What's the benefits of rooting at this point in time (without ROMs to Flash?).

Also what the benefit to Flashing a ROM on it? What if I want Stock Android L, will I receive OTA updates then? I'm guessing I wouldn't meaning I would need to flash every update then correct?

I'm just excited for pure Android L, I think that's my problem.

Root alone without ROMs can let you change various things, status bar, run apps that require root, and install apks that perhaps need root access.

Yes I'm holding off for now on ROMs as its early days.

But developers put valuable time into improving upon Manufacturers skins or removing them and going stock, I have now sold my Note 3 but I had an S5 port and the battery life was incredible, so ROMs can improve upon quite a lot of things, but best to wait until there are stable releases.

This is just my basic input and others can contribute further

Thanks for the info, is it just as easy to unroot?

If you are looking to root your new G3 then look no further than towelroot, it is as easy as downloading the apk and hitting the make it rain and within seconds you have root.

I found 3 apps that do not work so far that I use very regularly: ESPN Scorecenter, Amazon Mobile and Open Table. I went out and found the apks and sideloaded them. I am guessing it has to do with the DPI of the screen and how the devs coded. They all work perfectly but they are showing as not compatible. It will be updated soon I am sure. Even so, you can go into the apps in Play and send an email to the devs for this support as I did and hopefully it will get updated sooner.

i downloaded the amazon app through amazon and the browser, not google play. google free is just that. no google on my device. did not sign in to a google account from start up,root through towelroot, disabled all google apps etc. there is nothing i require from google.

Did you enable ART on your phone? If so then possible the app not compatible with ART. I think my daughter tried to install Angry Birds the other day on the Nexus 4 I gave her and it wasnt compatible due to me enabling ART on it.

Seriously that is very odd, I get a message saying its not compatible with my device grrr.

No tried both dalvik and art and no joy, found the Apk so I side loaded it, all is good again

What is your top 5 features?

Mine are...

1)The build & Design

2)The laser autofocus camera (the digital zoom is decent also)

3)Knock Code.

4)For me personally the Ui is decent.

5)Guest Mode is handy.

I'm intrigued you didn't mention the one main thing that's supposed to set it aside from almost all others, the display...unless you included that in 1). I shall be looking at mine closer in due course.

I just wanted to thank you for your positive comments on the G3....helped me decide to buy and no regrets so far. You were right, it's a device to enjoy using. There are threads with members twittering nervously about this and that, perhaps it's not a good buy after all, perhaps the battery this and the signal that etc., and I was one of those twitterers (although not to deny some users may have problems). Now that I own, I find all that has fallen away and like you can just get on with enjoying a wonderful new phone.

Cheers for the feedback and glad I could help, and that you enjoy using what is a very nice smartphone whew, for a second there I though a lawsuit may be coming my way lol

But yeah constructive criticism is fine, but to be all out negative is not good, if the phone isn't for you that is fine but to try and put others off by conjuring up this that and the other you just come off stupid lol

I find that yes it has that bit of lag initially when entering the app drawer but it lasts a mere second and settles and positive I'm sure an update will fix, Signal has been great, battery has settled nicely, camera is great, fast focus wow, and design is sublime.

I'm sure others niggles will settle and if they don't there are plenty of other smart phones to choose from.

But me is liking the G3 hmmm quite a lot actually lol
