The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

... but Best Buy claims they have no record of ANYTHING wrong with ANY of the G4s.

That's absolutely right. They have nothing because they deny it as a problem. If they replace your phone it just gets logged as the phone doesn't work, you pay your deductible and get your refurbished phone. If they don't replace it they will send you on your way to LG to have it fixed - again nothing gets logged on their side.

Well, my beloved G4 has just gone back to Bell Canada after developing the boot loop problem. Both the Bell guy on the phone, and the guy at the store said they knew about the problem, and that many people are bringing their phones in. Mine is less than 1 year old (barely), so the fix/replacement will be covered under warranty. I booted up my old Note 2, inserted my SIM card, and I'm good till they get a phone back to me. Note that my wife's G4 is just fine. I suspect, after reading through a few of these threads, that the problem develops after a certain amount of usage, i.e., if you're a light user, you may not ever have the problem. The guy at the Bell store said that the G5 does not seem to have any sort of issue (so far).

Sorry about your G4. My wife and I both experienced the boot loop on our G4's. We're both on G5's now and loving the phone. Fantastic device. Part of me is waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I don't think LG would let that happen again. If so, I might have to buy a Samsung. Nothing against the company, I just can't stand the the capacitive home button.

For the record, my wife has owned several HTC devices (including the G1) and I tried to talk get into the 10 and take the plunge with the G5 on my own. However, she had a bad experience with both the M7 and M8 and I couldn't talk her into it.

I have a line eligible for 2 year contract now, but in looking through Sprint's offerings, I really don't see anything that jumps out to me. I'm really thinking I should sell this G4 while it still works (although I know prices have dropped due to the bootloop issue). Anybody else found something as a good replacement on Sprint? I want a good camera, SD card slot, replaceable battery, and IR blaster, if possible (the latter I could do without, but I've gotten pretty used to using it as a remote, to my wife's chagrin!

Since you mentioned replaceable battery, your options are pretty much limited to the LG G5. Sprint doesn't carry the LG V10 AFAIK, which is a shame.

I don't know any other high-end phone that has a replaceable battery, since nearly every phone that I know of has a sealed battery.

I guess if it were quick charge capable (especially QC 3.0), I might be able to live without the swappable battery. Even with that, there's just not a whole lot out there. The G5 looks promising, until I think of all the issues going on with build quality in the G4. Not really sure if the modular concept will catch on.

What i have been looking at is after my Sprint lease is up dropping them and going to MetroPCS (which is cheaper and GSM) and getting an unlocked phone, that way i can choose a phone that i like, not one that Sprint says i should have. That is just my 2 cents.

I had a G4 on T-Mobile with a 505 serial# that I had a year with no problems, but just switched to Sprint for the 50% deal and bought the Htc 10 but had a few issues with it so I returned it and don't care for the G5. I wound up getting another G4 since i have cases and five batteries for it and it has a 602 serial# built in February. Did they fix the issue on production by then?

I've had my Verizon G4 for a year or so now, and today it cr@pped out on me. It won't go past the LG splash screen. I've tried battery pulls and resetting with the power and down button at the same time. Is this the dreaded boot loop issue? Ugh. Thanks

Oh but yes. Welcome to the club. Sorry about your G4.

What S/N do you have?

Why should they? They seem to have taken the "Keep denying everything and it will go away" approach to this problem. This is the first and most likely last LG i will ever own. I decided to give them a try because of the removable battery and sd card slot. I deffinetly will not make that mistake again!!!!!

Why would they admit anything, we all know the more you deny a problem the faster it goes away!!!

Of course! The classic "Let's pretend that this issue doesn't exist and people will soon forget about it" behavior.

It'll backfire on them eventually. Just you wait.

I keep telling myself to return my G4 to B&H before the 30 day window is up.
Problem is I absolutely love the phone.
Never had such a well rounded smartphone as this one.

Why oh why do I always pick the wrong one!
This bootloop deal is almost like waiting for the grim reaper to appear
:)

Am I good with my 602 model? Still says version 1.0 for hardware
