The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

At this point, I have not idea why people own LG phones. Their build quality is obvious in this thread.

For me it's two reasons. One, they have the best camera if you like to shoot manual mode. Two, they're about the only ones keeping the SD card, LCD screen, IR blaster, AND removable batteries.

I understand that and I like all these features but unfortunately they have a problem that they have not be able to solve yet when they built their phones. The bootloop issue has been around since the LG G2 to the LG V10. I have not hear yet any issue with the V20.

My s/n 505 phone of over a year just looped itself this morning. Now I have to wait for my replacement to arrive. I guess I won't be heading home from my family's house until it gets here.

I'm of the belief that phones in general are less and less durable and that any new release risks some sort of wide spread issue. So pick your poison I guess.

I agree 100%. There is no reason that phones (from any manufacturer) should not last until you (the consumer) decide to buy a new phone. They should last for years. I have never had a PC or laptop quit working; I replaced only because I wanted to (faster, more RAM or memory, etc.).
Apple has even joined the crowd of manufactures that produce inferior products.

Not at the same level of LG... I mean look at Motorola or Lenovo smartphones, or even Sony. You don't hear that their devices have a bootloop issue that not only with one model but every model they produce? All LG phones have some kind of issue with the bootloop. LG is just irresponsible and the lack of an apology to their customers is just too much to even consider that brand again.

I am having the boot loop issue out of nowhere on the h815 S/N 507. It is 13 months old. Warranty was rejected due to "boot-loader unlocked".

And I was thinking about buying a 6k $ LG OLED TV screen. Good thing I made that experience before buying the TV screen :D. Kind of shortsighted to reject stuff like that.

Does anyone have a good alternative, where I don't have to expect my mobile to die like that? My 4 year old Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still running like a charm.

Well i joined the club, went to bed with a working phone and woke up with a paper weight, wont charge or turn on. 10 months old LG4. Had to dig out the old LG G until my new phone comes in.

I would force the issue, hit them on Twitter. Unlocking the boot loader would not cause a physical connection failure.

They are fixing my sister's G4 that is out of warranty.

I have a 505 S/N ( May 2015) and the Bootloop just happened to mine after running Cellmapper & Google Maps Navagation for a long trip that keeps the phone hot. I shipped it off to LG that should be there by Friday. I will post my results.

BTW, other than Samsung I consider LG as the 2nd best phone Mfg at 1/3 the price of Samsung. BTW, I had three Apple iPhones break without being dropped or got wet in one year. Anyone remember Antennagate with a i4? Then there is the Samsung Note 7 fire issue... So it can happen to anyone. Now I am using my 2013 Nexus 5 that was manufactured by LG and it still works. Only reason I got the G4 was to add T-Mobile Band 12.

After it happened to me I opted for a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus just before the G4 ran out of warranty. Better safe than sorry I guess, plus the T-Mobile offer I got was pretty good.

Mine bricked in September. 508. Tmobile refused to cover it for warranty as the moisture indicator had turned red... It's not water damaged and they said it can be activated just by being in a steamy bathroom... I'm assuming that lg will Aldo void the warranty because of the red sticker. I had a protection plan and have the option to pay $175 for a refurbished phone that might do the same thing...I refuse.
I'm not currently able to get an upgrade. I have been using my old alcatel one touch since my g4 died and it is truly awful...
I don't know what I'm going to do because this alcatel is... not it. I also have a feeling it's on its last leg...

My G4 has serial #506 (Manufacture date 6/2016), purchased 8/2015 and bootloop started two weeks ago. I sent it to LG Repair Center and they just sent me an email asking for $72 to fix. I'm not happy at all, this is a known problem and they should recall all of the G4's or at least repair the defected phones for free.
Is there any one in the LG's upper management I can contact by phone or email?

I don't have an answer for you, but am curious to see how you make out with it. If they are charging now, I would have to upgrade soon, as I wouldn't pay for their mistake.

I think you're out of the standard warranty if you purchased the phone on 8/2015. Standard warranty is only for one year. After that you are basically in you own.

My daughter's phone had the same issue.

It was out of warranty so I worked on it myself.

I tried freezing it, and after getting it cold it would work for about 5 mins.

I watched a couple of youtube videos where someone took the chip off and put it back on hot, which essentially re-soldered the connections. This was a little too much for me to undertake.

Not having anything else to lose I decided to take the motherboard out, take off both heat shields, and put it in the oven at 200F for about 45 minutes. The hope was that the low heat would be enough to let the solder expand and reconnect without frying the components. This was a last ditch effort - I was going to throw the phone away if this didn't work.

We put the phone back together and its been working for hours.

Not saying this will work for everyone, but it has so far for us.

Definitely don't put the entire phone in the oven...just the motherboard. Make sure the heat shields are removed. Good luck.
