The LG G3 has arrived :-)

Re: Root Modifications

Uninstall everything Google and everything else that I do not require.

Re: Root Modifications

When I said, If that's not taking it off topic, I didn't mean it sarcastically although it reads like that. I'm getting paranoid.

It's time I had a go at rooting, I imagine the things you could do and the freedom to configure your phone just how you want it must be fascinating stuff. For some time I've been thinking of buying a used device and doing it with that and I think that would be the best way for the time being considering I'd be a novice.

I hope I'm not taking the thread off topic. D'OH!

If you have any questions feel free to send me a pm. Been rooting since.... Forever ago haha

Re: Root Modifications

Nice thread Duncan :)

Tweakbox tweaks
Opens more options for Tasker
Allows use of Titanium Backup, Root Explorer and other "root only apps"
Change fonts
Freeze apps that the stock UI will not allow
Open access to everything on SD card
Nandroid backups
......and some that Duncan already mentioned.

Re: Root Modifications

Forgot to mention, I set up my home button so when I double tap I get the power off menu with:
Power off
Power off and restart (which gives option for Reboot, Hot Boot, Recovery and Download).
Airplane Mode
So cool, rarely if ever touch the back button anymore.

Cheers my logic in it was to see if there is something that someone else has done ERM that you may not have thought of but could be of benefit :-)

Along these lines.....

Speaking of which double tap the home button, is that an option in G3 tweakbox?

Yes, Theme Tweaks/Navigation Bar/scroll down to Action on Home Double tap.....

Good stuff D.

Re: Root Modifications

Only things I've done (or at least that I can remember doing):

-Unlocked full access to SD Card.
-Cleaned up Status Bar (hid NFC/Location/Volume icon, aligned clock left, hid carrier name)
-Switched to circle battery icon w/ percentage in the middle
-Hid Notification Title Bar
-Changed Carrier name on Notifications Panel (bottom bar when you slide the notifications down) to say "Notifications" instead
-Adjusted height of Navigation Bar when in horizontal position
-Unlocked all weather effects
-Added record button to call screen
-Cleaned up Lock Screen (Hid Swipe String, Hid Knock Code Brackets, Hid Knock Code String, Hid Pattern String, Hid Carrier Text)
-Hid Input Switcher Notification
-Hid Battery Full Notification
-Hid Slow Charging Notification
-Hid Quiet mode Schedule notification
-Hid Airplane Mode popup
-Disabled Safety Headset Volume
-Enabled skipping tracks with volume keys
-Increased Volume Steps to 30
-Enabled additional "Reboot" options
-Set "Call History" as default tab
-Disabled ads in YouTube
-Tapping the clock in the Status Bar launches my clock app

(One nice thing is, the only place my phone says AT&T now, I'm pretty sure, is when I boot the phone. I'm even using the Quick Circle PMA case so the phone doesn't even say AT&T on it anywhere physically.)

I think that's it.

Re: Root Modifications

Not rooting alone, but if you install xposed framework & G3 tweakbox this will open up that option :-)

And to add to what Duncan1982 has said, recording calls is actually a built in function for the G3, from my understanding, that was ripped out by the US Carriers. Rooting, Xposed, and Tweaksbox just allow you to restore the functionality.

Re: Root Modifications

I have a whole list of tweaks like Duncan that I don't have the time to list right now. A lot are similar but one that wasn't listed was double-tap nav bar to sleep. This is one of my favorite changes in G3TweaksBox.

I did the same thing (basically) as you, adding a power menu shortcut, while also expanding the power menu. Back buttons are almost never used now.

Re: Root Modifications

I like the thought of stripping everything out of a phone so you've just got a lump of hardware and adding only what you want bit by bit. What's the best ROM for a minimalist approach, with only a few apps apart from the essential ones?

Roms are scarce at the moment and quite tricky & a bit risky. Some that are more experienced (not me) would dive in. Rooting and running a few safe modules would be your best bet if you would like to try and its low risk mate :-)

Re: Root Modifications

So for those who like to root what is your modifications?

Mine are in no particular order...

1)Circle battery icon with percentage.

2)Centre Clock

3) Android L boot&shutdown animations

4)DPI set to 570

5)Performance tweaks through tweakbox

6)HTC Enhanced toggles

7)Blurred Notification area

8)App opps starter disabled fb permissions.

9)Volume boost & vibe control.

10)More options in power bar... shortcut to Screenshot and torch.

I'm sure there are one or two more..

For me this makes the G3 a little bit more personal and hence why I like to root..

I'm interested in #5, what "performance tweaks"? I love tweaksbox but I only saw cosmetic changes. May I ask what performance improvements you are referring to?

Re: Root Modifications

So I took the plunge and rooted this evening and downloaded tweaksbox. Do I need exposed framework for tweaksbox to make any changes?

Re: Root Modifications

Step one install xposed
Step two install gravity box
Step three install tweakbox
Step four cannibalize your phone and enjoy

Re: Root Modifications

Is exposed in play store? What's gravity box? Did I screw up by going out of turn?? This isn't good.
