The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Mine is a Verizon 505 and was manufactured 5/15. Got it from Swappa few months back, still going strong.... I really hope she doesn't die on me, lol.

Just curious.
Has anyone bought a new US991 version lately that died?

I took the leap and bought a brand new one from B&H that will be here on the 26th.
Slightly worried now after reading about the failure rate.

Buying a new one does not necessarily equal getting a newly made one. I just got a "new" one from Sprint. They took it off their shelves and gave it to me. It was made September 2015. When you get your new phone, it'll be interesting to see when it was made.

I bought an LG G4 (used) via Ebay. It is an H815, European model. I am in the US and the seller also. The serial number starts with 505. The seller says he never had problems with it. I will receive it in a few days.
1. What tests should I do when I get it to see if the phone has the bootloop problem or is perhaps starting to show symptoms?
2. Will LG USA replace an H815 by an H815 ( I want this version because I plan to use it on vacation in Europe).
3. If not, do I need to send this H815 to a European LG service center if the phone starts having this issue?
Thanks

There's basically no warning on when it will happen, according to most of us affected by the issue. Your safest bet is sending as much of your data to cloud services, and making regular backups of your phone. Good luck!

I have a Verizon LG G4 I used in Italy for 2 months, it worked just fine with an Italian SIM in it. You don't need the European version to use it over there.

"just fine" means what? H+ data or 4G LTE data on all bands offered on all Italian carriers?

I preorder the G4 since launch around May 2015, it was delayed for some reason and LG give a few vouchers which is quite nice.
It was 505, Made in Korea, LG-H818P dual-sim model, as I am in Indonesia thats the model I get, so after around 9 monts of use, it dies, got the motherboard replaced and its been 3 months now and still okay, but a friend of mine G4 which was bought around 3-4months after I bought mine actually dies sooner, got motherboard replaced around 2 months prior to mine which is around jan 16, but just last week his G4 dies for the second time which makes me wonder whether even a few of the newer motherboard still have the same problem.
Now even though I enjoy using my G4, already preordered G5 which should arrive next week. Should I just sell my G4 now in case the same problem persist?
Since its a "no warning" death, its quite annoying when you have some important stuff perhaps like sms, documents, etc in internal memory which I havent got time to back up since I never back up every single day.

I first went with a Vodafone sim.Coverage is great in the major cities, but not where I was staying (Tuscany). So I swapped it for a TIM sim (Telephono Italia Mobile)..which has much greater coverage in Italy. H+ in weak areas, 3G everywhere else. It was plenty fast and I mainly used it for Gmail and Google maps.

Just a curious question for you guys.

What security patch are you on? My unit is still stuck on January. No new updates for it.

I don't think I've seen any updates on mine since January either, now that you mention it.
See, I'm slightly disturbed by this.

I'm not one to gloat about security updates, but seeing the G4 still being on January is somewhat concerning to me. Especially since my dad's midrange Samsung is already on May 1st.

Well, I stand corrected. Last update via Sprint for me was February 2, 2016 (LS991ZVA). But that's still almost 3 months ago. Also still sitting on 6.0.0.

I sent a message today to LG USA, LG Puerto Rico, T-Mobile USA and PR, and they did not give me any information on an ETA for a newer security update.

That's not very good news to me.

Are they actually committed to security updates??
