The HTC One will be a hit, pass Galaxy S4 for ONE reason..

You just look for any reason to bash HTC don't you?

I like htc, I still like the Evo lte but I feel the one will fall to the gs4 personally. While unlike the hardware, I think HTc didn't show enough software features and I feel as gimmicky as the gs3 features are Sammy is doing the right thing by in a sense prettying up android to the masses. I feel the gimmicky stuff works and touch wiz is just a little more user friendly to the average non techie.

I wish I was wrong but I don't see the HDTV one competing on the level with the gs4. Apple is a exception due to the fanboys and the apps as boring as it is.

I see gs3s everywhere but I never see the one x nor Evo lte.

It comes down to what everyone else here is saying, HTC has done a bad job of marketing their phones up til now and if they don't step it up for the One, they're gonna be in a worse spot. There's rumors that the marketing for the One is gonna match what there was for the S3 which would be a good step but we'll have to wait and see.

But I don't think it was all marketing, I mean the gs3 was fragile but its was a nice looking phone and it had a better shape to me than the one x. I mean it was a plastic fragile pos but people looked at the phone and thought it was sexy and the software sealed the deal. I think even with htc horrible marketing the gs3 would have outsold the one x.

I think the majority of us use a case on our phones do maybe htc build quality while fret is often overlooked.

I think software really sells phones in a sense. Big screen good software is usually a go in the mind of consumers.

I think sense is just too bland to look at.

This is from right field I admit but I honestly don't see the Samsung/Apple comparison everyone is making these days. Apple has/had been at the top for quite a while. They got there through a combination of strong marketing and very strong build quality and at least at the beginning some innovation. Samsung has been at the top for a fraction of that time and it got there through marketing mostly. I own an S3 and it's the best phone I've ever owned for countless reasons. I would never say the build quality is cheap per sa, but I'm the first to admit that after about three months the phone looked and felt "old". Every crack has something in it. Everyone that saw it for the first time was floored by how awesome the design was and how beautiful the screen is, including myself but I use it everyday. Those feelings went away pretty quickly. To me it felt like buying a Nissan or a Mazda.....A beautiful car with a lot of initial value that just doesn't seem nearly as nice a short time later. I couldn't wait to get TouchWiz off my phone. I don't need my phone to monitor my eyes or "bump" pictures to my friends. You pay for those things one way or the other and I'd rather have something else. I'm not knocking Samsung or the people that prefer them, all I'm saying is if it's not for the software, I see no reason to give Samsung the nod over another manufacturer. The S3 has more "vanilla" roms than I've seen for any other phone ever. If you strip a phone down to stock Android, isn't it all about the hardware? I know there's a valid argument for removable battery/sd but I don't see that a legitimate deal breaker for most people. I guess what I'm saying in the end is....Samsung will never be Apple and they will never "kill-off" anyone else. They aren't the total package capable of doing so. They get a lot of things right, but not everything. HTC 's target audience is not the same as Samsung's, the CEO said it himself. There's two kinds of people, the kind who want what the next person has and the kind who could care less.

..... LG is making the same mistakes HTC was making now (Optimus V? Vu? G? L9? F5? F7?)

Those are LG's last years phones & business models... LG may as well be renamed, "The Comeback Kid" becuz they are back, and in a BIG way. Their new UI combined with their redesigned phones are almost pieces of art. They have actually done the OPPOSITE of HTC, gone from the bottom on their way quickly to becoming #2...

If you don't believe me, stop by a Sprint or AT&T store and spend 5 minutes with the Optimus G, or watch a video on the 5.5 Optimus G Pro (yes, a copycat of the Note II in a lot of ways BUT its still light years ahead of the Vu and it will sell BIG TIME- Not everyone wants a stylus) And lets not forget their most recent venture... Have u seen or played with an LG Nexus 4? The best and most popular Nexus to date? All LG, and i am lovin' on them lately :-*

"the kind of ppl who could care less" used to FAR outnumber the geeks and fanboys who cared tremendously.

But it has shifted, and now almost everyone is into "the quality of the camera on their phone, how fast a proc it will have, what version of Android it will be, etc..."

Two short years ago no one i knew even knew what "rooting was" or what Android phone was for that matter, now i see and overhear ppl on a daily basis talking about the "most current Android phones" and all of their offerings....

