The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

If I can get one from Sprint, I may go on that direction. I previously had the M7 and M8, and was mostly satisfied with them.
Have you considered the Moto X PE (or Style for carrier models)?

I wouldn't go with one from Sprint if you choose to get the Moto X, really.

I've joined the boot loop crowd. Surfing Facebook this morning, and then the phone locked up and after a few seconds rebooted. That's all she wrote. Off to the Verizon store I go after work.SN: 505

This thread just keeps going, boot loop after boot loop. Seems to be picking up steam, again, as of late. I've had the G5 for a little more than a week now. I gotta good build and the phone performs brilliantly, it's very fast. Gotta say though, if this one takes a dive like my G4, I'll be done with LG for a good minute. I'd hate to see that happen, I'm loving this phone.

Received the following Email from LG this afternoon.
"Thank you so much for contacting us regarding your recent repair.
I have had a look into this for you and can confirm that we recieved your handset on the 4th of April, the repair was completed on the 8th of April.
The issue was caused by a faulty mainboard which has now been replaced and the handset has passed the final checks.
I am now sad to inform you that there has been a delay in sending handsets back to customers. The repair centre are catching up quickly but we have to advise that it may take up to 14 working days from the date of completion which was the 8Th April.
I do not think it will take this long as they are currently working on handsets completed on the first few days in April but I have to advise what I have been told to.
I can only apologise for this delay but please be assured we are working on getting your handset back to you as quick as possible."

Bricked on Saturday. It managed to work for about a day after the update. Verizon was very helpful and the lady I talked to actually had the same thing happen to her with her G4. We chatted for a bit about how much bull**** it is. It was refreshing. I'm setting up my new phone now and guess what just popped up on the screen? ... hahahaha NO. Sorry update. Burn me once shame on you. Burn me twice... not gonna happen.

Until it decides to install itself overnight without getting your approval first.

What? S problem with shipping it back?

What repair center did it go to?

My lg g4 bricked yesterday took it to sprint store today, they said they will be filing insurance claim on lg.

Said it would take 2 to 5 business day to get new phone.

phone was stuck in rebooting cycle. And it started just by laying on desk, while i was playing on computer. Rip no phone for 5 days.

This thread keeps showing up at the top of the LG G4 forum. It's really depressing.

Very depressing. The only seemingly good side is that they know the issue and will repair it under warranty. I still think they should be more proactive and contact owners of affected devices so that the issue can be resolved before it strikes and causes you to lose data or have to be without a phone while it is being repaired.

Honestly, I'll never understand why carriers do not have "backup devices" available for "rent" for situations like these. They have got to have a lot of refurbished smart phones that they have to do something with (recycling, etc) that they could provide to customers who have to be without phones for a period of time.

Courier was taking phone to Milton Keynes , so only about 30 miles from where I live in the Uk. I can only guess the actual repair is carried out elsewhere or there are many in the queue ?

OK, here in the US we have to send them to Fort Worth, TX. They received my wife's phone yesterday and had it diagnosed, repaired and shipped back out by this morning. I think one day turn around is pretty good, just wish they wouldn't used ground shipping that takes 4 days.

That would explain this then
LG G4 owners launch petition to address bootloop issue

For the past couple of months, various LG G4 owners around the globe have been complaining about a mysterious bootloop problem affecting the device. For no apparent reason, the LG G4 will randomly reboot and get stuck in a bootloop with no apparent resolution. A petition has now been formed to get LG to officially address the issue.

The petition has been created as a means to force LG into not only acknowledging the problem, but also to institute a free replacement scheme for all affected models of the G4. According to the petition’s creator, Santiago Archila, the issue potentially affects all G4s, not just specific carrier-branded or regional models. According to Archila, LG’s response thus far has been unacceptable.

Complaints have been floating around the internet since September, 2015 – and some carriers have even acknowledged the problem as a “known issue” – but LG has reportedly not handled the issue in a consistent way. Some users have had their device replaced while others have been told their model number isn’t eligible for repair or replacement. If you scour YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and various Android forums like XDA Developers, you can find plenty of evidence of the problem, including multiple videos showing it in effect. The problem certainly seems to be widespread enough that an official investigation and statement from LG is warranted. We’ve reached out to LG for comment and will update this story with any response.

When the problem was initially flagged, it was thought the issue only affected early model G4 units (ie those built before October 2015) and was a hardware problem related to the motherboard on specific variants. But the claims of random bootloops have persisted, with users on all carriers and in all regions being affected with no simple solution.

More at the link above.

Interesting to note how there's almost 1,000 signatures already for something that's "Mass hysteria" "Blown WAY out of proportion" and "bull***" and the petition is still only in its early days.

Happen to me today. Only 3 mos old in great condition. Out of nowhere **** the bed to a blank pixelated pink screen. Its the steel blue phone from Best Buy. It cleary seems to be a hardware issue and by reading this thread, not looking forward to talking to LG about it tomorrow. I certainly hope they don't try giving me a referb!! I'd be totally done with anything LG and disgusted. 😡

All the manufacturers give refurbs for warranty. If you don't want that, then your only other option is to have them repair yours, but that takes longer.

Now been 14 days since my LG G4 was taken away for repair following a Boot loop death.

Purchased a Motorola G (2015 - 16gb) two days ago as fed up being phone less. The Motorola cost me about a third of the amount I paid for the LG G4 8 months ago. I am struggling to justify why the LG G4 cost so much. The Motorola G is way better than I expected. Sure, on paper the specs of the Motorola G are no match for the LG, but in practice the G does everything for which I use a smartphone (primarily Runkeeper, Whatsapp, Pocketcasts) equally as well as the LG G4. Battery life seems, possibly slightly better. I use Nova Launcher for the desktop, so little difference there. The settings and especially the notifications work better on the Motorola G and bluetooth seems more stable, especially in regards to switching seamlessly between BT devices - such as headphones to car stereo. Even the screen where I expected most compromise on the Motorola is perfectly clear to my eyes. Responsiveness seems equally fluid on both phones, I never had any problems with stuttering on the LG G4.

When the LG G4 finally returns I am considering selling it and keeping the Motorola. Not an outcome i expected

What happens if you buy on EBay....will they replace ?
Is it just affecting a certain series?
