Root alone without ROMs can let you change various things, status bar, run apps that require root, and install apks that perhaps need root access.
Yes I'm holding off for now on ROMs as its early days.
But developers put valuable time into improving upon Manufacturers skins or removing them and going stock, I have now sold my Note 3 but I had an S5 port and the battery life was incredible, so ROMs can improve upon quite a lot of things, but best to wait until there are stable releases.
This is just my basic input and others can contribute further

What's the benefits of rooting at this point in time (without ROMs to Flash?).
Also what the benefit to Flashing a ROM on it? What if I want Stock Android L, will I receive OTA updates then? I'm guessing I wouldn't meaning I would need to flash every update then correct?
I'm just excited for pure Android L, I think that's my problem.![]()