So any company who's business model IS: "Most ppl won't know or care" is obviously NOT going to succeed because ppl will, they do, and they ARE caring... :D

I mean the exact opposite. I'm saying that some people don't care about buying a product just because everyone has/wants it. I think those consumers end up more educated and more aware of what they're buying. So basically you and I are in agreement.
It boggles my mind the choices consumers make without the slightest bit of research. Now I know I'm more into these stupid phones than I should be but I see one friend after another making dumb moves. My brother last year bought the Galaxy S2 a week before the S3 came out. He had no idea, never searched it once. I just had 2 friends buy S3's this week. I know they're saving money but come on, they're signing contracts. I think I have a hard time realizing just how bliss ignorance can be. My brother has not used my S3. He's fine with his S2. When it's his time to upgrade he'll get an S4 probably and he'll love it. I think I walk the fine line between an educated consumer and an addict.

Let me also add that I am rooting for HTC. My first Android phone was an Evo 4G and I loved it.

When I upgraded last summer I got a Evo 4g LTE and really wanted to like it, but just ran into too many issues. Swapped it out for an S3 and have had no issues.

I'm not due for an upgrade until early 2014 so it's a moot point for me anyway. But I am hoping HTC does have success with this device.

My GF is due for an upgrade and she's a big HTC fan so she's already made up her mind to get the HTC One. So at least I'll be able to check it out. :)

Hmm... kinda sounds like what you just said would totally apply to HTC as well. Instead of a flagship model and then several variants of it for different carriers, they have announced the One (sure, there will be a lesser-spec'd version coming later on. We all know it because they all do it). They've redesigned Sense and added some interesting software and hardware features. And the solid-block aluminium construction really IS a work of art. But everyone should just continue to crap on HTC because... I don't know, honestly. It's like everyone has a personal grudge against Peter Chou.

A lot of members here have an agenda! They push Samsung because its easier to root! They think the more Sammy users means more dev support! If HTC released the ONE with the bootloader already unlocked and rooted, samsung wouldn't stand a chance!

Remember what the doormouse said, feed your head!

I don't agree there is an agenda per se. There are simply a lot of people who like the S3 or Note 2 (ie Fanboys) . You may not like Samsung phones for whatever reason, and that's okay.

If HTC can put together a solid marketing campaign, then they have a good chance to be competitive with the S4. If they don't, well then they're in trouble.

But a conspiracy or agenda is reaching a bit.

That Cheap plastic feels like crap...and i own one...hate it...cant wait for the HTC One to drop on sprint...already pre ordered. Samsung has good marketing....Thats why it sold 40mil+ i work in sales and trust when i say all it takes to sell a crap piece of product is good marketing and good features....which ssamsung did, they marketed the android features in a different way so that it would sell, and it worked, does that mean its the better product, no, it means they had a better sellsman. thats all.

Samsung doesn't know how to give people what they want. They know how to make people want what they're selling, just like Apple. Unfortunately HTC hasn't figured that part out yet.

Wow! That is REALLY selling short the intelligence of the average consumer.

You cannot look at BOTH the SGS III & The Note II with its incredible speed, amazing camera, buttery smooth experience, on board SD Card, long lasting battery life, huge beautiful screen, and say they didn't deliver a device that ticked EVERY box (and then some) of what, "the ppl want"...

If you put Samsung side side by side HTC and said, "who's ;listening?" it would be Samsung ALL THE WAY (with LG gaining on them : )

There are 3 kinda business models to follow: Those who MAKE things happen, those who WATCH what happen, and those who say, "what happened"?! Guess where HTC is right now?

Yes, their designs are good, but i think Samsung's ugly, plastic-y designs PROVE it ain't just about the "DESIGN".....

The SIII is a great phone that got positive review across the board when it was released. You are entitled to your opinions, about the build quality and materials used. The One from what I read has great build quality, but whether it will beat sales projections is up to consumers and HTC's marketing team.

I disagree. I think the average consumer does not care about battery life, screen etc. etc. I think the average smart phone user just wants it to work. Specs are a secondary option and based on that Samsung will prevail because they are the sexy pick right now (they produce a great product but that is not my point). They are marketing geniuses and have gottena foothold that tehy will not relent easily.

Pointless grammatical dueling aside, the one reason why the HTC One will not achieve what OP wants is very simple:

No Verizon. No big four, no domination.

So to expand this...is it because of HTC giving Verizon a signature device and who makes that choice? Is it Verizon pushing around HTC or HTC signing some agreement that they still have to give them a signature phone?

Side note, this is one reason why I am jumping ship to AT&T (signature phone)

How did you already preorder on Sprint?

I assume he means pre register.

It's not on all carriers, it's not on Verizon..yet...which is a huge omission.
Being on all carriers with the same name is far from a guarantee of success anyway.
I do think finally having iPhone build quality on an Android device will help sell phones though.
