The HTC One will be a hit, pass Galaxy S4 for ONE reason..

You bring up some pretty solid points, there So Cold. I can't really argue with any of them especially as neither phone has launched yet. Even when they do, I think it will take a good couple of weeks before the real reviews start to trickle in anyway as the big reviewing sites will want to play with the phones for a few weeks first to see how they fare. I fully expect to see a bucket load of HTC One vs SGS4 reviews spring up in the not too distant future.

I agree that it's not all about visuals. I do admit that the HTC One looks superb and the leaked pics of the alleged SGS4 leave me a bit cold but really it's the internals I want to know about. The big clincher for me is whether the UK version of the SGS4 will come with a dual sim card slot as per the leaked video for the Chinese(?) edition. If it does, and both sims are active at the same time, then i'm sold on that as it will save me from carrying round two phones. I had an SGS3 for a few months and although I didn't like the plastic look and feel, I could look past that for a phone that does exactly what I need, when I need it, with no fuss (admittedly, my particular SGS3 didn't so I got rid of it). In this case, I shan't be so rash as to go out and buy a 'Day One' phone like I did with the S3.

Thanks. The dual sim card idea is something that's been off my radar but now that you mention it I could see that being very handy and pretty neat. And yeah, my HTC phone I got on day 1 and even switched carriers to get it and totally regret it.

Ry i didnt stick with it it was forced on me when my old phone gave out...the sprint store got tired of trying to fix it and gave me the S3 until my contract is up...i didnt spend money on please believe i would never spend money on samsung or LG smartphones.

The SIII is a great phone that got positive review across the board when it was released. You are entitled to your opinions, about the build quality and materials used. The One from what I read has great build quality, but whether it will beat sales projections is up to consumers and HTC's marketing team.

dont get me wrong i agree whole heartedly with what you said about sales...but the build quality is completely subjective...and the fact of the matter is, samsung objectively demolished sales with the gs3....because of marketing.

Forced? No one is forced to use a certain phone.

ok economically the S3 was my only option seeing as how to get another phone would have meant either buying a new one outright, (im a broke college student, at the time i was any way) or accept the offer of the S3 for free until my contract is up next month. so for all intensive purposes, forced.

For all intents and purposes, you chose to be "stuck" with an S3.

and again, i did not, i did not have 400+ dollars to buy a new phone, therefore my ONLY other option was the S3....plain and simple....Thanks!

So you are making stuff up then. You can't even provide a link that you claim exists that proves polycarbonate is stronger than aluminum.
Good job. I didn't even have to try and make you look bad.

If this back and forth were respectful, I would happily take time to provide you links.

Dude, relax. You're making the rest of the HTC fans here look bad. Anytime we comment about anything we get lambasted because you've been twisting everyone's nipples. Not to mention that these arguments about material are a little disingenuous when they get out of control like they have been. On everyone's part. It's so much more complicated than most people here know. But when you complain that nobody gives you a link to back up their comment I think to myself that, as a person w/ an Android device, you should know how to Google something. If you can't do that your phone should be confiscated.

That being said, the aluminum being used in the One (I'm assuming a 5052 or 6061 alloy) and the machining process they're using make it ridiculously more strong than the plastics and polycarbonates used by Sammy, LG, Sony and even HTC from last year. But there are stronger plastics out there. And once people are willing to shell out a couple grand for a phone, I'm sure they will be made out of those plastics, or even carbon nanotubes.

I agree that the case the one sits in is beautiful. No doubt about it. Durable? The jury is still out there, but if people dont drop them and case em up, I bet they stay relatively scratch dent free.

Looking at the bigger picture and taking this subject into context, people that clamor samsung is junk because they use plastic are shortsighted imo. I almost want to buy a s4 and one and just do the drop test all ready. The plastic in the s3 and note 2 has held up well for most of the world. It is the same thing as me saying the one is a tin can. Fact is, htc has one of the best phone designs I have ever seen. But I am also not ignorant enough to run around AC claming samsung plastic is junk every second I get a chance to. I give the case win to htc. I give the software win to samsung. The software in the s4 is innovative to the tune of another apple crushing victory imo.

Can I load 4.2.2 TW on a one with a 2600mah removable battery and sd card slot? Because then I would have almost the perfect phone.

After seeing the s4 I am saying something u thought I would not...

The HTC one could take the android spotlight for this season away from the s4.it will depend on if they get the marketing right, but they appear to have developed the better overall device. It's got more risky software and better hardware. I cannot wait for the reviews and comparisons.

HTC, you have a chance. Don't screw it up. We are rooting fir ya

One can only hope.

It may be Apple crushing, but I don't think the S4 software is all that innovative, most of it is already around in Android, and Samsung's interpretation/implementation of them is not all that great. I did try out the Smart Pause and Smart Scroll functions at the event tonight and neither of them worked for me, it was a lot more miss than hit for those around me as well. Air Gesture worked within the gallery for me but not anywhere else. As far as the camera functions like being able to edit out faces and unwanted objects, etc. - that is not unique to the S4, the HTC One has it too, just that they haven't played it up. And overall, TouchWiz still seems so clunky to me. Samsung has slimmed the phone down, and it does fit better in hand than the S3, but the HTC One (which I have also played with but not gotten yet) is beautiful and the class of the field in design. Other than Samsung storage envy, I am so glad I am going with the One.

Edit: PS: By the end of tonight's event, I didn't feel a huge wave of enthusiasm from people - it was like "Is that all there is?"
