn't have mentioned it if you were not from here. I wouldn't expect you to have had an education based on the English language. As an 8-year veteran of the U.S. Navy I appreciate more than most your service in the Air Force. I also know that to be in the Air Force you have completed high school. So the fact that someone with a high school education, at a minimum, can't use correct grammar is just silly. I've seen it with my own teenage children, who used to write their school papers the same way they compose a text, leaving out only the stupid emoticons. I'm not sitting here correcting everyone's typos. We all make those mistakes, even the esteemed editorial staff of this site (you'll notice them periodically in the front-page articles). I try not to come of as a grade-A douchebag when I point it out, so I'll be a little sarcastic or self deprecating. I'm not better than anyone, nor am I an English professor. I used to hate "Grammar Nazis" too, until I heard someone say that grammar and spelling and punctuation are clothes for your thoughts. If you dress up your thoughts like an uneducated bum, don't be surprised when people treat them as such. And these aren't little chat windows we're on here. These forums will continue in perpetuity and be seen for years and years by people who click links in their search results. I was just recently on a 7-year old thread about some older software I had. I wonder if those people thought that some dummy in 2013 would be reading their thoughts on, what was at the time, the newest version of Musicmatch Jukebox?

Sorry for the rant. And I am glad you'll be getting the One, if it's what fits you. I've already invoked Godwin's Law so I should end this post.

^never heard of Godwin's law until you posted about it. So unbelievably true haha

Pointless grammatical dueling aside, the one reason why the HTC One will not achieve what OP wants is very simple:

No Verizon. No big four, no domination.

It's called typing on a phone vs typing on a computer. Mistakes get made constantly on a cell phone, not as much on a computer with a full keyboard. Think what you want of me, I'm not going to lose sleep of it.

Unles somone is rightin there're sentiness LKe dis All da tim, stop worrying about it.

I don't "think" anything of you, one way or the other. I don't know you from Adam. I was making a general point after you replied to my quote. That's all. I get that it's a pain to type on the phone sometimes. Half of my posts are from the phone, including this one and my last one. I try to take a little pride in my work, whatever it may be. I try to hold myself to the same standards that I'm talking about. Not everyone wants to deal with it on the phone screen and I fully understand and sympathize. It can be tedious. Don't use it as an excuse, though. Some folks choose not to read their stuff before posting it from a phone. That's all.

Incidentally, as much as I'm sure you, and many others, think I'm a huge a-hole, know this: the fact that I am a huge a-hole has no bearing on the fact that crappy grammar is just that, regardless if it's written with a pen, typed on a phone or on a computer keyboard. And just to keep this on topic - WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET SOME LAUNCH DATES HERE!

No one thinks you are an aszhole! We KNOW you are!

Remember what the doormouse said, feed your head!

Well we'll see what happens. The HTC One is a very nice looking phone and I'm sure they'll sell a lot of them.

But between the Samsung and Apple marketing machines there is only so much market share.

agreed...not a chance....

Samsung S4 will wipe the floor with the HTC One. Naming it same name across all carriers is not going to save this phone or company. Maybe if it were 2011, and maybe if they hadn't released a phone with the almost exactly SAME NAME(One-X) and then RE-RELEASED it 6 mos later (One-X+) [seriously?!] and maybe if they hadn't hobbled it with non-expandable storage & non removable battery and maybe if they had offered a 5 inch version since the one X+ already has the 4.7 inch range covered, and maybe if it wasn't white on top and bottom only (uglllly, no continuity) and maybe if it wasn't over-hyped and whattheheckiswiththatflippyhomescreen??!! .. And i heard the price will be upwards of $749.00 off contract... Are u kidding me?! HTC is all ova the place these days, they took the one thing that everyone loved about them and mucked it up (Sense) But given all that i have listed, this phone is doomed before it even gets out of the starting gate.

And this is not said with malice, the Original HTC Evo will hold a place in my heart FOREVER : )

yeah i was eyeing the ZL too UNTIL someone mentioned its uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time due to squareness and non-contoured edges. I remember as much as i loved the EVO 4g, that phone would hurt my palm daily after holding it too long, and i imagine bigger phone = more palm pain.... lol
