The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Yeah, I've said this a couple of times. The fact that this happened with the G4 to me says the G5 is gonna be a great device. If I'm wrong, the GS8 might be my first Samsung device. It maybe a Note 6. Cause, you know, HTC won't be around. I'm joking of course. They just won't make phones.;)
Yep. I'm also hoping that they made sure that those modules won't be a point of failure as time goes on.

Still kinda intrigued by it, though. Yeah, I'm not that impressed, but maybe it'll change when I use it?

Oh I'm not interested in the mods at all. Just give me a G5 with the 820 and 4 gigs of ram.

I appear to be the lucky first on this thread to have a S/N 511 go down with this problem. Bought NYEve from UK Vodafone store SIM free, Been through the Matshmallow upgrade end Jan (needed a factory reset to cure battery life & lag issues)
It's been giving a few warning signs that all is not well - random reboots on doing stuff either app related or mostly logging onto a new wifi router

My pleasure. I, like many others of course, have been looking forward to this release cycle. When I read post like that or makes me kinda sad.

Spoke to the person in my Sprint store to follow up. He said that although he hadn't received the email confirmation yet, they were able to give me a S6 instead of a G4. However, he said that they wouldn't give me an S7 since it's an insurance replacement. But no harm in asking. I was able to reactive the S4 in the meantime, even if I had to cycle through three different system updates.

Oh man. IT'S ON S/N 511 TOO?! Guess I better start prepping my S/N 512 just in case.....

The phone itself is actually quite nice.

And as for going through LG and not TMO, it was based on TMO charging me for shipping plus tax, and the service rep telling me that in her experience users sending their phones by themselves got a faster turnaround time. Maybe, just maybe she was told by TMO to ask customers that so they cannot be responsible for lost or damaged units while in transit? My G4 is a US version BTW.

How many TMO reps did you speak to ? I wouldn't take that BS - asking to pay extra for fast shipping when the phone clearly has some manufacturing issues. It is important to keep contacting TMO until you find a rep that will help you, and escalate the situation to a manager after three tries or so. Threaten - and be prepared to leave TMO. We should be rewarded not punished for being early adopters of the phone.

My 505 is fine for now. And my guess is if it has lasted this long (since July) it won't go bad. But if the bootloop issue happens, even after the warranty period expires, I would demand a replacement.

Random reboots are possibly not the same issue. This issue happens with NO warning whatsoever. Phone just dies and won't boot up again. Happened to mine while it was sitting in my pocket. Everything was fine before that.

There was only one customer service representative in the store at the moment, and the other employees were just sellers. I had paid for sending my S4 for warranty service so this was not new to me. LG did offer free FedEx shipping.

I will surely escalate things if I get my phone back with the problem. Don't want to leave TMO for this though!

Agreed. My g4 died on a Friday. No replacement was offered. Got my referb the following Tuesday. My wife's G4 died (also on a Friday) and she raised hell. Again, no replacement/temp. phone was offered. She got hers the following Monday. You need to call Tmo, the people in the stores don't really care, from my experience.

Like @gendo667 said, skip the stores and just call TMO.

What are the serial #'s of the phones? Two for two bad... sorry to hear about this.

They were both 505's purchased on the day of release. Received 505's as referbs. She couldn't wait to get rid of her M8. Her first experience with LG too. Both died a couple of months apart.

I got mine from the local TMO corporate store the first day they had it in stock. I'm keeping everything backed up :p

Paranoid much? ... a few, and I mean a FEW, people have G4s that go bad. Not the rest of us who own the phone. Blown WAY out of proportion. Mass hysteria and [language] The phone is fine. Don't believe everything you read.

My husband and I got G4 phones June 2015 on the same day. 2 weeks ago mine died. Today his died. They are under warranty until June so we are getting replacements but it is very suspicious that this problem occurred only 2 weeks apart for 2 phones bought at same time.

It's actually the same with my old 505. It randomly rebooted multiple times until it finally died.

My good luck continues! My spare Galaxy S2 died, and now I'm using retro tech: my old Blackberry Bold 9700. Patience is wearing thin at this point...

My 507 bricked tonight. I backed it up several weeks, but I'm trying the freezer trick to see if I can get a newer backup. Then I guess it's on to Sprint tomorrow. Sigh....

Scary stuff, especially when it was working fine not too long ago.

A small loan of a broken G4
