The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Took out the battery although I tossed that in the freezer too. Not sure how cold my freezer was exactly but I'd think if your freezer is any good then it should work...maybe keep the phone in there for a couple of hours or so

So you threw both of them in for a couple of hours? I read somewhere that it isn't good to keep the battery in the freezer for a couple of hours but I will try that. After all that, how long did your phone manage to stay on?

I don't know exactly....I put my laptop in the freezer alongside the phone to backup my data and also while I did a factory reset but after that I'll say 10-15 minutes before it bricked again.

I had more luck leaving the battery in. It takes some time too.

How many hours did you leave it in for? I put in my phone and battery together for about 45 mins and had no luck, I'll try leaving them both in for two hours tonight.

So my phone just started to have this problem. I would like to send this phone to LG for repair, but does anyone have any experience with sending in phones that was not bought in the normal store? I bought my off ebay used. I have used it for 4 months. Thanks!

Does anyone know if LG is replacing out of warranty phones? Both of mine have gotten this problem out of warranty.

Paranoid much? ... a few, and I mean a FEW, people have G4s that go bad. Not the rest of us who own the phone. Blown WAY out of proportion. Mass hysteria and [language]. The phone is fine. Don't believe everything you read.

I am on my 2nd G4 that has gone into boot loop. Few? I've had two.

How long did you leave it in for? I left my phone in for 2 hours and the battery for 20 mins and it still didn't get past the boot screen. Should I leave it in for longer?

At two hours, the phone would already be completely frozen. Leaving in any longer wouldn't do any good.

Bootloop woes hit my phone yesterday, out of the blue. The Freezer trick wouldn't work, either - it would get past the LG boot screen, then the red Verizon screen, to the "Android is starting, Optimizing X of X app", then it would shut off.

I'm a brand new member of this fookin club. S/n 508xxxxxxx. Reported to LG; to be returned. Having read (most of) this thread, I've lost all confidence in this product. If my returned unit works, I'm selling it on. Burnt once, never again. I'll report back.

It's weird though because when I put it in the freezer before for 30 mins it would work for about 5 mins, but now no matter how long I leave it in for it just won't turn on. I was actually told to leave it in for a couple of hours in order for it to stay on long enough to extract my data.

Does anyone know if the root cause has been found. Mine bricked last weekend. weekend while away at a wedding and I just got a replacement from AT&T. It is serial 506 and a refurb. Will I have the same issue or have I paid my dues once?

It would be very upsetting if LG just sent a replacement that was not "fixed" ...what kinda BS would that be?

Are refurbished units done by Lg or by a third party that Assurian uses? I think it's third party and would worry about a correct fix!

There's anecdotal evidence IMO that replacement/refurbished G4's have a higher chance of bootlooping than original G4. Assuming early models for both original and replacement - 505, 506, etc.

What do you think?

Tardus, that was my point also. If the return was for any other reason than a bootloop, what guarantee do we have that the hardware fix was applied; especially in the case of the earlier models you sited.

Unfortunately I think that answer is almost zero chance. When they refurbish phones they will fix the issue for which it was returned and run the phone through a series of tests to make sure it is functioning properly. Unfortunately with the boot loop issue, the phone operates completely normally...up until it doesn't and boot loops.

I had a bootlooped phone, then had Verizon send me a refurb, which bootlooped 4 weeks later. My girlfriend had a G4 that bootlooped. She got a refurb from AT&T & it bootlooped 2 weeks later. We are all not safe.
